Privatisation's Better Customer Service in Practice

Before electricity privatisation's highest prices in the world there was no reason to be contacted so this never happened.

Recently I changed parasites electricity provider.

The previous provider woke me up by calling at 8:30AM but I didn't answer.

They then sent me an email saying they called me because they noticed that another provider "won" my "site" and they wanted to know if I was moving house.

Then they requested that I call them to let them know.

Fair to say that after they rang you got out of the wrong side of the bed.

From OP's posts and comments, there's no other side to their bed.

A call to the United Nations Human Rights department is required.

The call was out of line and absolutely unnecessary. Diji1 is always woke.

    Are you OK?

    woke me at 8:30am

Shock horror, a greens supporter wasn't already up or at work.

Also, people in WA (non privatised) pay more for electricity than I do in Queensland, and get a rubbish solar feed in.

Why don't you set up a parasite company and milk the easy money?

seriously, you'll draw the longest bow to try and find any reason to complain about privatisation and the government, but even this one seems out there

    highest prices in the world

The reason for that is two-fold - 1) closing down cheap coal-based sources of power and 2) spending billions on subsidies for inefficient and uncompetitive renewable energy. This is being pushed by vested interests and useful idiots.

Since you normally advocate for these causes, I'm struggling to see why you are complaining about high electricity prices.

There's already been an ACCC report on this.

"“The main reason customers’ electricity bills have gone up is due to higher network costs, a fact which is not widely recognised. To a lesser extent, increasing green costs and retailer costs also contributed,” Sims said.

Critics of so-called “gold-plating” of the network have long pointed to the $45 billion investment on the “poles and wires” since 2010 as a key factor in soaring power prices.

The Australian Energy Regulator (AER) approved a $45 billion spend on infrastructure in 2010 amid warnings from energy companies that demand was about to spike and blackouts would occur as a result. But instead demand for power fell and consumers were left footing the bill for a “gold-plated” network one expert compared to investing $45 billion in fax technology as the internet era began."

This retrospective statement was made by ACCC in regards to the 2010-2017 period, before the closures of some of our biggest coal generators (especially in Victoria).

In regards to the "gold plating" of the distribution networks, that's definitely a historical factor and was I one of it's critics for years. However, I think, currently, there are other factors that play a bigger role. The prices are increasing at a high rate because the supply has been reduced, and the energy that is in the supply has higher generation costs, even before the market premiums are applied.

        • We're now at the same risk of gold plating roads.
