  • Good deal! Considering purchase.

  • Got one!

What happens if it run out of battery? Can you still get your keys back? (ie the locking mechanism independent of the battery power?)

  • Do you leave this on the outside of your house?

    • +2

well inside wouldnt be very helpful :).

yeah, its put outside somewhere…. more often than not somewhere hidden (like meterbox). its just a little extra security than leaving keys open and under a rock or something. every little bit of deterant is better than nothing.

  • tempted but not much use of me actually.(would be better if can hold more keys)

  • +2

junglejumble - just wanted to double check that the actual lock is mechanical, and the LCD is purely for the timestamp function (ie: if the battery dies it will not affect the lock itself, and the device can be used without the LCD / timestamp)?

  • +1

Hi Kirt, The keypad is mechanical so no issues. Please refer to set up guide -
Section III Setting the Combination http://utcfssecurityproducts.com/ProductsAndServices/Site%20…

Battery used for LCD is Lithium CR2032(included), under normal conditions these batteries last years.

    • Sweet thanks ;)

Couldn't someone just smash it with a hammer?

    • +2

It would be harder to smash the key safe than to smash a window, so if they really wanted to get in they wouldn't bother breaking into the keysafe.

      • Agree, Hammer wouldn't break this device anyways. Maybe an angle grinder? Examples

Most people don't walk around with bolt cutters, diamond cutters, angle grinders, sledge hammers, lock pick kits etc etc.

        • I believe it would be easier to rip the thing off the wall, bring it home, then use your bolt cutters, diamond cutters, angle grinders, sledge hammers, lock pick kits etc etc. :P

hide it like you would loose keys, dont mount it on front door to tempt just anyone seeing it.

treat it like a safe…. half the battle is hiding the sucker, what cant be seen cant be stolen.

        • I agree, most wouldn't. But the people willing to break it would.

        • Lock pick kits arent that big.. a pro only needs two tools (pick and tension wrench), a size of each would not exceed the size of a key, but yes, usually the average joe doesnt go on a stroll with a sledgehammer or an angle grinder haha
P.s. a lock picking set is useless against these things… nothing to pick :p,dunno how to figure the combo on these yet (maybe youtube will help lolol)
A good price on a simple and effective product though.

They could just break your window or kick your door.

Things like these are for convenience, not rock-solid security. You could use it to store the key for the supplies cupboard at the office, the key for the medicine cabinet at home, that sorta stuff. If someone has to physically destroy something or leave evidence to steal, they may be less likely to steal.

e.g. there's a much higher chance of you losing your phone if you left it on top of your car compared to leaving it on your dashboard in plain sight. Anyone could very easily smash your window and grab it, but it leaves evidence and attracts attention.

      • +1

just makes it than much harder for people to get in. loose keys are very tempting for a novice crim, but if they actually need to break in and make noise, maybe it might deter someone. for $20 it's worth it if you reguarly leave your keys for others.

        • Yes that right, it's another deterrent. The applications for this device are wide ranging and not just for home. Lot's of resorts, holiday rentals, caravan parks etc use this for easy access and the ability to monitor entry times etc by employees for house keeping etc. As eug also pointed out will also suit business applications for access of key under entry time monitoring as well.

  • couldn't they use this thing to break a window?

    • you're meant to screw it to your wall…

    • +7

Great idea! First dislodge from wall with sledge hammer then throw through window.

I still think my fake rock works better.

  • Not a good deal, compared with your previous one :)

    • 5 cents, really?

      • +1

the previous one is better and can hold 2 keys, not 1.

        • The photo for this one shows 2 keys.
Ironically, the photo for the previous one shows 1 key.

Why is the same(?) product also listed for $29?
    http://junglejumble.com.au/ge-accesspoint-keysafe.html

    • No LCD Display on that one.

  • Just get a finger lock like me :) Dont need the keys any more hehe

    • Hi All, Both these key safes will hold 2 standard size keys but only 1 if you want in connected to the base for one handed opening convenience :)
