Bedroom Fairy Lights - power options

Am interested in putting fairy lights in the bedroom for that warm feeling.

eg something like this:

However most led strands i see are battery powered. Does anyone know where to get ones that plug into a powerpoint? Or a retail store which has a variety of selections.

    • They are mainly outdoors use. I’m after smaller indoors ones

      • They're fairy lights, the same as your pic…

        • Ok. I thought the ones I was after were those tiny little ones on the thin strand of wire.

Anyways, this is why I wanted to check them out in a physical store, so I can compare the different types. Guess it’s time to get some snags then!

  • Bunnings as pjetson said. Or eBay. That said, this is literally the worst time of the year to buy it.

The best time would be Dec 26th of any year.

Price, yes bad time. Availability, great time! Target/kmart/big w don't normally stock them except this time of year.

      As always, compare prices

I reckon everyone will still have plenty of stock on Dec 26th. If OP can wait, they'll probably be at least 50% off.

In my experience, there is not plenty of stock by even mid December. Having gone through the Christmas lights thing for a few years I only start the process 1st December. By then you can get plenty of items, a couple of weeks later, there is not the range available. After Christmas there isn’t much left, but what is left is often reduced price as the shops clear their remaining stock.

          • @Euphemistic: Yeah i would agree with this - in my experience they start going on sale about a week or so before christmas, and then theres scraps left normally just after.

          • @Euphemistic: Myers had quite a few on discount a couple of years ago. I would still wait until they start discounting them, unless you find the perfect set.

            • @try2bhelpful: I know this is ozbargain and I should probably hand in my card for this, but a $20 set of lights discounted might save $10, but you might need to wait for next season if they don’t have them during the sale period.

Just to be clear, we are talking about stock-standard fairy lights like the OP was talking about and not the fancier Christmas lights like nets and icicles etc, right?

OK, maybe it's just some stores that overstock sometimes. The last time I paid attention to fairy lights was 2015. Looking at the photos I took, the Bunnings I was at was still selling them on January 17th. 300 LEDs for $13.50, 100 LEDs for $6, and 200 LEDs for an unknown price.

  • Agree this is a great time for plenty of range. There is a gazillion different types available for the Christmas market.

Just don’t leave it til mid December when the range dries up. Waiting for post Christmas sales could leave you without what you want.

  • Can i just confirm, they will be indoors, so they dont need to be bright. Most of the suggestions are for the outdoors ones, which i assume will be way too bright for indoors use? Unless they have a brightness control, which some appear to have. The bluetooth iphone app ones look pretty nifty too, so many options!

Ill check out bunnings and kmart. I think im more after something smaller and dimmer like this however:

They’ll probably be the same brightness unless dimmable. Outdoor just means water resistant.

Make sure you get ‘warm white’ colour.

Why don't you get those? They look like just what you're after.
Get the USB-powered one so you can use a phone charger.

You can get them locally from eBay too.

      • I just found them. Didnt think to google ali express! they really do have everything on their website. Im just concerned about quality, i dont want to buy cheap lighting that may catch fire…

      • That eBay link says buy 3 get one free. So a good deal to be had if you're going to use one set for the Xmas tree and gift another to someone.

Was wandering in Aldi at Moorabbin yesterday and they had a whole bunch of fairy lights on display. Happy to put up pictures if you want them.

    • Ah cool thanks for that, theres an aldi around the corner from me, ill go have a look. im not really an aldi shopper. i just dont "get it".

      • Me neither, the place looks like the worst sort of reject shop.. The one in Moorabbin wasn’t helped by having compost that smelt, strongly, of blood and bone. I was at the DFO and decided to wander into the Aldi out there and remembered your post.
