Its nice tv and a relatively good brand
TCL is pretty well known. And I’m not saying this specific brand or TV will have the problem, but many of the cheaper brands have crappy software on them. Slow to change channel, input etc. but if you use another unit to do DTV or streaming (Fetch box or other PVR) then you would be fine regardless of the software. I’d jump at this if we were in the market for a TV.
100% agree. We got a Hisense 'smart' tv maybe 3 years ago. Splashed out and got a pretty big one for like $800/900 and it's the slowest thing ever. Takes a few minutes to even display a picture and another few minutes to be able to use the controller. We get burnt and id be really hesitant to get a cheaper brand again. We used an android box for ages which was ok but the initial start up process was horrible. Use Chromecast now and it's pretty good.
Really nice image, sounds not great but not the worst (would rec a soundbar), smart features work well- my biggest complaint is a bit of a slow power on (15-20 seconds)
The beauty of Android TV is you can put it to sleep instead of off, so you avoid the delay and it comes on very quickly.
Turn it on and do some push ups instead!
I've recently bought TCL P8M 43" for a small room and it's fantastic for price I paid.

I have the 50"version in the bedroom and am very impressed. The setup process, the Android apps, all the catchup tv,h265 playback, Chromecast built in, Android assistant with microphone in the remote all work brilliantly. I was not a fan of smart TVs before this one (preferring an external smart box), but Android tv seems spot on to me. My only gripe is some backlight non uniformity noticeable in some situations.
Isn't 165cm (diagonal) huge for today's individualistic watching?

Yeah set my parents' up today. Looks amazing for the money, and speakers are good enough to where they don't need a soundbar, unlike my Kogan.

My current telly is a 2010's 50" Panasonic Viera (NEVER AGAIN! all 'apps' were stopped supported/updated)

Really want to move to 65 and 75" UHD but the missus said our current TV is fine. Can't trump her logic so far.I have my 55 2011 Panasonic plasma and a near new 65 4k Hisense. I'd swap the hisense for another old Panasonic in a heartbeat. Wish I could go back in time and stock up on 65" VT Panasonic's.
@brendanm: I have a 55" VT also, had it for 3 years at least, I was probably the last person to get one. Mine was a display that had some screen burn in, but you only notice it playing video games, watching tv/movies it's unnoticeable. I watch these posts and the blood pressure goes up, but I still haven't seen a tv that objectively looks better. I run a Vodafone tv now, mainly because the tv won't decode some streams coming from my share, but apart from that I still use the built in iview, SBS on demand and youtube apps because it's simpler.
I'm still using my TH-50PX70A Pana plasma from 2006 or so. One of the last Made in Japan panels. Still works. Does have great blacks.
Tuner is rubbish though and it occasionally has a bug where it won't change channels and needs a reboot. Time to upgrade me thinks! It's also a power hog - around ~450w+

Went and had a look at the 75" in store (looked pretty). Best price they could do was $1120 or $1155 delivered (before cashback). One in stock but couldn't deliver today, so I just bought on eBay for $1100 delivered.

Yeah, sadly, as even though I'm only 8 minutes from a store, it's a "rural" post code on eBay. It beat trying to fit in on my ute and risk a disaster.

@impoze: eBay said no local stock for me too, even though I confirmed with the store there is one in stock. I weighed up the risk vs reward (I could be watching it right now) and decided they can be liable to any delivery damage instead of me.
Good call better get the professionals to do it than risk the whole basket trying to save on an egg.
They rang me not 20 minutes after ordering to organise delivery, so I must be getting the one they had in stock, delivered whenever I want from Monday, for cheaper than in store. The guy did say that the eBay discount is subsidised by eBay so the price he was offering was basically the same as they would make from the sale on eBay, but that made it more expensive for me. Win win I guess.
Has anyone noticed that the 55P8M & 65P8M aren't included in the TCL Claim promotion. I just checked before I bought the 65" and it's not listed.

Buyer beware TCL don't reply to my emails or respond to phone calls. I've been 6 months trying to get a response from TCL for dead pixels after 2 months and they just go quiet every time.
what's the difference between 65P8M and 65P8S?
i was really keen to buy a P8M a few weeks ago, i checked it out in JB and have to say that the models with Clear Motion Rate 100 have really terrible judder. you could noticeably see jolting frames even on slowly moving smooth panoramic panning scenes, and the same scenes looked butter smooth on every other TV (including lower model hisense with a smooth motion rate 100). everything else about the P8M i thought was great though, but the bad judder completely wrecked this TV for me.
The 65X7 on the other hand blew me away, it looked amazing in motion, pretty much as good as Samsung qleds. Also I haven't seen the 75P8M and 85P8M which both have Clear Motion Rate 200 but i suspect they may be great and not have the judder.

I will looking at a 75 or 85 inch 4k tv in a couple more years (would love a projector but the room isn't big enough for that)
I just went to the local GG and they price matched the Ebay price for the 55 inch. The sales guy couldn't believe it.
I have now finished setting it up and i'm amazed by the picture quality and features that Android TV has. Coming from an old 50 inch Samsung Plasma, the TCL blows it out of the water. Very happy.hows the speed of the tv?

cheap tvs in the past have issues with this/as the processors were slow asIt's about 7 seconds from pushing the button until you are in the main menu, certainly not a problem at all.

When I picked it up, box had a sticker saying “bonus remote inside” and indeed it was, so it’s possibly included in all?
Haven’t used it yet. Kinda weird having 2 remotes, that small bonus one doesn’t have a mute button which kills it for me and I haven’t signed into any of the google crap yet to test out the voice stuff.cool, mine is being delivered today so will check.
The small remote is also an air mouse style

I’ll have to check again. The remote I got was different to the above linked one - it was all black, no silver.
It’s very similar to the full size tv remote, didn’t pay too much attention to be honest as not planning on using the google features, possibly it’s not actually the voice remote?
@Cucumber123: just got mine and yeah it is a bonus voice remote but it's not the RC602S on their website but the RC802V.

TV arrived this morning and I just set it up. Looking good. Was pretty happy… until I went into the settings to add my Google account and saw that it was already signed in with someone else's account. When I Google the email address, it shows up as someone else who lives in the same area (I know this because there is a local business website with their email address on it). The settings page says the account was last synced on September 5. Also, on reflection, the box was taped in a fairly non-professional manner, and both remotes already had the batteries in them.
I have clearly received a TV that is not brand new and hasn't even been factory reset. Not happy. I have contacted the person who is signed in to see why they returned the TV and when. Hopefully they reply, then I'll contact the Good Guys to express my dissatisfaction at receiving either refurbished or second hand goods.sorry to hear, at least you spotted it. Not smart for the previous owner to leave it logged in.
The previous owner replied and said he set it up, signed in, then they decided that night that it was too big for their lounge room and they reboxed it and returned it the next day to swap for the 65". He said Good Guys said they would sign it out for him (since they would have to turn it on to make sure the returned TV was in as new condition), but they obviously didn't. So, at least I know there is nothing wrong with the TV, but it would still be nice to be told by Good Guys. Also, how can I be sure the previous owner didn't do something that might cause an issue in the long run (like transported it lying down, or twisted the panel when installing the stand). I'm emailing the Good Guys now to see what they think about this.
