Parts Value is about ~$1600. CPU and GPU and top 3/4 of the current gen

    • +2

^ this. Only downside I can really see is the m.2 SATA SSD rather than an NVMe. Other things like no USB 3.1 Gen 2 are things you could probably live without at this price. Wireless AC a nice little bonus.

      • Thanks for the detailed explanation. By the way what does AC stand for?

        • +4

Just the wifi standard. Called wifi 5 nlwadays iirc.

802.11 AC would probably be what you see most.

This or any build from Techfast?

    • Thinking same thing

    • +7

Still Techfast for parts value, but this is about as good as it gets from Dell.

    • +7

This actually beats Tech Fast deal with a better case, free shipping, and extra warranty - wow!

    • This in a heart beat. If I hadn't just bought PCs for the kids I'd be very tempted. I went with higher end graphics though, so I'm not completely kicking mysefl.

  • +1

Good on Dell for trying to get 'with it'… but I just couldn't live with that case. Looks like half of it was sliced off into the digital world

  • i7-9700 or 3900x (from techfast)?

    • Depends

      • on?

        • +8

are you a pepsi or a coke man?

          • +5

@naphman: pepsi and coke would be lenovo & dell.

Techfast would be LA Ice Cola

            • +4

@[Deactivated]: He was referring to AMD & Intel…

            • @[Deactivated]: Haha la ice cola holy shit that's a blast from that yellow and black shopping centre place… Can't remember the name though

      i7 9700 has 8 cores and 8 threads

R9 3900X has 12 cores and 24 threads and uses less power, produces less heat :)

Pretty simple choice bra :) the 3900X will be a finewine CPU and the 9700 will age badly

Just a note to everyone who is buying a PC in the hopes of Overclocking, Dell lockup their BIOS. You will not be able to push the hardware in this PC beyond the standard limits.

If that is what you are after then build a PC/Buy Techfast etc.

    • CPU isn't an overclockable option, will need a 9700K or similar

      • A K cpu has the multiplier unlocked.
A non-K cpu can still have the base clock changed.

        • by how much 1mhz ?

          • @dcep: probably by whatever the turbo is on said cpu

          • @dcep: It’s not as good of a way to overclock a cpu.
It also depends on what generation of cpu you’ve got.
As older intel chips had memory speed tied to the core clock. Which made overclocking harder.

    • Guessing there is no way around this?

For a price comparison using cheapest part options in PCPP
Obviously you can tailor further but shows that there's a few hundred saving and deliveyr/warranty being the Dell benefit.

    • You can take the cooler off, 9700 comes with one. Not that it makes much difference haha

  • If I swap out a new harddisk, can I reuse the previous Windows license?

    • Just need the windows key.

460 Watt Internal Power Supply. So basically no headroom to upgrade the GPU later on without a new power supply and apparently locked BIOS. I can't help but think that in a year or two you'll want to squeeze a bit more out of this system and realise its limited.

    • +3

If its only going to be for a 1080 screen, it'll be fine for a while.

    • Can you not upgrade the PSU too?

Are Dell Desktops tougher to upgrade components than a custom MSY build?

      • You can, but when all you want to do is drop in a new GPU and you then need to spend more money on a PSU and the hassle of rewiring. The techfast deals seem like a better long term option to me.

        • +2

I thought the TF computers came with very average PSUs too (I always see people talking about upgrading them)

          • @jayz: Yeah the stock ones seem to always been rated Bronze but they are normally much higher watt. No rating on the Dell one that I can see.

  • +2

Had my Dell for 2.5 yrs and no issues at all.

  • I had heating issues with this unit. CPU got to over 95 degrees on apex. Google heat mods and issues.

Anyone know how the Inspiron and XPS desktops differ? Are the Inspiron gaming desktops worse than XPS?

There's the XPS 8930 Desktop available for $1671.20. Seems to be the same specs as the Inspiron apart from more storage and different case?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dell-XPS-8930-Desktop-9th-Gen-Co…

    • Xps name/branding?? This one better value than Xps …

  • Would this stack with the eBay 5%??? From Shop back

    • Can't use codes with shopback offer

  • Does this actually come with a HDMI port? It only lists a DisplayPort in the specs, but the features section says "Dominate both screens: An HDMI port allows you to connect to an external monitor to view content in up to UHD/2160p resolution for stunning detail."

    • Nvm, I understand now. It's on the graphics card. Whoops

  • Purchased!

  • Does anyone remember the delivery dated quoted when purchased? I didn't remember it saying December.

  • Missed it
