      Hilarious.

So like I thought, making it up as they go along.

    • Hahaha sounds like the last pathetic excuse they have in their little black book

  • best way to top up myki and maximise this offer?

    • top up exactly $20 and not 1c more.

      • I meant like where can I do it?

        • +1

          At a participating retailer …

  • The AMEX map shows the address for THE LUCKY CHARM GALERIES as 201 ELIZABETH STREET, SYDNEY NSW. Yet on Google Maps the address is 500 George St, Sydney NSW 2000, which is 300m away from Elizabeth Street address. Are these 2 completely different stores, or did AMEX get the address for Lucky Charms Galeries totally wrong? Thanks

There's 4 according to my list. All are different.

      • +2

I have been to 3 of the 4 Lucky Charms. I think all 4 do exist.

        1. QVB - as you exit Town Hall station barrier into QVB, it's on your right.
        2. Galeries - as you walk towards JB Hi-Fi, it's on your left. It's one level before street level.
        3. Within Westfield, enter via the entrance closest to St James station.
        • +2

Fourth Lucky Charm is in Pavilion; if you walk towards the cinemas via Town Hall, it's on the right hand side, near W Cosmetics

  • Dang. No Tong li and sushi hub this year.

    • Sushi Hub are a big chain now so not surprised

  • Am I too late? I can't find it in my account.

Does "registrations capped" mean there's a quota that has now been exhausted?

    • Yes. It's all over except for the shopping.

      • The phase "registrations capped" indicates there's a cap but it doesn't indicate that it's been exhausted. They should use different wording.

  • The Shop Small map appears to be working again

    • +2

      Bad luck pauls warehouse!

  • -2

When did registration close and how come you know that?

  • So this doesn't work if paid through Google or Apple Pay?

    • +1

It'll work. Third party processor means PayPal

  • I am seeing at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/wiki/amex_shop_small_guide:

    Swanston Street Lotto
    3/227 Collins St
    Melbourne

    Updated Nov 2019

But I am not seeing that merchant in this year's Shop Small listing

It’s now called Wu Lotto. Yesterday, I recharged MyKi there. $0.60 surcharge for $20 MyKi recharge.

      • Got it. Wu Lottery. Thanks

    • Did 2 cards today. 60c surcharge. Got email immediately. It's right next to Om All You Can Eat. :)

  • -1

St Martin's City Newsagency - $0.80 surcharge, no limit on cards.

Today's Opal run - as usual, did one card to see if I get the Amex email, and then asked politely if I could do more.

The Lucky Charm Galeries (201 Elizabeth Street, Shop 22, Sydney; near JB Hifi) - Friendly shop assistant. 40c surcharge for $20 top up. Couldn't see any sign as to surcharge. EFTPOS machine only accepts chip or swipe (no tap and go), so you have to pin or sign. Yes to multiple cards if they are quiet - please also let other customers go first if they are not doing Opal top ups.

The Lucky Charm Pavilion (580 George Street, HSBC Centre, Shop LG15; near Chatime) - Friendly shop assistant. 2% surcharge for Amex (so 40c surcharge for $20 top up). Clear sign saying one Amex card per person. The shop assistant also repeated that firmly and asked if the card is in my name. EFTPOS machine only accepts chip or swipe (no tap and go), so you have to pin or sign.

Separate Amex emails received for each one, ie, they are different merchants on Amex.

    • +1

Dunno why the Galeries has Elizabeth St as the address; that's two blocks away … Should be Pitt/George St

+1, 40c surchage. No card limit (as long as its quiet)
Very friendly lady at the counter, went while it was quiet
EFTPOS machine, no contactless for AMEX, so must use physical cards to do swipe and PIN

    • Lucky charm Westfield now has $0.40 surcharge (2%)

    • Any limit on card? World News Agency - MetCentre, $0.40 surcharge?

      • Tried just then and was limited to two cards

        • Same, limited to two as well for world news agency met centre

          • @cwongtech: Confirmed - The Lucky Charm QVB - $0.40 surcharge, no card limit

Confirmed - St Martin's News Agency (31 Market St) - $0.80 surcharge, no card limit, physical cards only.
Their EFTPOS machine appears to be a suncorp terminal, Amex contactless via Google Pay keeps declining with "PIN not entered"), physical cards contactless are fine

    • Lucky Charm at Westfield charged me 2% and also had to show ID matching CC

      • Tried Lucky Charm Westfield today and asked for ID, so couldn’t use my husband’s card.

        • +1

They can't check amex added into Google pay

    • Did World Newsagency today in MetCentre Wynyard. 40c surcharge, tap and go ok.

  • +1

Opal recharge works at Quay Newsagency with 1.6% surcharge (32c for $20 recharge). I received email from Amex.

    • multiple cards ok? tap and go?

      • Tap and go. Didn't try multiple cards as it was quite busy when I went.

        • +5

I went there today, they ask me to charge myself $20 on each card and they top up the final amount. They are the most efficient shop so far, in and out 5 mins for 10 cards.

    • I topped up my Opal there yesterday, but didn't receive email. Does anyone know why?

      • I actually received the email just now, so nvm

  • Are the supplementary cardholders emails meant to get an email when they made a purchase at a participating retailer?

    • +1

Yes. They do get emails too.

      • I made a purchase and still haven't received an email :(

        (From Wu's Pharmacy).

        • Dumb questions: you did register your supplementary card and checked your junk e-mail?

          • +1

@kerfuffle: Yeah I definitely signed up the supplementary card to the promo.

I have re-added the email address. Will try again at another place tomorrow and see if I get the email.

          • @kerfuffle: I have made another purchase and not received an email. Not sure what is going on :(

            • @Xishnik: What shop was the second one?

              • +1

                @kerfuffle: Oxford Street Convenience store.

I called amex and they told me they can see it's all correct in system and I will get the $10 back. They said sometimes email isn't generated. I will keep checking for the rebate.

Able to confirm another Opal location, Edgecliff Railway Bookstall at Edgecliff station (the one directly opposite to station ticket gate).

30cents surcharge per top up (I did $20 top up, so $20.30 transaction), got email straight away.

  • +1

Is it normal for tattslotto purchaes being allowed to at newsagencies?
Thought it was against the rules…..

Managed to buy a lotto ticket with small shop

    Kind of feel guilty ;)

    • +1

      What rule?
I bought a half price ticket for last Sat Super Draw and won 3x. Can't be happier.

  • Another Opal topup confirmation - BERRY MINIMART, 124 Walker Street North Sydney (next to officeworks/five burger joint place) - $1 surcharge

    • $1 is a bit much 5%

      • Yeah it is, pretty sure Nextra chatswood charges the same but haven't tried this year yet.

        • Nextra top Ryde no surcharge but I remember they limit to 1 pre person last year

  • +1

Oxford St. News agency - 0.50 surcharge
    Got email straight away

    • Can always rely on them to keep surcharges low (not sure if they still waive it if you buy an item like a pack of gum)

      • +2

Yeah, the old mate is always welcoming

  • +1

I used the offer at Pinewood news agency to top up Myki, no surcharge. I had to use an older style EFTPOS terminal which didn't have pay-pass so don't forget to bring your physical Amex cards. Hope this helps.

    • They have "no Amex" sign now :(

      • I went there today. The moment I asked to reload myki with $20, the lady asked are you paying with Amex and then said the terminal doesn't work… oh well.

  • +2

Chemist warehouse 268-270 Liverpool Road Ashfield NSW is in the list! Time to buy some Chemist Warehouse gift cards.

    • +2

You sure you got the right map with Chemist Warehouse showing the Shop Small logo? I just tried to look for myself and it didn't show up. Only when I unchecked the Small Shop filter, did it show up.

      • +2

My mistake. Looks like there is no logo. Thanks for the information.

      • +1

2 of my local chemist warehouses showed up on the map when I did a search on the 1st but now both are gone. Not sure what happened.

        • +1

Forgot to check the Small Shop filter, it seems …

          • @kerfuffle: Not very likely as I have always checked the shop small map the same way. I thought it might be due to cw recently adopting amex so their turnovers have not exceeded the shop small limit yet. Anyway too late now I guess.

  • +1

Any QLDers and GoCard top up runs? I see only one confirmed from the shop small wiki page so far.

  • Any Go Card topup store in Robina (Gold Coast)?

  • Wattle Park Amcal and Zouki Convenience both working for myki topups with no surcharge, multiple cards

    • Zouki Convenience inside Royal Melbourne Hospital right? I did myki topup there but didn’t get confirmation email. The shop small offer is definitely saved on the card I used.

      • +1

Correct, and fully credited 2 days later

        • Thanks I also got the credit few days later but never received the email. I recently used a another card @ Zouki and same thing happened - no email. I guess as long as we get the credit that’s what matters:)

  • Victoria Harbour Pharmacy and Daily News(although there is a $80 cap this year) both working for multiple cards myki topup.

NewsXpress Clayton no longer accept amex for myki, the clerk girl try to put it through but the screen only flash payment prompt briefly before terminal kills it.

    • -1

So can I use my Samsung Pay loaded with the Amex card - top up my myki $20ea for 3 times in each of the 2 newsagency?

      • +1

No to the second part of your question, unless you have three cards.

The first one has already been answered if you read the comments …

        • -1

Thanks - Yes I do have 3 cards.

Sorry my question is more on if I can use Samsung Pay loaded with my AMEX cards or do I have to use physical card?

          Thanks.

          • @bluebluebird: No issue with Apple pay so should be fine with Samsung pay.

          • @bluebluebird: In my experience, if the merchant rejects AMEX cards, it will also reject Samsung/Android Pay linked to AMEX cards.

  • +4

Topped up Myki at Prahran Central Pharmacy and Armadale Minimart (IGA - Corner High Street and Orrong Road) with multiple cards. No surcharge.

  • Anyone know any other Opal topup locations close to World Square apart from Wu's? There used to be some at the allied marts nearby but they seem to no longer be on the map.

Oxford st convenience - 5 min walk from museum

      • 18-32 Oxford Street?
