Coca Cola QuickTap Vending Machine Payment System Shutdown - Use Remaining Balance (>= $0.01) for Any Vending Machine Drink

600

Time to dig out these cards from your cupboards/wallets if you've got them.

If you have any remaining balance on a QuickTap card which is too low for a purchase, QuickTap will let you use the remaining balance and will make up the difference until the QuickTap network is shut down some time later this year (to be replaced with VendSwift).

    What? What is that?

  • Didn’t even know you could get physical cards for these. Thought it was only an app or something.

    • +1

There was an OzBargain deal around 2014

  • Cool

  • I have one of these cards sitting on my desk. How do I check the balance? I don't see an option to sign up via email or reset a password on the quicktap website.

    • Okay - found my login details.

Unfortunately the balance is $0 and I can't top up a small amount to get a cheap drink :(

I wonder if it'll just give me a free drink with a $0 balance? Will try later and report back…

  • I threw 2 of those cards few weeks ago. :(

  • So you could empty a vending machine with $0.01 on a card? :p

    • Well no, it would take your one cent and they would pay the rest on your first drink.

      • So you can't purchase multiple items in a single transaction? :/

        • +27

I don't know any vending machine that does that

        • +2

Some of the new vending machines will let you do that. Coke is replacing this quick tap with an app and system call Vendswift, which will allow you to buy multiple items in a single transaction.

          • +3

@Beef: I’ll buy 47 and let that machine clog up the opening with bottles

            • +1

@ireadtermsofuse: I once unjammed a machine which had 7 bottles stuck. Some idiot probably went to buy multiple bottles, didn't take one out each time, then couldn't take any bottles out. Others can along, didn't notice the stuck pile of bottles and added to the pile.
They're like people who don't know how to insert coins slowly then jam up the coin slot.

You can get an APK off the internet for the app, the login system still works. That's what I had to do.

  • +3

Used one for free drink back in 2014, card has sat in drawer since then. Just checked, $0 balance.

  • +1

I had these and claimed already. Essentially they let you go to negative balance as a thank you for using Quicktap.

I am going to miss them. They always give 10% discount on any vent drinks.

The new system Vendswift doesnt do that.

    • Vendswift app will be coming soon and it'll have rewards! Also some Vendswift machines can do multi buy specials like 2 waters for $5

      • +4

So the price is no longer 10% less and you lose more money because of the spending incentive program?

        Woo?

        • +3

The website for Vendswift says that instead of 10% off, you get a free drink every 10 vends.

          • +1

@mubd1234: Buy 9 and get 10th free or buy 10 and get one free? Also, discount now is better than reward later.

  • Who knew coca cola had their own top up card…. seems kinda pointless.

    • I think the only people that got the cards, were people who phoned up to complain about a machine stealing money. They sent a pre-loaded card as compensation.

      • When did this start? In 2014 a machine took my money. I rung up, they asked how much the machine took, then sent me a money order for it.

        • From memory, I got mine circa 2016.

      • You had essentially three options. If you're still at the machine, they can remotely force a vend eg if the coin slot is jammed but the machine still works.

You can have your money sent to you on one of these cards. I never got them in the two instances I requested it.

Third option is the best and that's a direct deposit into your bank account once a tech has been out to the machine and confirmed the fault.

Most people don't bother calling up when there's a machine fault and just curse at and kick the machine lol

  • I have a card with credit on it, but it never seems to work. The app also almost never worked either.

  • Seems like they discontinued the iOS app. Was able to download it again under my Purchases and login successfully.

Pleasantly surprised when I found $2.80 left in my account :)

I think this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135205 was the only time I used a Coke vending machine in the last 5 years

    • March 2014 is actually 5 years and 6 months ago now! I feel old

More litter like this polluting the live page !

    • -5

And the environment with those dreadful plastic bottles discarded everywhere. Such vending machines should be banned.

      • And that's the fault of the machine?

It's like blaming maccas for their scabby customers who can't put litter in the many bins after they've finished eating.

        Sound logic, mate.

        • -3

You're comparing Mc'Ds recyclable paper/fibre packaging to single-use plastic bottle environmental waste? If you don't understand the difference, don't demonstrate your own naivety by attempting to call out logic you don't understand, but educate yourself first. Suggest you start with https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/plastics and then Google away further so you don't continue to sound ignorant of the problems of single-use plastic bottles.
We banned plastic bags for the same reason/source you claim (scabby customers whom couldn't put the bags in the bin, and the environmental damage they do) … plastic bottles should/will be next, for the same reasons.

          • @auMouth: you:

            plastic bottles discarded everywhere

this is a littering issue caused by humans, not machines.
you can't even keep track of your own arguments and you call me naive, ignorant etc?

lol that's really so cute and precious.

            • -2

@tdw: Plastic bags were discarded by humans too, not machines. They were banned, for good reason. Single-use plastic bottles should too, and that starts with the method of dispensing/purchasing. Just like plastic bags. Keep commenting, your denial and ignorance shows through VERY strongly.

              • @auMouth: yeah, you keep up your hilarious illogical crusade of banning stuff in a thread about vending machine payment system. that'll teach us iGnoRaMuSEs.

why stop at banning vending machines? supermarkets also sell these same plastic bottles.
forget trying to change the underlying human behaviour to stop littering; why, that's too hard.
keep your over-the-top, bandaid solutions coming, champ.

              • @auMouth: Plastic is fantastic.

Sorry, it is not single use. The Govt would like you to think that so they can get the GST of the new 15c bags.

One plastic bag for me means I can buy a lot of groceries and carry them home, use it again either for bin liners OR scoop pet's stuff OR cover certain items from dust.

Nowadays, I don't buy a lot from Supermarkets unless I used trolley to wheel it to the car park and hoohaah dumped them. So they now have to pay more for people collecting trolleys.

          • +1

@auMouth: Plastic bags were banned so supermarkets could sell them back to us, plain and simple. Remember, once upon a time people used paper bags until they were replaced with plastic bags for some reason…

            • @smartazz104: I don't know about your habits, but I haven't bought a plastic bag from a store since the first week of the ban. How hard is it to take a reusable one with you? There has been quite literally millions of them stopped from entering circulation - this is the reason for the ban.

  • I got $1.60 left

  • Yes. 85c left on mine.

  • Saw this for ages but wouldn’t let you use it until 20th September. Many QuickTap machines have been replaced to not have it anymore, and others I tried to redeem didn’t connect to the system anymore.

If anyone is at Wynyard, the vending machines inside the gates at the stairs leading to the platform 3 will work with quicktap.

  • I am simply amazed on how did you even manage to find this!?
