A friend has recently been lucky enough to win a brand new car with stamp duty, rego and insurance included. They don’t really need a new car, and so I’m trying to help with how to maximise sale price for the car. It’s not yet been delivered so ideally would be nice to be able to go straight into the new buyer’s name but I don’t know if this is actually an option or if anyone would actually purchase a new car that can’t be inspected/test driven through a private sale. Anyone have any experience with this or ideas as to how to maximise sale price? Thanks :)
Friend Won a Car, How Do You Sell for Best Price?
Comments
I have personally won a car before. It was a new model. Took for ever to be delivered. Keys got lost. Had to wait for new keys to be delivered a few months.
By the time I got the car it was no longer hard to find stock.
I had it on carsales for a few months. It had .. 10km.
Not one single inquiry.
RRP was 41k. I had it at 35k.Gave up and sold it to one of the car buying agents for 30k.
Nb: don't forget to insure it while in your possession.
Nb2: I would have kept it had I won it 6 months earlier as I had just bought a new car too.
Nb3: I have not won any new cars sinceSounds like it won't be easy to sell then.. a quick google search showed some people suggesting selling back to the dealer. Did you try this option?
And thanks for the tip re: insurance
I did. They were offering $30k when it was a hard to get model (before I even had it)
So I expect they would have offered less when I actually got it.
The dealer I picked it up from offered 28k.
So 30k was ok.
Be careful those car buyer people have you negotiate a price and then at the end slug you with a fee for their services. So be aware what their fee is upfront
Wish I would win a new car :(
What car is it? And what state is it in?
It's a Mazda CX-5 Akera 4x4 2.5l turbo and will be in SA
My bid is $35k ;)
$35,001
@theHMASfriendship: $35,001.01
@FireRunner: $35,001.01 and a lolly
@Bargain80: I'm out
At least it's something people actually want. Thought it was going to be an mg zs or similar.
Yeah, this should be easy to sell, maximising the return is the key objective.
Say it once belonged to John Voight
JON Voight.. and don't forget the pencil
and try to match the teeth marks if you can….
I recently watched this episode of Seinfeld
Asked dealer if they want to buy it
Negotiate with the providing dealer to do you a cash deal. Never even see the car. They'll push it onto some unsuspecting buyer offering them some amazing one off deal telling them it's a cancelled order.
As an ex-dealership employee, this would be my recommendation - by far the best way to go.
Easiest way is to either do a deal with the dealer, or put it through an auction house. By the time you factor in the time and effort necessary, there is every possibility this will get you the best price as well.
The only place to sell is ozbargain classifieds…
Would the buyer need to pay stamp duty again?
Should have read the competition T&Cs, for big prizes like cars they always say an equivalent cash payout can be accepted instead.
They got it for free, any price is the best price.
None will buy car without looking and driving.
