    • The phone credit cancellation fee is only listed for the 24 month plans.

So I pulled the plug this morning after trying with few telstra chat people who keep throwing the same template at ya when you ask for cancellation. Paying $390 etc and $200 = $590 for pixel 4. Better not to instigate too much to bring heavy attention over such sweet deals.

    • A cancellation or a change to a different plan?

      • cancellation. no point in keeping the service and paying $50/m.

  • so i spoke to a manager on the 24x7 app and the latest twist is that there is a mess up with their porting service, and it could take up to 14 days for port over. anyone else being told this? tempted to go cancel my order tbh

    • I was told latest by Wednesday next week

    • I was told maybe next Monday or Tuesday or later…

    • Spoke to the porting team this morning, was told there's definitely an issue with the porting software and that it will be resolved by early next week. That's code for: "Homer Simpson during a nuclear meltdown". I'd imagine that at some point they'll fix it and you'll still have to chase it up yourself. It's crazy that most other, smaller providers have added extra porting security without issue, and yet, here's Telstra, the largest telco in the country struggling to send out sms messages. Is anyone even remotely surprised?

If this isn't sorted and my number ported by Tuesday evening, I'll cancel my order too

      • The fact that they’re much larger makes it logical that the system has serious complexities. When things go wrong with big systems, they can go very wrong.

Not surprising that smaller companies can switch their process with ease.

Having more resources to throw at a problem doesn’t really reduce the complexity or chance of failure.

        • +1

Was just thinking the same thing re larger company vs agile smaller ones. That said, I don't think there's any real excuse. This system rolled out almost 2 months ago, any teething problems should have been sorted out by now. And if they haven't been, there should be a backup plan until they have been. I get that things go wrong but not having a backup system or plan to manually sort these things out is nothing short of comical. But what have we all come to expect from Telstra?

        • +2

still does not explain the fact that even to this hour if you go sign up you might get lucky and get the message in 3 mins. how does that work? some other guy posted yesterday that he and his wife went in to do this, his wife got sms instantly while he is still waiting

          • @striker5950: Valid point. Again, how hard would it be for the porting team to have access to the codes and manually send them via sms? Obviously contingency plans aren't factored in when planning these major roll-outs / upgrades.

            • @HGLK: I ported two fresh Optus sims (one for wife and I) but everything was/is in my name. Existing Telstra account. One worked and one didn't.

Pretty bonkers… but not much we can do about it I guess.

    • ) tempted to go cancel my order tbh

Can you cancel? Contract is already signed.

      • actually the online chat offered to cancel mine i said ill go in store and do it, i think its worth waiting till monday, after that im cancelling

        • Thanks. I'll wait til Tuesday and cancel if possible.

  • anyone tried to sign up today and have a problem with port in due to the weekend?

    • Nope just did mine at JB hifi bankstown this morning. Bought a $2 optus sim, recharged 10 on it, and jb handled the rest in 30 minutes

      • ok lets get to the bottom of this, i did not have any credit on my simcard, ive had it for a few months, it was still active because i rang it and it worked. what if this is the reason? can other people who are still waiting for the sms confirm if they also did not have any credit on the sim card?

        • The SIM I used has credit on it and I'm still waiting.

        • Definitely not the reason. Have plenty of credit on my account. Been sending / receiving texts and using data all day.

          • @HGLK: hmmm it seems like all optus ones get through quick, is there anyone who has used an optus sim who is still waiting on the message? every optus person seems to get the message quick

            • @striker5950: I'm optus post-paid and still waiting since thursday afternoon.

              • +1

@xxNazzer: ohk so yours is post paid, we are strictly talking about prepaid, ive read numerous comments about people who have bought a new optus sim with 10 dollar credit and all of them got the message in 5-10 mins

i am so tempted to cancel the order via 24x7 chat, go to woolies pick up a optus sim and re-do this because im so sure the message wont come until mid next week if at all

                • @striker5950: I'm Coles/Optus prepaid, $2 SIM with $10 credit recharge and still waiting since Thursday afternoon.

                  • @aussiefied: well sh!t that throws that plan out the window.. it looks like a chance sort of thing at this moment.

                • @striker5950: Think it's hit and miss atm. If you're in the lucky 2 percent, you'll be done and ported in 30 minutes tops. If not, prepare to wait….

        • No, I have credit. Unlimited calls. Still no sms

    • I signed up yesterday and still waiting on the sms

  • Telstra live chat were actually really helpful and said they would push the port request forward and I ~should~ get the message within the next 1-3 hours. Been waiting 40hrs so far but only have a small window of time to go back to JB this afternoon to get the phone. Finger's crossed their system will back up the agent's claims.

    • +1

its not gonna happen mate, they like to stroke it for you just to get you to wait longer. but do report back if you get it

      • I talked to live chat who told me to call this number 1800631334. When you call the number it says 40 minute wait time.

        • +1

People on whirlpool are reporting their ports have taken up to 3 weeks. Apart from deals like this, why would anyone actually want to sign up with Telstra?

        • +2

we all done that yesterday, they say 48 hours lol, one said 14 days, another said 3 hours, non of which are accurate, they are just pulling numbers our of their @ss

    • I've been told of the same and none happened.

    • I was told by their porting team (1800631334) that their systems dealing with port ins are down and won't be fixed till Monday or Tuesday the earliest. I signed up Thursday early morning. Still no pre-port SMS.

Anyone has success cancelling their plans ($65 to $50 m2m) today?

    • I did it last night with no issue at all. Just cancelled the plan today as I already had a Telstra number. Guess will find out if incurred any fees when my next bill comes in but had been told by two chat staff that the cancellation fees were waived.

      • I think they mean the fees for $65 plan waived. But then if you cancel the $50 that might have fees of its own ($270). Not too sure though

        • +1

Nope, asked about cancellation fees both times. First time was told the ETC was waived and when I cancelled they said there was a "fee waiver" attached to the plan so it was $0.

  • any update if it still works?

  • I bought the Pixel 4 from JB (Gold Coast) yesterday. Luckily the number port was done in under 5 minutes. Paid for the phone ($199) with 3 different gift cards. I also claimed the Google Nest through Telstra website (by texting the IMEI number to 851, and it would send you a promo code to claim the Nest). Used the webchat and was lucky enough to change from $65 plan to $50 month to month plan…sounds like a lucky day and should put some money on Cox Plate:)

    • what does the $50 plan include?

      • Unlimited calls and text, 15GB data, no internationals

    • Hi retoxx
Can you please explain how to claim the nest as I just got my pixel from JB today thanks

  • Anybody tried porting from circles.life? Received sms instantly but the the account activation is taking time.

    • Yes, I'm with Circles.Life as well. I'm still waiting for activation. I received the message instantly as well.
Live chat with Circles.Life and they said no request from Telstra yet to port out the number. Checked with Telstra chat and they said if I received they SMS that's requesting circles already. I'm going to try to check with circles again today when their chat opens at 8am. Contemplating now if I just cancel the contract. Really want the XL

      • How'd your porting from Circles go?

        • Ah, yeah I canceled it. Apparently, it was ordered wrong as the JB staff put it as prepaid and not postpaid. Found out my circles is postpaid (MTM). So canceled the order, bought an Optus Sim and used that instead.

          How about you?

          • @mcargy08: Still waiting. SMS went through but been waiting since 1pm for it to switch over.

          • @mcargy08: Who told you it was prepaid and not postpaid? Telstra chat or Circles?

            • @lolcoaster: Yeah I received the SMS as soon as the order was placed, but didn't get ported after 24 hours. So I just asked Telstra to cancel it. Telstra told me it's prepaid as I get bills from them.

  • Too easy…

Used a new Optus prepaid SIM
    Port took maybe 1 hr
Paid 199$ and picked up the phone
Claimed the nest hub using imei
Live chat changed plan from 65 to 50 M2M with no cancellation charges

I feel bad lol. Got me thinking ultimately who suffers from this, Telstra or JB. Certainly good for Google and the consumer ( well until they stop offering deals like this due to abuse ;) )

  • Hi
Just sign up for one this morning at Roseland , Pixel 4 64G black need driver licence and keycard , took only a few minutes to have SMS , and everything done in 10 minutes , pay $199 and take the phone home , Thanks OP

    • How did you get the phone same day? I call the store and they said that you need to sign up today and Phone will be sent to you by post.

      • You can do it all on the same day if your credit check, port are done on the same day. I did it on Thursday in under an hour and as long as the JB store has the pixel / colour you want, they can give you the phone there.

      • I don't know how they do it , I walked in Roseland JB Hifi and ask for the plan in the catalog , and the boy who is very helpfull tell me I have to have 2 ID , and ask me about current plan I had on the phone , I told him I have pre paid Lebara for 12 months and it is still one month left . then he rang up some one and ask me to do E check on the phone I have to agree on this on that …, and told me a lengthy term and condition , I have to say on phone yes I understand .. That all and he gave me a Sim and ask me when the current one( Lebara ) stop working and I have SMS contain a 6 digits code , click on the link and enter the code ( he told me it might take up to 12 hours as some others have to wait , but within 10 minutes the Lebara stop working and SMS coming ) , there are 3 colors , Black , White , and Purple to choose from , I picked Black , all occur very quick a bit more than 10 mins , I mainly come to Roseland is to visit Mr Minit to cut a key and end up with a new phone to take home .

    • Do they also do credit check as well like a normal 24 month plan?

      • Yep they did a credit check

  • Bought my Optus sim card at 1pm and activated it. Went straight to jb. Took a little while with the guy to sign up but once it was all done I got the text in under 5 min. Just left with the phone

    • Which Optus sim card did you buy?

      • Just the "$2 prepaid mobile phone sim". Had to top up $10 to activate it though

  • Just the last 2 black ones from Melbourne Central

  • Did you have to wait for the port to complete (the other Sim becomes inactive) before you can get the phone or, do the SMS from Telstra enough? I already got the SMS, but port hasn't been completed yet. JB won't let me get the phone until it's fully ported.

    • I had to wait for it to Port, took about 2 minutes after I got the initial text though

      • Thanks! I'm still waiting, it's been almost 2 hours since the SMS!

  • Anyone here after the xl and just got the normal pixel 4 because of the good deal? Do you wish you had the xl instead? I'm after the xl but this looks too good to pass up!

    • seems that some got the pixel 4 xl by paying the difference. Oh well , the pixel 4 is good enough and easier for one handed operation. But 900mah is what makes the xl attractive. If you claim trs , buying the pixel 4 is better as you will get 15-20 on the return for $230 more.

  • I ordered my device today. My local doesn't have any white Pixel 4's in stock, so they will get it transferred from another store. I have claimed my Nest and am now just waiting for Telstra to change me to the month to month plan. Happy days.

    • +1

How did you get the Nest without the phone? I thought you needed the IMEI?

      • JB printed the IMEI on the receipt. I paid the $199 today.

  • Has anyone been able to get the orange colour?

    • Yep I got it from the Nunawading store

    • Yeah I've got one reserved for when my porting goes through…

  • Anyone failed to port in number in store? The sales guy that tried to initiate my port failed after several calls to telstra he said that they couldn't process due to the lack of credit history or soemthing under my name.

    • I'm also afraid of this, because I always use my savings to buy stuff, meaning I never use credit from the bank. Which I have never got / applied for.
Anyone who can shed some light on this please?

      • I will try another store tomorrow and update on the outcome. Might go for the s10e deal.

  • +1

I had a bit of luck today. After switching from Telstra to Amaysim a couple of days ago, I went into JB today and had no issues getting this deal. It changed over in about 2mins. I was told I couldn't pay to upgrade to the XL or larger memory. I took the phone to another shop and told them that I have bought it but want the XL with 128GB and could I pay the difference and upgrade. As long as the box was sealed it was fine. I paid an extra $380 (using JB gift cards ofcourse) and now have the 128GB XL Pixel 4. I also spoke to telstra chat who have changed me to the $50 month to month plan and advised that there will be no charge for this change. Very happy with the deal. Thanks!

    • Did they mention that ur first bill will be 65 plus 50?

      • telstra uses prorated

    • damn you really got a good deal like that, i wouldn't dare touch the smaller pixel but the xl is something to look at. with a bigger battery 128gb and higher res screen its way better.

    • Did they say you can also cancel $50 with no ETC or you should stay with that?

    • Did you have to show the receipt to the other store?

    • I thought the IMEI was tied to your account with Telstra so telstra can credit jb the difference between the price you pay in store and the retail value of the device. Did they just simply return the phone and give you a new xl, or did they have to also update your account with Telstra. Can anyone chime in and provide further information on this please. Thanks

    • +1

That was pure luck, when the JB person see your receipt they should've known that there's a $850 credit towards the phone which is from Telstra plan. Congrats on the bargain though.

      • -1

That said, JB get the credit from telstra, what do they care if you use that credit towards something else?

        • +1

Ofc they care, if you looked at the Telstra deals in the past, these deals are always for the less popular phones. They try to clear stock of the less popular phone, if they just give out what everyone want they'll be at lost as they could've sell their popular products easily but instead they sell it under promotion price.

Also I don't think Telstra pay the full amount credit to JB, there must be some agreement that would benefit both parties.

    • which store was this?

    • +1

Omg thats really good did they ask you for the original receipt?

      • Yes I gave them the phone and the original receipt

    • I also did the same, took to different JB and changed to 128GB XL, also managed to get changed over to the $60 month to month (wanted the GB's) with no ETC

  • I think they waive $390 for breaking the $65/month if they put you on a new $50 contract.

Then if you cancel the $50/month contract, you pay ETC of $270.

    • I've tried 4 times since yesterday, they have told me that the ETC fee comes from the contract with JB Hifi and they can't waive it. If you cancel or change from the original contract then you get charged the $390, however if you do change to the $50 plan then there is no ETC for that plan. I'm not sure how other people are getting switched with no fee but that's what I've been told each time. The last guy even called me out and said he can see I've already been rejected multiple times, so I think if you get turned down initially then they are unlikely to change their mind. Anyway I just cancelled the plan as I'm already happy with the deal I got.

      • "Anyway I just cancelled the plan as I'm already happy with the deal I got."
Is that phone + $390 ETC

        • $589 total for pixel 4 and Google home hub
