  • Can you match the price at JB hi-fi ?

    • +1

      Nope

  • +5

Seems cheap for a 5G phone now 🤔 legit?

    • +18

      Username doesn't check out.

  • How does this compare to the mi 9t pro?

    • +2

      Same here.

I cancelled my eBay order, however, not sure if I did the right thing.

      9T Pro
      + 3.5mm jack
      + battery life

      Mix 3 5G
      + wireless charging
      - battery life

      Any other differences?

      • Oh yeah, and screen reader vs dedicated fingerprint reader.

      • +2

        128GB non-expandable memory is a bit disappointing.

      • There are conflicting info around whether Mix 3 5G has wireless charging or not. Most likely it's gone missing with expanded battery over OG Mix 3.

      • +2

Since I use mobile devices mainly for playing music I own and audio books, the lack of a SD card slot of headphone jack is a deal breaker. That said, most people now stream music rather than store it on memory cards.

      • +1

I cancelled the cancellation and getting 9T pro.

Reason being is that is more waterproof than this:

        and

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DFBd7YyRBos

some tests with the Mi Mix 3, found it unsuitable even in rain or dusty environments with wind. I ride every day on a motorcycle and the phone is in a, phone holder, raining or not. I don't think that Mi Mix 3 would hold.

Also, for those who want to know, Mi Mix 3 is cooler than you think - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2mRXgZTUm8s.

      https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9378&idPhone2=9…

I'd go for the 9t pro, for the 3.5mm, newer chipset and larger battery

    • +3

Typing on the 9t right now. You don't need 9t pro unless you're a mobile gamer. QC 730 working well for me.

I say go for 9t/9t pro. Camera is better than mi Mix 3. These days the main difference between phones are the cameras. I believe 9t supports wireless charging too, though it is not too important for me. Battery life is very good.

But the camera is definitely not as good as a Samsung flagship. For the money, in good lighting it works well.

      • +1

no wireless charging. you can do some tweaks to camera settings manually for better photos, takes a bit of tweaking.

      • can you really afford to carry a smartphone with a sub-standard camera these days? Long after the phone's gone the photo's remain and you'll curse yourself for not getting the best camera.

  • +5

    JB sells Xiaomi??

    • +6

      Apparently, yes

      • What HK mean in title

        • +3

          Hongkong

        • If I had to have a guess it is Hong Kong stock and shipped from there also.

    • They probably need to fill in the hole left by Huawei. Is this mean that Xiaomi is good and unrestricted with their OS? What about future updates?

      • I think Xiaomi is safe for now, they focus on consumer electronics unlike Huawei.

  • Isn't it 1.2k at JB?

  • Silly question but would this get 5G coverage with the recent Boost deals, depending on location obviously?

GOT A PRICE MATCH AT JBHIFI!

  • +1

    amazing price for 5G

  • +2

I have a postpaid plan with Telstra and seems like I could benefit from 5G.

Does 5G come in different bands as 4G? I recall there was a notorious band 28 in 4G phones which seemed quite important, so I wonder if there is a same story with 5G phones bought from overseas?

  • Using this phone, would the JB 12 MTH deals have access to Telstra 5G until June 20?

    • +1

I don't think the jb Telstra deals have the free access to 5G like the standard Telstra plans.

  • +1

I'm so tempted… one of the things holding me back is how well the slider is gonna work with third party cases.

I cracked my trusty Mi Mix 2 twice in a couple of months, so I'd want something that would give more protection than the standard hard shell case that comes with the phone.

  • +2

I wish this phone had some IP raiting

    • +1

Ahhh didn’t pick up on that! Thanks!

  • Thinking of selling my s10e for this beast, apart from ip68, there is nothing else to lose, what do you guys think, should I switch or not?

    • -1

      I say switch

    • Depends how much you get for it

      • Around $600, i'd probabaly get the 64g version too of the mix 3 ($529) because I barely have any apps on my phone and I store most of the data on cloud.

    • The software is love it or hate it. I bought a Mi Mix 2S but couldn't get used to the software.

Sold it and went to OnePlus 6. The build quality on the Mi Mix 2S was noticeably better than the OnePlus.

      • I used the mi 8 and the gestures are pretty smooth but yea MIUI definitily is not for everyone.

      • +2

I just use Nova on my 9t

      • +1

I use evie launcher on my Mi Mix 2S with gestures. Not sure why people ditch a phone/brand when they don't like the UI when there are multiple very good free or very cheap launchers available for each and every flavour. It's at least free and painless to try them out anyway.

    • +2

S10E would have better software support and better camera

  • Wow! Nice

    • +30

I kind of like the idea of someone showing interest in my rather average life.

      • Have any nude pics?

    • What's to worry about? The first comment goes along "If there is any Chinese tech company that I'd share my dickpics with, it's Xiaomi."

    • +3

as opposed to google and apple spying with their always listening assistants? or your ISP and the australian government spying given that there are no laws protecting net neutrality in Australia? can't apply an internet filter without being able to see what is in the data streams.

      • CCP spying can get you in trouble if their social credit system takes account of your speech. Millions of the Chinese mainlanders have been restricted to buy train tickets there, due to their participation in local protests and online speeches. On the other hand, google and apple would not put you to those troubles I guess?
        sauce

        • At this point you have to ask yourself if you'd really actually want to travel with China with everything that's happening though..

          • @zappy32: Hong Kong is now governed by CCP members, and with continously reducing autonomy. Maybe I'm skeptical, but one day when we travel to Japan or South Korea and transfer to a second flight in the Hong Kong airport, we need to first review ourselves and check if there's any reason the CCP would arrest us when using any Chinese brand phone or even software.

            • @Buffet Squirrel:

we need to first review ourselves and check if there's any reason the CCP would arrest us when using any Chinese brand phone or even software.

              Interesting. Please explain more?

              • @BuyNow Think Later: China may have back door to Chinese brand phones, such as Huawei and Xiaomi. I think you may be familiar with this when doing research before buying a phone. Apps like WeChat is monitored by CCP. source

                • @Buffet Squirrel:

Apps like WeChat is monitored by CCP.

Well, they're going to have their hands full monitoring 1.3 billion people, let alone the non-chinese.

        • +1

Nothing is off the table, Google and apple would probably have to provide their information to the US government and subsidiaries if requested.

ISPs also have access to the same data unless Google and apple are encrypting their transmissions to and from your device. Think back to when ISPs were required to supply information on those who downloaded the Dallas Buyers Club movie.

          • @DangerNoodle: I totally agree with you, but my point is that if CCP identifies a person’s speech or behaviour that is against the CCP, chances are CCP will send someone to find and threaten that person. Even saying president Xi is shxt counts.
However, I don’t think the US government would do things similar even if someone said they support 911. Of course, if the ISP connects with the CCP, that would be a completely different story.

            • @Buffet Squirrel: Kill you by accident would be far easier and simple, especially outside China or HK, i.e. there are so many Chinese, at least half of them have connections to CCP, so CCP can command them to kill you if you dare say 3 times bad about Xi. Just try it but flee to US immediately, Trump may protect you, or just dump you to Erdogan.

              • @Jamesx: Pretty sure Trump's not protecting anyone.

It's best to just carry a gun on you at all times. In case them nasty CCP show up. You never know who they might be disguised as. They have agents that are white and look so innocuous. They could look like someone's mother. That's how insidious the CCP are. You turn your back and it's lights out.

Source: I have had to defend myself against a granny who looked harmless but was a CCP agent. She was tougher than she looked.

What kind of trouble can you find yourself in as an Aussie? Curious.

  • This or one plus 7?
    Dual SIM on this one?

    • want to know as well.
For me dual sim is a necessity.

      • Likewise. Really don't want to be carrying two phones on site (personal/work).
Is the first time in my career I've needed to worry about it, so dual SIM is a major feature for me.
Otherwise I'm happy to return to OnePlus, had the 1 and 2, but nothing since.

This is tempting, but like so many Australians I still can't get any sort of usable mobile phone signal where I live, despite the nearest tower last year being "upgraded". It went from 3G to 4G apparently, but still provides no coverage where it's needed. Looks like it would be a very attractive paper weight though! :-)

  • I checked Xiaomi’s HK website and did not see that they are offering 5G variant for Mix 3. Strange…

    • Chinese stores usually buy their stock in China and ship to HK for tax purposes ;)

  • I want to cancel my 9T pro which I bought a few hours ago, on eBay.

Anyone can advise how can I do that?

    • +1

Contact the seller and hope that the seller agrees to cancel.

      • yep, did that. See what he replies and when.

He didn't mark it as payment accepted yet so …

Not sure if I want to cancel, looking at specs now at 9T Pro over this, battery life is not decent at all and looses jack.

  • +8

Use code CART3 for extra 3% off

  • +3

Careful with Toby Deals, I bought a MI 9T off them and didn't hear anything for 2 weeks, so i emailed them looking for my tracking number and they told me they had no stock…got a refund and got one from the Xiaomi ebay store…

    • +2

I think it depends. They are not very responsive I agree but I never had issues during my two smart watch and a phone purchase. The phone value was 800 and watches were 200 each. Then again you got PayPal protection too on the plus side

    • I bought a 9T back in May and it shipped out and arrived very quickly. At least they responded and gave you a refund when you contacted them.

  • +1

Is 5G really that necessary… Most people are either in the office or at home on Wi-Fi and being sold 5G down their throat like its the new sliced bread… Marketing has worked wonders it seems.

    • +3

5G is revolutionary, it's not a marketing thing, it could and probably will replace wired communications, it has the latency, speed and reliability, the only issue is it demands a good link and close cell towers to even function

    • Yes, it is, I really dont want to pay $90 for nbn 100bmps when I can get 400mbps on 5g broadband for $70 (optus 5g).

      • and you can also carry that 400mbps connection anywhere if you are moving houses or anything, no more contacting nbn support

    • 4G is getting nearly useless at major train stations in Melbourne CBD at peak hour.

    • People said the same thing about 4G, it's not "necessary" but it's clearly better technology. The failure of NBN means 5G will be even more important in Australia for a lot of people.

    • 5G range is poor. It's ideal application should be for high density usage areas (ie. packed stadiums, train stations, etc.).
Apparently of little use for users outside the CBD unless transmitters are situated on power poles…

  • How is the resale value if you don't end up liking it? I am temped to try this phone

  • +1

Black too (nicest phone I’ve seen I think):
