Harry Potter Paperback Boxed Set: Adult Edition (~$52 AUD Delivered)

460

Hi Guys,

Was looking for a cheap Harry Potter bookset and stumbled upon this. This is the "adult edition" which basically has different covers.

Great books - no doubt with the last edition of the movie being out - will be a popular read.

Worked out to be ~$52 on Credit Card (selected the free shipping option).

Please feel fee to comment.

Not that movies replace books and just an observation, but you can buy almost all the movies for less.

Does it contain anything which two people sitting on a bigw wonderchair can read together?

well in true ozbargain style you want to compare the hours of enjoyment elicited vs. cost and books win hands down. much bigger plotline, keeps you busy for weeks instead of hours.

      • +8

In that case wouldn't you want the one which takes up the least time, that way you can move on to the next bargain. ;)

takes a bite out of tim tams in one hand and pours shapes into mouth with the other

Wait, you forgot to mention the Milo that you bought with the Staples $20 vouchers!

        • +4

Any true Ozbargainer would eat the 2 cent glue sticks from Kmart.

  • +8

adult edition = kinky and explicit content only suitable for adults ;)

  • +1

Is $52 cheap for the set?

    • +8

      it comes in a box!!!

    • +1

      cheapest according to booko.com.au

    • Yes - I had a look at BigW/Fishpond and a few others and most were around the $80-85 mark. I thought this was a genuine deal - but happy to be corrected :)

  • Hard cover edition is about double the price, not worth it right?

    • +18

They look nicer on the shelf but the larger ones are cumbersome to read in bed, they're heavy and can break your nose if you drop one on your face.

      • +1

Are you sure you are actually 'reading' your books?

  • +13

Adult edition: really hope Hermione is on one of those covers ;)

    • +10

yeap, definitely the later ones. A big no no to the first few.

  • I got that set and the top front of the collector box was broken (ripped outwards) could have been customs not sure as it didn't look opened. Kinda sucked but really got it for the books and they were fine, hope the same doesn't happen to you.

    Errrrr ummmm eeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrr

Here I am thinking, is this a DVD or a Blu-Ray set?!?!?
    haha oops

    • "Paperback" should have been the giveaway.

      • lol i assume pirated dvds found at markets are 'paperbacks', the ones that come in the basic paper and plastic screen packets.

  • Got all the local release HP books, would have got this if it was the Hard Covers

    • The hardcovers are $100 about $15 a book. Not bad in my opinion.

Good deal, but according to a review the paper and printing isn't as good as the child edition?

"Although the front cover art-work on the adult editions is more attractive (to me, as an adult), the print is terrible in comparison (tiny, blocky font on cheaper/rougher paper), and sadly makes the books feel very cheap."

I don't really mind about the covers so I picked up the child edition box set for the same price.

  • I think this is great. Stoked that it is delivered!

bought this in Nov 2010 for $83, really good books to spend some time
The adult cover version is OK as the story was all I cared about (and it's the cheapest I could find at that time),
but now I have to say the original cover version is more.. attractive / suitable, as it's children's books afteral

    good bargain anyway

    Hermione <3 ;)

  • Bargain~ala~Zamoweeeee

"wouldnt it be better to wait for the last movie then buy the REAL full set"

    • ???? This is the Full set, they are Books not movies

      • +1

They made books from the movies?

  • +2

Why do they call it adult version when there's no adult content involved, there should instead be normal version and kid's version!

    • Because they want to target different markets, people who think that the books are for kids.

Normal and kid version wouldn't make any sense either. They are already suitable for kids so why dumb it down further?

      • Never said anything about dumbing it down further. It's just misleading to call something "adult edition" when there's no sex, nudity, violence or foul language to justify that classification.

  • +1

Apparently the difference with the adult version is that there is more wand play involved.

  • Cheap for brand-new books. But Harry Potter books are op-shop staples.

I've picked up a set at an average of $1-3 a copy. Sure, they might not be the 'adult' versions, but who cares!

    • My local library had a few copies of Deathly Hallows in the ex-rental pile - selling for $2 each. Not perfect condition though.

  • -2

It's been this price for the past couple of weeks, hardly a bargain, but whatever.
Like shawn_low said though, they're a few dollars at op shops, and if you're buying the paperback adult editions i wouldn't say it's worth $52.
Better off spending $100 and getting the hardcover 'children's' editions.

  • Awesome find!! Now to wait for the adult movie edition of Harry Potter

  • Adult version: Chuck Norris dubs over Daniel Radcliff's squeaky voice.

    • +1

Compared to Chuck Norris, anyone's voice would be squeaky.

  • +3

I got the child edition and the adult edition just to check there are no differences in the text!

    • +1

+1 for IT Crowd reference. :D

  • One of my favorite book alums

  • Can't wait for the Adult Edition of the Harry Potter movies! I'll probably grab it off Amazon UK or something lol.

    • +4

      Hmmm.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Horn
Harry Potter and the Chamberpot of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of the Arse's Ram
Harry Potter and the Giblets of Desire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phallus
Harry Potter and the Bukkake Prince
Harry Potter and the Deathly Swallows Parts 1 and 2

(ok. in my defence, it's the end of the day and the aircon is bad here :)

      • +1

        In my office now, Potter.

        • +1

          Spoiler alert

          You are dead Prof. Snape

        • Hmm…. a bukkake prince would have made for a much more interesting storyline.

  • +1

How many books are there? I normally pay about $3-5 each for paperback novels from those end-of-run stands that come and go.

3407 pages = about 1.5 cents per page.

    EDIT:

    Seven.

About $7.40 per book. Not bad, not bad.

  • Good deal.

Note the "Harry Potter Signature Edition" Boxset is also essentially the same price:

Not sure if quality is different, probably just different cover design.
