If I have a pair of these at 2400MHz and buy a pair of these at 3200MHz, will the 3200MHz one work in unison? ie. is it backwards compatible with respect to the bus speed? Note: The motherboard supports only 2400MHz.

No reason they shouldn't if you're using Zen 2. Zen 1/ Zen+ you may not hit the rated XMP speed.
