Free Web App for Estimating Buyback Value of Used IKEA Furniture - Give Your IKEA Furniture a Second Life

210

Looking to part with your old IKEA furniture? If it’s still in good condition, give it a second life and minimise the contribution to landfill.
Follow the steps to obtain an estimate of your furniture’s buy-back value.
Then bring your assembled IKEA furniture, together with your estimate, to your preferred IKEA store.
An IKEA co-worker will assess the furniture in person, then give you the final agreed value as an IKEA buy-back refund card.
Your furniture will then be resold to a new home via our AS-IS department.

The following categories of products are not currently eligible for the Furniture buy-back service:

  • Non-IKEA products
  • Home furnishing accessories including lighting and textiles
  • Add on units and componentry
  • Products that have been used outside including outdoor furniture
  • Mattresses & bed textiles (such as blankets and mattress toppers)
  • Kitchen products including benchtops, cabinets and fronts
  • Modular wardrobes and accessories
  • Electrical appliances
  • Children's and baby products (such as cots, mattresses and changing tables)
Requirements:
  • The IKEA product is complete and unmodified
  • The item needs to be returned clean and completely assembled

Seems like a lot of effort and potential for failure when you realise your Ikea furniture doesn't transport assembled very well.

You'll get annoying hagglers on gumtree but I'm sure you'll save on the effort of transporting it all the way to Ikea.

Hi, I'm interested in "Old IKEA crap". Is this still available? If so, when and where can I pick it up? Cheers.

      • +10

Hi, I know you said "strictly no deliveries", but any chance you could deliver the couch?

        • +5

Hi, what’s your lowest price? Thanks.

          • @[Deactivated]: What's your last price?

            • +2

@angusngon9: Can I have more pics pls?

              • +1

@[Deactivated]: Can you send it by post?

                • +5

@angusngon9: Will you take $5 for it? If so, can you deliver it across the other side of the city for me between 6-8pm on a Tuesday? Thanks.

                  • +1

@pennypincher98: Sure I will pay $50 dollars for it. What? You live 50km away from me? Sorry that's too far for me. I've got kids to take care of.

                  • @pennypincher98: Hi, I'm interested in the ad for "Green terror". Has the animal had all of its shots and do you have all documents? When can I meet "Green terror"?

                    • @[Deactivated]: I've been looking for one of these for ages, can I have it free please? I really need it. You can deliver it to me tonight.

        • Hello. I'd like to come and pick up this item today… No response ever.

  • They'll probably offer you peanuts for it

    • +1

Did that once before, probably got back 20%-30% of the price.
      Product discontinued so can't check.

More certainty and far better than dealing with annoying gumtree buyers who are interested and wants delivery and inspection of a bed frame in 15 minutes.

    Free Web App

This belongs in the forums, it is not a bargain…

  • They charge a $20 click and collect fee.

    • +4

That's got nothing to do with this buy back

    • +1

What about it? it's free over $500, they would likely have to hire a stupid amount of staff to keep up with the insane demand if it was free and the prices would need to be jacked up to make up for it. Regular stores don't generally have to lug around multiple 50kg boxes of shit for you, Ikea has always been a self serve company, that's the entire premise of it. You do your part, collect it yourself, build it yourself.. save money.

I really like this initiative especially for smaller items.
My 3 tier mini billy gets me $23 and I can trade up for something more suitable.

    • Which is how many % of the original price?

      • +1

About 40% of full price depending on the colour~

  • +2

Don't IKEA offer generous returns? Just take your stuff to the returns desk for a 100% "buyback" rate

    • +1

They probably want us to "forget" this returns policy… :)

    • +2

They do, this is for people who don't have a receipt or it's over 365 days old/they didn't scan a family card to extend the return policy. It's targeting older items that are not really returnable under the return policy but would end up in landfill etc otherwise.

I usually leave furniture on the nature strip and then its gone within an hour to a new home.

    Less hassle and less landfill

    • +3

I'm still lamenting the demise of annual council hard rubbish pick-up weekend.

    • Totally true, but also less $ for you.

      • Time and petrol to drive down there?
What actually fits in The car assembled that id worth any money?

This sounds lovely and green and warm and fuzzy.

Good on them, optics are king in society.
        But please, nah

  • +3

    Thanks, bought 6

    Gumtree. Far less hassle

  • +3

Not too bad for some items that are completely flooded in Gumtree.
I'm trying to sell my 10 years old ikea coffee table and I got zero interest from Gumtree, and I just found out IKEA is offering me a buyback price higher than I asked for.

  • IKEA will become like a cash converter

    • +1

Just pick up off the street and bring to IKEA!

      • +1

        Instant profit and side hustle!

Awesome initiative! I've just moved house and have a few IKEA items to sell, give away, or throw away.

This will be a handy option as an alternative to gumtree/ziilch/landfill, and also offers a good price guide for used IKEA items.
