Note that it's 2 x 20V, so the mower will cost $120 more for two batteries and a charger. Unless you have that already.

    • Isn’t it just $80 more?

      20V 4.0AH Battery $39.99
      20V 2.0AH Battery and charger kit $39.99

      • $80 if you go for the 2.0 Amp… for 4.0 amp if you need a charger it’s $80 plus whatever the charger costs. If you’re implying to go for a single 2.0amp and a single 4.0amp then no, you need both to be the same capacity.

        • Oh wow, didn’t realize you can’t mix the different amps. That’s a huge additional cost :-(

          • @ozbmm: I mean to be honest I know nothing about these electric lawnmowers so it’s possible they can compensate with circuitry, but as far as batteries go, if they are connected together you need them to match outputs / max current draw etc. or you will have issues.

        • +1

Or just get two sets of 2.0AH and charger kit to save $40?

          • @ozbmm: The 2.0AH comes with charger. So it makes no sense that they would structure it so customers would have to buy 2 chargers. Makes more sense that you can use the 2.0AH and 4.0AH together I reckon

        • There should be no issue mixing capacity (ie) Amp hours

There is no reason why the battery capacity needs to be matched.

One will just run out before the other.

You may have Amp Hours confused with Amps

          • @dwillia: It’s definetly. possible I’ve missunderstood - that said, for it to be higher amp hours, it’s going to have a higher capacity per cell and therefore for all things being equal, a higher max draw rate. (assuming these are multicell / lipo layered.

Already posted here I suppose it's not in the title though

  • Not to be confused with Xfinity, an absolutely awful ISP.

  • What does 'skin' mean?

I'm looking at getting the hedge trimmer so that we might be able to cut the top of tall hedges without struggling with ladders.

Just the tool, no battery or accessories included.

  • what kind of mow time / edging time do these get per battery?

  • Wonder how this one compares to the previous Ferrex one (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478908) in terms of value for money.

  • +2

Hope Bunnings will price match these soon.

  • So really this mower comes to $258.98 just to get it started.

With the 4Ah batteries it would be: $298.97, you'd also get a 2ah battery which you cant use lol.

They really didn't think things through ☹️

You need to be really careful of Aldi, many products have around a $100 markup in them. We bought a rocking chair for $199, discounted 2 weeks later to $99.
Worked out over a 2 month period my losses were at over $180 had I just waited for them to discount the items, which they did on all occasions.

    • You run the risk of selling out on bargain items though but yes I’ve it too.

      • You see, we're lucky. We have 4 Aldi's within a 15 min drive of each other. So odds are greater.

  • Is it really much better than the Ryobi cordless 18V 4A from Bunnings $299?

How long would the battery last?

    • +1

      Ryobi vs Xfiniti
      18V vs 40V
      33cm vs 37cm cutting width
$299 vs $$259 (or $299 depending on battery)

So I bit the bullet and bought one. Been looking at Battery Mowers for a long time, but couldn't commit due to the cost/return value ratio.

Easy enough to put together. Batteries come mostly pre-charged and indicates it takes about 2 hours to fully charge a 4Ah battery. Requiring the two for this mower, that would mean a 4-5 hour turnaround time with a single charger, allowing cool down time etc. Might be a limiting factor, unless you bought two charger sets. You'd also have the two 2Ah batteries then.

Just done my yard which is probably about 300-350sqm of lawn of varied quality. 75% wintergreen couch out front on flat and hilly surface. 15% buffalo in a courtyard area and 5% random grass/weeds. There were a few occasions that it struggled through some really thick areas and I varied the mower level between 1(lowest) and 3) out of 7 levels. ie. It only clonked out once, but I did need to guide it through some patches. To be fair, those sections are the main distribution point of my septic field, so the grass is vibrant green in that area (by design).

It did give a nice cut, was very light to maneuver and easy to pick up the entire unit, although a little awkward initially. You could feel the 'engine' adapting the power requirements when it hit somewhere heavy. Easy enough to turn on. Press button and hold handle. Turns off when handle released.

I used 2x 4Ah batteries and it basically was just able to do my entire yard within the charge. Do have some concern as the battery degrades as to how that will affect run-time, but will have to wait and see. As long as the batteries continue to be available at a reasonable price, should be ok.

I compared it to the following models when purchasing.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-lithium-36v-4-0ah-16-lawn-… - $499
You could also compare it to this one.
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ozito-power-x-change-2-x-18v-tel… $399

    Justification for purchase…
My purchase at just under $300 for mower + 2 x 4aH batteries + battery charger & 2ah Battery, allows for me to buy another five 4Ah batteries @$40 each over the life of the product and come out even with the ryobi model listed above. It is worth noting however that Ryobi guarantees 3 years on batteries and 6 years on product.

Someone remind me to post an update in 5 years and I'll tell you if the value proposition worked out :)

    • Thanks heaps for the review, @waving! Had to drive 12km to get one at another store as the two near me ran out before 2pm already.

But the bullet as well. However went with the 2ah and 4ah option. Similar size lawn to the above with similar grass. Similar experience as above. Was only able to cut about 2/3 of the lawn before the juice ran out. Check the 4ah hour battery and it was at 45%. It seems to drain the batteries equally which makes sense. Would recommend and will probably get an extra 4ah battery to double the run time. Besides the battery constraints, for the money it's an amazing little unit. Electrification is a game changer and it's where our world is heading!!

    • Got one based on your review. Been on the fence for this or an Ozito/Ryobi one. Fingers crossed the five years go well too.

Well update 1 day in. The battery charger has failed. Was charging a battery half way through and has just clonked out. No life whatsoever in LED's etc. Will hold my faith and take back to Aldi. Not overly promising though… 58 days to change my mind.

    • Call the helpline, 1300 418 640, tell them the problem, you will get a new charger, free delivery to your home.
Also, you can buy the addtional battery or charger from them, if they have a stock.

      • There were still plenty left at my local stores, so just swapped thankfully. Am slightly nervous about what happens if mower packs it in 2-3 years. Whilst it has a 5 year warranty, so likely no fuss return, the batteries are only one year and are almost half the cost of the mower.

  • I went to 4 stores in Sunday and they all run out. One guy even told me they have run out on Saturday. Was told by customer service some today Baulkham Hills store still has some. And yes as I left the store just now there are 4 lawn mowers left and around 10 4Ah batteries left but no charger. I will have to look for the charger or if I have to buy the 2Ah battery+charger pack instead just for the charger.

  • Anybody knows what's the circuit breaker?

It says the lawn mower won't start without the circuit breaker.

I'm having trouble to start the lawn mower.

    Thanks

    • +1

Hi assuming you are talking about the battery lawn mower, the circuit breaker is that small thing next to lift handle. It's already preinstalled with the lawn mower. I personally found the be lawn mower didn't start time out the batteries wasnt inserted properly. They have to have that'click'sound when you insterted them.

      • I tried again pushing in the batteries more and its working. Thanks for your advice!
