That is its primary purpose…. it is a "drill".

    • yes, technically you can drill holes with an impact driver.

You just won't have any speed adjustments, and will need to use impact driver bits.

      https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-35-piece-impact-ready-dri…

      • Isn't it "3 speed"?

        • yes, but compared to a drill/hammer drill which have like 21 speeds for example.

You're also limited to the type of drill bits as you'll need the hex shank bits

    • It is a multi speed "drill" with "3" gears - as well. It can screw at slow speeds. And, it can be an "impact/hammer" drill. It is ALL, a drill/screw driver/impact driver… go to the Dewalt site and research the item.

    • Better off getting a hammer drill if you need an all-rounder single tool for drilling holes and driving. The hammer part is to tick the masonry part of being an all-rounder.
Hammer drill has enough torque for most DIY type jobs; it just isn't as easy as using an impact driver.

(comment link is broken so just going off the text)

Slow down there…. take a breath… and example of exorbitant price: DeWALT 18V XRP 3 Speed Combi Hammer Drill - $299
https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-xrp-3-speed-combi-ham… where same item on eBay is $149.00…
So with your trade in and credit of $100.00, off the $299.00, leaves you, the ever scrupulous sassy buyer, out of pocket $50.00, plus the $12.00 you spent on an el cheepo to take advantage of this so called offer.

    • yep, take a look at Flickit's comment above, bought from Ebay store and registered online with no issues.

Good deal if you like dewalt but for anyone that dosent mind either way Milwaukee does a straight swap old skin for brand new. 8 piece kit was $1100. 3 old makita skins for 3 brand new Milwaukee plus a 5 piece kit.

Sydney tools generally host these trade specials pretty regularly so keep an eye out

    • That would be the Milwaukee REDemption Day Swap Out I guess:
"Buy a two-or-more-piece M18 cordless kit and you can swap out up to three 18-volt-or-above DeWalt, Makita, Bosch Blue, Hitachi, Hikoki or Hilti tools for heavy duty Milwaukee skins, at no additional cost. Offer limited to 100 skins per store, while stocks last. Batteries, chargers and torches not included. Terms & Conditions apply."

It appears the last one was in April…

  • Milwaukee FTW.

That's wot we use @ work & we flog the shit outta them, have overheated (too hot to touch the gearbox/head) impact drivers screwing off roof sheets into 2 & 3mm steel many times & a year or so later they're still going strong…

  • Who's got their power tools ready for tomorrow? I spotted a cheap $10 drill at cashies so i'm set. Anyone got a good trade in story?

  • I just did it. There was a lot of screwing around because the discount code at Bunnings added $100, rather than discounting it. After a lot of frustrating discussion they just applied the discount manually.

Sydney tools do the $100 off without the trade in, CODE: TRADEUP = $100 OFF, + free delivery…
      https://sydneytools.com.au/search?p=1&q=Dewalt%20TRADEUP

      • Code invalid.

        • Code doesn't work :(

          • +2

@Qbagger: Damn that sucks, sorry, it worked this morning when I posted it… All those items had banners advertising the deal..

Maybe other retailers (or the associates in this thread) have complained about them not following the rules of the deal..

            • @FLICKIT: No probs! I was hoping if I put the hedge trimmer and the blower in the cart and applied the code I would get 2x$100 discount and then claim the fast charger and 6Ah flexvolt battery by redemption (as per the new deal available today!!).

              Will keep trying :)

      • +1

This is the real bargain. $100 off each tool without having to trade anything in. Code works for me.

        • +2

I just tested it also and yep it works again, also works on multiples, $100 off each!

        • +1

The real bargain for me was blower + trimmer+ 6ah battery + charger all for $230!
          Thanks Flickit!

          • @mauricem: Have you had any success with this? The redemption website states in the terms, Not available in conjunction with any other offer. If it works that’s a great deal.

            • @hotrod01: Not yet, haven’t even received tax invoice from st yet. I screenshotted the page which showed the $100 off each tool which also had the battery redemption offer under the blower and trimmer. Which to me indicated that both offers were available. I even asked ST about what I needed for the redemption and they just said the tax invoice.

              • @mauricem: Any luck on extra battery and charger redemption? also the Sydney Tools website is no longer accepting the code online which is a shame.

    • Just had same experience. 4 useless staff with useless instructions, added $100 instead of deduct. Took 30 mins for them to sort it out. Plus the hedger i was looking at was lower then syd tools price so couldn't price beat them :(. Bunnings sneaky $214 price.

Hi, never posted before but I thought I should in this case. Went into my local Bunnings and asked for a price match on the DCD996N-XE against Toolsxpress eBay. Price lowered from $319 to $149.40. Then mentioned the trade-in DeWalt promotion and they applied it. Paid $49.40 for a new drill. Few things that helped to make it happen:
    1) Asked for price match first
    2) Chose an established seller and looked up ABN
    3) Asked the staff member to read price match policy (clearly states online prices)
    4) Exclusion of clearance items should not apply unless they can prove its a clearance item. If there is a lot of stock and no mention of a clearance it cannot be assumed that it is. In this case there are multiple eBay sellers around the same price so the clearance exclusion would be unreasonable to apply
    4) The price match was a policy issue while the $100 off was a promotion. They are not the same thing and should both be applied
    5) Know their price match policy and ask them to read it if they add exclusions verbally. Correct the staff patiently when necessary.

    Good luck!

It worked I got two lol traded in a old Kmart arlec drill driver and a dead Ryobi one+ sander $22 each scored. The rep from DeWalt was doing the deal with the Bunnings staff to lol

        • -1

Just got two more impact drills and 3x drills. Love this promo. Heap of dramas involved in getting the correct pricing today though as I had to go to another store for stock.

          • @BilboBargains: And it’s people like you who take the piss that ruin things for everyone else

            • -1

@charedblack: Lol your just jealous you didn't have anything to trade in and get the deal. you do realise I have not done anything wrong, it's all above board and ok by Bunnings and DeWalt.

    • Anyone else tried this and had any luck?

Always found trying to obtain legit price matches an ordeal, let alone something like this.

      • +1

I tried to price match at Artarmon - they refused to price match eBay.
Several different staff got involved and in the end they said they never match eBay.

        • +2

Wouldn’t be a price match at Bunnings without half the stores staff huddling around you trying to pick holes in in your claim! Thanks for the update.

      • You can try this store which is based in Melbourne…$159 and classified as a brick and mortar shop.

Wife wants to buy me a multi tool for xmas. I already have dewalt batteries, however it looks like I could get an ozito multi tool with battery and a circular saw, and still have $50 saved in comparison to getting the dewalt. Only going to be used around the house, does anyone have any feedback on how to much better the dewalt is?

    • Got both, the Ozito is a toy compared to the bigger, heavier DeWalt. The Ozito is OK for smaller stuff, but if you want to do some serious work around the house I'd go for the DeWalt. The DeWalt also has a light which can help with some jobs. Not sure about the Ozito battery fitting other skins as I've only got their multi-purpose tool.

  • Can anyone confirm, can you trade in a drill and get anything on the list? EG. trade in a drill and get a dewalt hedger with $100 off? The terms and conditions say one for one, whatever that means.

    • Yes. Trade in any eligible tool, and get $100 off any tool on the list.

  • +2

One of the ways Bunnings scams the customers with Makita power tools is that Bunnings has their own model numbers so you can’t price match with other sellers as model number will be different. Does Dewalt do the same thing ?

Btw I did catch Bunnings once when they had the real model number for a makita tool on their web site rather than the dodgy Bunnings custom model number 😀. They price matched and I got makita tool that was listed at Bunnings for nearly $300 for about $130 …

    • Yup, exactly the same. Bunnings models didn't end with'XE' and as a result, I couldn't price match. :<

  • Have a couple of old Ozito grass (non working, no batteries) trimmers free if anyone wants to try their luck for the $100 trade in discount.

    Cranbourne, Victoria.

    DM me if interested.

  • If anyone needs a 5.0ah 18v battery and charger to go with their skin you may want to consider the 18v line trimmer kit as its on special and works out cheaper than just the trimmer skin. So you pretty much pay just over a 100 bucks for the trimmer after taking the battery and charger into account. https://www.bunnings.com.au/dewalt-18v-xr-brushless-line-tri…

    • Can also try the angle grinder promo kit for $199 sydney tools. Includes the charger and 5ah battery.

      • Do you have a link for that?

Hi again, here is a link to the purchase receipts and product. Some people need to have more faith!

    https://drive.google.com/open?id=16uKz_nBTHn2MFDNcaHCtVWPfq-…

Please note that I will not reveal which store I purchased it from as I do not want the assistant, who did the right thing honouring their policy and the promotion, to be punished. Ultimately it is up to every customer to assert their rights and hold the store to account. Their price match policy does not state Ebay as an exclusion - this is a verbal addition to their exclusions which constitutes avoidance of their most fundamental promise to customers. Fortunately the staff I spoke to were reasonable and saw that it was the correct think to do based on the promises of the retailer. No one forced them to promise the best prices - make them fulfil their promise. I'm not suggesting being unreasonably assertive but just making sure you communicate what your rights are and their obligations.

The reality is all retailers make promises they do not want to honour and achieve this by making staff fearful of the wrath of the bosses when they actually, GOD FORBID, implement what the retailer has promised. I was very aware of this when I went to Bunnings today and knew that the staff member was in a vulnerable position - I therefore recommended they price match against the most established Ebay retailer and note down their ABN. It took some time but he spoke to his colleagues and their was mutual agreement that they had no choice but to honour it. If a horde of staff harasses and/or intimidates you, note down the number of people, what they have said, their names (if possible) and detailed notes of your experience. The more powerful their push back the greater their misrepresentation of your rights.

Unfortunately this kind of push back and even intimidation from staff happens not only with unrealistic promises but also in relation to statutory rights. I believe that the larger the company is the more they can just dismiss complaints of a failure as 'staff incompetence' when in reality the staff are pressured to push back when customers assert themselves. They rely on their in store staff to obfuscate these promises and obligations and wear the customer down until these rights are diminished and promises unfulfilled. But, one of the worst things that a retailer can do is to misrepresent your rights in relation to store policies and statutory rights.

For example, I bought a pair of earphones for my wife from JB Hi-Fi. My wife tried them on and none of the included buds were small enough for her ears, so they could not be used. I took them back to JB and the first assistant confidently asserted that they could not accept a return for change of mind and hygiene reasons. I simply replied that the box states earphones, pictures the earphones being worn by a human being, that they do not fit in her ears and are therefore not fit for use. She referred me to her manager who said that he would 'do me a favour' and accept a return. I advised him that he was not doing me a favour, that it was my right to return them and it is the retailer and manufacturer's problem as to what to do with the returned item as the earphones were not fit for use. I also strongly advised him that I have been a participant in ACCC investigations before and misrepresentation of consumer rights is pretty much the worst thing a retailer can do. Of course, the retailer if called up would just dismiss it as an isolated case of a staff member/members being unaware. Of course it is very difficult to co-ordinate a widespread test of a retailer's response to consumers asserting their rights so these retailers depend on unspoken internal policies where staff push back against consumers to save them money.

Whenever I get into these situations I never raise my voice or assert myself in any way that is rude or unreasonable as this gives them a basis for asking you to leave. The more reasonable and patient you are the more difficult it is for them. If a retailer fails to fulfil their obligations (whether it be promotional promises or statutory rights) I simply take down extensive notes relating to all the staff members, the reasons for their refusal etc etc. I essentially document the failure and then submit it to the relevant regulator for investigation. A pet hate of mine is retailers misrepresenting consumer rights because SO many people, especially those with poor English skills, the overly trusting people out there (I have been one) and the vulnerable, are unable to stand up for themselves or believe what they hear. These retailers rely on people trusting them and backing down. I prefer to make them accountable.

Anyway, sorry for the long post. Once again, good luck!

Please note I won't be posting again due to it being very time consuming so apologies if I do not reply, but if I find another deal worth posting in the future I will do so. All the best.

    • +1

Pity we just cannot show a screenshot here hey.

When I get negative responses over returning an item with faults etc. I find I am less inclined to buy anything of real value from them ever again. It is the shops that have polite and reasonable staff that I return to time and again. I have rarely had to return items but when I have need to I don't need further hassles.

just back from bunning taylors lake , vic. they refused to price match and trade off together. they used this to get excuses “ not in conjunction with any other offer’’ . they said i can choose price match or $100 off trade off, not two together:( . waste an hour there for them to check and multi call to manager.

    • +2

Unfortunately they misled you. The price match is a policy (not a promotion) while the $100 credit is a promotion. It would be the equivalent of them not allowing you to return an item (policy) because you got it on promotion.

  • The Impact driver can possibly be price matched cheaper at Bunnings if you want to try your luck?
    https://www.justtools.com.au/dewalt-18v-lithium-ion-brushles…
    For sale here at $159

  • I also managed to get the hedge trimmer and leaf blower from Sydney tools online without needing to hand in a s/h tool… and they also have another promo if you buy 2 OPE (gardening)Skins you can redeem a 6ah battery and charger…. so will be giving this ago.

    • Could you pleaee point me to the redemption promo for buying these two and redeem the battery? Sounds like a perfect deal.

      • +2

        Here you go:
        https://sydneytools.com.au/product/dewalt-dcm563pb-xe-18v-xr…

On the picture it has the item for redemption.

        • One other stupid question, when you ordered online they only send you an email with order confirmation, not a receipt. Did you just use the email for the redemption or did you wait for receipt?

          • @Tekno-Man: I’m waiting for shipping confirmation before I try the redemption… I believe once it ships you receive an invoice.

            • @kirock81: Thanks @kirock81, I did the same thing this morning, invoice sent after dispatch. Cheers

              • @Tekno-Man: I got the approval for my redemption today….. should be delivered within 7-14 days… has yours come through?

        • Thanks all. Must have been looking with my eyes closed. Cheers

      • +2

A quick update - I purchased the blower & trimmer via Sydney Tools on Saturday - logged my redemption claim using the Paypal receipt also on Saturday. Just received an email from Dewalt today saying my claim is approved.
        Brilliant :-)

        • Well done, Aww damn for me, sydney tools code no longer working online :(

          • @hotrod01: Give them a call the store may be able to assist.

          • @hotrod01: Just keep checking…. when I first went to do it, it wasn’t working, but then checked the site later in the day and there it was…

            • @kirock81: Spoke to them this arvo, they said in store only is the only way now(;

  • So I scuttled off to Bunnings with this deal in mind. In short I was told I'd end up spending over $300. Or I could buy a Ryobi for 2/3 the price with batteries! Then I got to wondering if I could simply replace the batteries in my ancient Ryobi cordless. Answer - looks very like YES. For about $45.

So thanks to this post, I'm sticking with the old unit and spending way less than $100.00 - thanks OP and Ozbargain!

  • I tried the price match and then 100$ off the impact driver and bunnings wouldn't have a bar of it. Saying that with the $100 off they are cheaper ect. Owell

    • Unfortunately they misled you. The $100 off is a Dewalt promotion available across multiple retailers, not a Bunnings price discount. I'm amazed at what the staff will make up to get their employers off the hook.

      • I said this but they argued that the retailer I was price matching with didn't have this trade in promo running.

        • +1

In this case the staff member was a touch smarter than those who just make stuff up. The fact of the matter though is that the Bunnings price match policy and DeWalt promotion function entirely independently of one another. The DeWalt promotion does not lower the Bunnings price, it is a DeWalt discount off the price. The DeWalt promo and the Bunnings price match policy are not mutually exclusive and it does not matter that the price match is against a retailer not offering the promo. The price is the price and the policy is to match it. There is no court in this land that would agree to the notion that the Bunnings price is $100 less because of the DeWalt promotion. DeWalt makes specific reference to $100 off 'the price' (whatever it may be) and the Bunnings policy is to have the lowest 'price' (independent of this promotion). The false logic of the staff member is made clear when one considers that it renders the DeWalt promo of literally no value ie. the price match policy would be valid every other day of the year that the promo were not running so not applying the promo after also matching price makes the promo worthless and false advertising

          • +1

@Randomstranger: I can completely confirm this to be correct as I price matched an item yesterday, however it required talking to the branch manager and clearly stating the same thing as Randomstranger mentioned. Much thanks to Randomstranger for helping me yesterday.

Been member for a long time but never posted much, however the whole price matching experience annoyed me enough to post =)

      • True, but I’ll bet the participating retailers kick in a bit towards that $100 one way or the other!

  • +1

Just wanted to bolster what @Randomstranger has already confirmed.

Was able to price match a DCF887 driver. And proceeded to purchase a cheap $20 screwdriver to use against a DCD996 driver.

Both successfully were price matched and then the $100 credit applied.

  • +2

Managed to both price beat and redeem the $100 tradeup offer at a Bunnings store in QLD.

I bought 3x cordless drill from a nearby Cashies for $15 total plus an old cordless drill I had from home.

    I bought the following:

    1 - $199 887 impact driver 10% price beat against $135 Ebay seller
    $135 less 10% less $100

    2 - $299 355 oscilating tool 10% price beat against against $179.95 Ebay seller
    $179.95 less 10% less $100

    3 - $214 562 blower price beat against $199 Ebay seller
    $199 less 10% less $100

    4 - $215 563 hedge trimmer price beat against $199 Ebay seller
    $199 less 10% less $100

    So all up got 4x brand new dewalt tools that retail total about $927 (199 + 299 + 214 + 215) in Bunnings and paid only about $240 (24 + 60 + 80 + 80)

I have also put in the redemption for the 6amp battery and charger with Dewalt for purchasing 2x of the landscaping range. No idea if it will get through but no harm giving it a go.

I was lucky to get both the price beat and redemption. The staff at the bunnings tool shop and customer service counter was only going to do either one. But I did reason it with them about the Ozbargain comment about store pricing policy is separate and independent of the dewalt tradeup offer. They called the store manager and got the go ahead to honour both. I did get a slight hiccup as the Ebay price beat needed to have a brick and motar store for pickup. Luckily the tools I chosen was either available for in store pickup or click and collect.

An incredible deal if you are able to pull it off at your local Bunnings store. Good luck to those attempting it. No guarantee that it will work for you as mentioned by many in the thread.

    • Damn!!!! That’s a score of a lifetime from Bunnings of all places!!

      • +1

I did get confirmation of the redemption approval for the free 6amp battery and charger for purchasing 2 of the landscaping cordless tools. This has made the deal even sweeter.

  • Has anyone who ordered from Sydney Tools with the TRADE UP code actually received a shipping email or tax invoice?

I ordered both the hedge trimmer and blower on Friday afternoon and both were clearly marked 'in stock'. I just rang to confirm the order had been shipped but was unfortunately told they are on back order with no firm ETA. Really disappointed and concerned the order may be cancelled but will watch this space and report back.

Keen to hear if anyone else has had a similar issue with Sydney Tools online purchase?

    • We got a tax invoice but had to request it. This was for the blower and trimmer.
The invoice said dispatched but on the phone the girl said something about the blower being out of stock. I can't imagine DeWalt were too happy with them!

      • Thanks for the reply. Has your trimmer arrived?

        • +1

No, they don't want to double ship I guess. Called up to check and they were adamant they would both be ready early next week. Sounds like you'll get your order ok.

    • I purchased on Saturday and I got my invoice which was marked as despatched on Monday.
Haven’t received them as yet, but have done the redemption for the battery and charger which came back as approved today.

      • We got confirmation of redemption today as well. Wonder if anyone who purchased from retailers other than Sydney tools has been successful? I believe the way ST worded the Information about the trade up with no mention of a dewalt promotion left either dewalt or Sydney tools no option but to honour the redemption.

      • All I got from Sydney Tools was an email with an order number. Not really a tax invoice as there is no ABN on it.

I have submitted a screenshot of the email anyway for the fast charger and flexvolt battery and will cross my fingers.

Cheers all for your updates :)

Got my battery and Charger in the mail today. Wahoo.
