  • Probably doesn't support NBN hence the price

    • ?? Most wireless routers don't "support" the NBN.

      • +9

Why would a router care how you are connected to the internet?

        • I don't know, but it does. My Telstra Gateway Max worked with AussieBB but fails with Superloop - and I've seen multiple reports of this.

    • Just use the router component since you'd already have an NBN modem if you're on the NBN.

      • +3

If you already have an NBN modem, there's a good chance it is also a router.

        • Idk they advertise them as "nbn ready" haven't cared to research what that means

          • +1

@Wilder94: That means the 'modem' part of the device.
The router will work as a router regardless.

If you're on HFC, you don't need a modem, just a router.

        • Could use it to extend the wifi.

          EDIT: apparently not.

          • @smartazz104:

Could use it to extend the wifi.

            nope

            • @jv: Landfill it is.

            • @jv: All routers can be used to extend right? Just turn off the dynamic dsn?

      • only if you on FTTN, you need to care if the router support nbn or not

  • +1

yehhh non NBN modems are dropping like flies…

Archer D9s can be picked up for $30 on used market…

    • What about people on HFC ?

      • There are still people using dial up.

        • +2

Why would they want to downgrade to NBN then?

        • I use dialup over voip. Can NBN offer better than $20/m for 300bps?

  • +1

Spend $70-$90 per month to get fastest NBN, then skimp on a $5 router???

    • Only as a Router or Access Point, it'd be OK. Presuming it has that functionality…

  • +3

These could potentially be useful for bridging mode access. No USB sort of limits the device for sharing.

  • +2

Looks like a Sega Mega Drive II

  • +1

Can this be used as an wifi extender? please

  • +5

it cannot use as extender. i will buy it for door stopper and kids toys.

    • +1

It's also good for a paper weight.

  • +1

You mean ADSL 2+… Some places still dont have NBN so this might be useful to some and its cheap. Or just use it as a router but I cant think of the need for that right now

    • could be useful for someone who has a modem, but no wifi…

  • +1

Cheaper than a switch. I hope its gigabit atleast. Worst case, I can use its power adapter.

    • Nope not gigabit

      10/100 WAN, 10/100 LAN

  • I saw the manual, it says it can be used in a bridged mode. Wouldn't that mean that it can be effectively used as an extender ?
