If I Return an Item for Store Credit Then Would I Still Get ShopBack Cashback?

I need to return an item to the Iconic that I bought after clicking through the Shopback app.

If I return the item for Store Credit then would I still get the Shopback Cashback?

I bought the item during the 20% cashback promotion, so would prefer to keep the cashback. But if I'm going to lose the cashback anyway then it would be better to just get a cash refund.

The Shopback app is vague about this and just says 'no returns' under "Dont's".

    No you wont.

    Nope -

    Cashback is not qualified for:

    • Promo codes or voucher codes not approved by ShopBack
    • Returns, exchanges & cancellations
    • Purchases using gift cards or store credit
    • Purchases through THE ICONIC App

Yes, I read that, but it doesn't clearly say anything about return for store credit.

If I buy a jacket from Iconic for $100, and I return it for store credit, then $100 has still gone out of my bank account and to the Iconic. Logically, I have still bought 'something' for $100 & should get the Cashback.

I talked to Amex, and they said that as long as I don't get a cash refund from Iconic then I'll continue to keep the statement credit. In theory, the cashback from Shopback should be treated the same way.

The 'exchange' word in Shopback's terms is very silly, anyway. I mean, if I exchange an XXL jacket for an identical XL jacket, then are Shopback seriously going to cancel my cashback ? It's totally ridiculous, if they actually do this.

Here's my interpretation of why cashback doesn't qualify for Returns, exchanges & cancellations.

Shopback is being paid for referring a person to shop at a particular store. Without AI, the simplest way to ensure that the person was actually referred to the store by shopback is to have the entire transaction tracked through cookies. This way shopback has proof that they referred a person and there is no grey area.

When someone returns, exchanges or cancels a purchase. That part of the transaction isn't tracked by shopback. Only the store has proof. Without AI, it would be a logistical nightmare to guarantee that every store credit and exchange is tracked. Some stores do not have a computerised store credit system. Also, what happens if the store doesn't correctly input the store credit or exchange?

Also, what if another service convinces you to purchase an item from a particular store using the store credit. If store credits qualified for cashback what service would get paid. Shopback for the initial purchase or the second service who convinced you to use the store credit?

I've had cashback on returned items and cancelled orders, maybe they slipped through.
