Choice magazine doesn't test Aldi's Australian olive oil. However it says on the bottle it won a silver medal at the 2016 Sydney Fine Food show and a 2018 Bronze medal at the Australian International Olive Awards.
Have you tried this one?
Yes, I buy it regularly. Similar price per litre to this one.
They do test it. They rate it 2nd last, if you're at all inclided to give a shit about what they say. I personally use the Aldi one and it's fine.
ctrl + F and search for Aldi and you'll see it at the bottom in the table.
I have tried the 3l tin and it was very bad quality. Not sure if they regularly change supplier but I'll never buy it again
whats the quality difference between Cobram Classic and Cobram Robust? No testing by Choice on the Robust it seems
Robust generally means there is a more intense/stronger flavor. Usually has more bitterness/pepperness to it as well.
Wish they'd generally test for and publish results of the DMB levels of olive oils .. apparently levels in Italian olive oils are rubbish
https://www.oliveoiltimes.com/olive-oil-health-news/olive-oi…So GOOD that all the top oils tested above, and the deal listed, are Australian?
Cobram Estate or this?
This is made by Cobram but their '2nd tier' range.
Ah, thanks, I thought this is more premium
Cobram. If you are used to Cobram you'll notice the difference on a salad or a bruschetta, but for cooking (not frying) is excellent at this price.
Cold pressed?
All extra virgin olive oils are cold pressed.
NOT too sure about this. Read a report that stated
"If all EVOO was in fact the first pressing, there should be 10-15 million more olive tress worldwide"Nope.
How long does olive oil normally last I'm thinking of storing a couple so we don't have to think about it when it gets historically lowest price aka super cheap in the pantry like we have done for rice, salt and sugar already.
Choice website says "Store your olive oil in a cool, dark place and use within six months."
Extra Virgin Olive Oil apparently unopened and stored in the right conditions away from light and heat in a cool, dark place can be stored for up to 2 years but after opening expires in 2 - 3 months.
So 6 months is probably a good safe rule to go by for most non extra virgin olive oil.
Thanks.
Yep. that is the general rule. Every time you open the bottle oxygen gets in and degrades the quality of the oil.
BB dates are generally set 2Years from pack date. With the new standards being put in to place, it is best to look for a 'harvest date' first over pack/best before date, so you know you are getting the freshest oil.
Keep it in the dark and follow expiry dates on the bottle. Keep in mind you don't know what happened to the bottles from factory to store, especially in summer
^This or Cobram Estate??
Cobram
Cobram hands down for raw use
What's the best oil for frying?
