    Grey imports. No manufacturer warranty.

Pretty decent price actually. After a quick search on eBay it would appear to be the cheapest.

Edit: there is one cheaper http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Canon-Kiss-X4-EOS-550D-EF-S-18-55…

it's also way outdated and crappy

      • +4

Way outdated and crappy? Outdated by what? The 600D which is virtually exactly the same bar a swivel screen and a heftier price tag?

Not a terrible price. I paid $666 from w/ no inclusions or lens a few months ago. If you want to save yourself $$$ then go for a grey import.

IMHO buy second hand from forums.overclockers.com.au or grab a 550D from citiwide for only $576 (+ postage) and then get 2nd hand glass.

And it's bundled with the non-IS lens?

    • +5

Good question - nothing in SS description identifies the 18-55mm lens as IS !

        shopping square strikes again!

  • Pretty cheap, like blaze mentioned. Good deal!

non IS lens, and sitting in some warehouse for a year?

  • can someone advise me a good Digi SLR about the $500 range. I know thats the lower end.

Or would I be better off getting a mid-high non SLR Digital Camera at that price.

I would love the Nikon D90 but thats over double what I wish to spend.

    • Depends on what you will use the camera for :) I love my DSLR, but I do miss the "mobility" (ahhh, almost like choosing between netbook or notebook! LOL).

DSLR in that range would only be the Canon 1000D? Or the older version of this model (for example, 500D or 450D).

      • +3

I recommend at least 500D+ or 1100D+ the screen resolution in the 450D/1000D and below is so low you really cant tell if your photos are in focus unless you see it on a computer.

Canon DSLR ranges are as followed (4 digits to 1 digit):

        XXXXD Entry models
        XXXD Low
        XXD Mid
        XD High End

Major differece between the 500D and 550D is the video capability (500D does 20FPS at 1080p, 550D can do 24/25/30) and sensor (15MP vs 18MP).

Note this deal is for the Rebel series not the proper 550D, the build quality and material is slighty worse than the XXXD series, otherwise funtionality is exactly the same.

        • +1

I would assume Rebel series is the same as proper 550D or other corresponding model.
Only difference is different countries use different model name.

Pentax K-r, best bang for buck at lower price end

    • +2

      Same as my sentiments above.

550D (brilliant image quality, good low light performance, more-than-enough megapixels, decent build quality, beautiful HD recording). If you are planning on doing a lot of video recording then give the 600D a look as the swivel screen will come in handy. I only suggest the 550D as it has video functionality, if this doesn't worry you then go for a second hand 400D/350D for around ~$300 inc. one or two lens' etc.

In all honesty, second hand is the way to go. Try forums.overclockers.com.au and their photography section, always second hand gear going on there and you can pick up a bargain. Otherwise, Grey imports (Canon Kiss X4). They are the same camera, just badged differently as they come from the Asian market.

I just gave my 400D to my girlfriend, otherwise I could have given you a good price. They are a perfectly capable camera - anyone that says "it's outdated and therefore useless" has no clue. All these are shots from my "outdated" 400D: http://www.scottletts.com

    • Dont bother with a brand new entry level model. Look at older semi-pro models that have gone down in price but will still have more bang for buck compared to the entry models. Like compared to the Nikon D90, you could get a Nikon D80 for half the price yet have most of the features that the D90 has.

  • nanananana grey import.

    Not aussie stock.

  • OP (Rep) should put in title that it is the KISS X4. I know that they are essentially the same camera except for the little KISS label on the front but that label seems to consistently make the camera about $40 cheaper compared to the non-KISS (Australian) stock.

$40 is a lot on Ozbargain.

Shouldn't have to click through the link to find it is KISS X4. The ebay page has it in the title, why not the Ozbargain page?
