Subscribe - Options and How Do They Work?

This question has been lurking in my head for a while but I just havent got around looking for answers….

I like to subscribe to posts, so that I get updates when there is one.
Currently there are 3 options: None, New Reply or New Comments.

I understand what "None" is, but not clear what these two are seperated: "New Reply" or "New Comments".
Ideally I'd like update on both.
Am I missing anything?

    new comments = all comments including replies
    new replies = replies to comments you've made
    none = nothing.

    I do wish the subscription options were more clearly worded. This is something that has annoyed me for some time.
