  • I believe this DS-860 has been superceded by the DS-870.

  • Epson vs Fujitsu - what is people's preference?

    • +2

I've got the ScanSnap Fujitsu, has served me well, have had it for 6 years now, it's an amazing machine. Can't comment on this epson though.

      • Same - I got old portable Fujitsu and I am pretty happy with it.
        The scanner itself is great.
But it's an old model and new software (ScanSnap Home?) doesn't support it.

I was always curious if Epson is better (both hardware and software).

  • With no network adapter! Need to buy another $400 adapter for it to be on the network …

  • +4

Got the DS-570W, a brilliant machine and it has wireless built-in.

A no-brainer for a small business, it has totally transformed my scanning productivity; 2 second A4 300DPI scans (it literally spits the paper out the bottom), eats through receipts (you can chose one-button scanning which I have set up for shop receipts), fantastic customisable software- gets rid of paper creases, creates searchable pdf's, enhances text, straightens pages and much more.

Probably not as durable as the 8 series for heavy office use but i have scanned thousands of pages and it's still superb.
Epson also regularly update the software about every 4-6 months.

The only negative with these type of scanners is you have to keep the glass covering the two scan heads very clean because any dust or particles on them will show as a long thin line the whole way down the scanned picture.

  • I had a HP like this and it was terrible. Admittedly that was a very long time ago (10 years? second gen model IIRC). The feeder only liked the most pristine of pages, making it useless.
