No, that’s a spin-off from another burger joint

      • Thanks Op, and cheers for the bonus $8 GoCashBack, a new sign up for me too lol.

    • THis cashback site still hasnt recorded my purchase yet. I've already received the SIM in the mail lol…

      • Did you manage to get cashback? Mine got rejected and Boost Mobile is no longer showing on their site.

  • If I recharge with the 365 day $150 recharge (80 GB) will the 15GB apply for the first recharge at least?

    • Computer says No

    • Please see my post here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/440667?page=8#comment-7253…

In summary, if this prepaid pack gives you 20GB + 15GB bonus, when you recharge with the $150 365 day plan, the 15GB bonus will not carry over but what is left of the regular 20GB will rollover for only 28 days.

      • So, by spending on this pack, you don't touch your 80gb until the beginning of your 2nd month of the $150 plan?

        • Yes, that is what happened to me.

      • Not any more it doesn't (sadly)…

        • Oh bugger.

I have a family member coming over to Aus for 3 weeks who will be in need of a SIM. This will be ideal for him. Thanks for posting. Especially after the Cashback + new signup bonus of $5; I'm essentially paying $1.

    • How did you get the new $5 signup bonus? Thought you needed a member friend to refer you, but did not spend too much time reading details lol.

      • +1

I was greeted with the offer when I opened up the link; didnt do anything special. The $5 referral bonus is a separate offer.

    • +1

      Hi,

We are glad to hear that this offer is beneficial or your family member. We will continue to work on more exciting promotions in the future. Stay tuned!

      Thanks.

      • This is exciting, I just need a reason to sign up to your 365 day large plan, I'm just waiting for some kind of special.

      • Hi question.

I bought this SIM and activated it with the $15 recharge for 28 days.

Family member is going back overseas now, and will be coming back next year - can they keep the SIM and recharge again when they come back next year with the same number?:

  • +8

A warning with Boost, do not stockpile the SIMs. I have a SIM with expiry date Oct 2020, they refused to activate it because it was too far past the purchase date. They told me the number had already been reallocated and activated by someone else. Despite the fact I was asking to port an existing number.
So now I have a bundle of useless Boost SIMs, all with expiry dates in the future. Buyer beware.

    • +1

Wow, NOT happy to hear that just after buying one now.

I feel your pain as I have just last week found out I have 11 Vodafone sim starter packs of various values adding up to a total of $330 ( of course I got them cheaper on sale, but still paid around $150+- ) after being refused for the first time to activate a sim pack stating it was purchased more than 12 months ago.

I have been reading on here about the new Vodafone sim expiry times, but already had twenty stockpiled and for some reason some of my also old sim packs I can still activate, but these were included with the Harvey Norman cheap Vodafone Modems and their old $50 Prepaid Cap Mobile Phone Starter Packs.

Now I'm reading about so many porting delays and problems, and now this.

Sounds like all the telcos have got together and had a meeting and decided to close the sim hopping/sim sl*tting loophole and making it harder and harder for us to take advantage of these cheaper sim starter packs and regular porting practices :-(

Will have to copy what another OzBargainer mentioned on here and start logging/recording the purchase dates of every sim/sim pack we buy in order to activate before expiry, unless they change rule/policy without warnings, which they reserve the legal rights to do lol.

      • +1

Thanks for the warning. I have several Vodafone packs that I won't be needing until next year. I'll lower my expectations.

        • If you still have receipt or have purchase data on record, activate before 12 moths otherwise it will go to waste.

I called Vodafone and said there is nothing they can do, pretty much was told same in store, and because I have spend a lot of money on them in last few years I will call them up One more time to ask to speak to a manager to get some of my sims re-instated. Don't like my luck though lol.

@ozhunter68: Put in a complaint with the ombudsman if you are not satisfy with their response. I managed to get a refund on all of my Boost starter kits that their system had "expired" before the stated expiry date.

It took a while, and lots of back and forth, but I got an acceptable outcome in the end.

            • @Love a bargain: Well done. I do think you had a clearer case as there is an expiry date printed on those. With Vodafone they only have a manufacture date and from what I have been reading, they have been phasing these new rules in through new printed adverting on their deals for well over a year now. Still worth a try to get something back through an escalation or speaking to a manager, but don't think I will go to the ombudsman though.

What was the total retail value of all your Boost sim packs?

      • +1

Vodafone is different they recycled the package but if you complain they'll give s replacement pack. Boost I think still use pre assigned number on the pack just and you only need sim number or mobile number to activate so it's very easy to bruteforce, activate the pack and get replacement sim somehow

        • Not really sure what you mean, but would be more than happy to have sim starter packs replaced, not worried about the attached phone number. See my comment above.

I bet one nonpareil that the voda packs that you cannot activate have a letter "U" at the start of the activation key.

Any with letter "V" will be old and will/should activate especially if the manufacture date is a few years old and only have normal and micro sims in the pack

        yes?/no?

        can you check that info?

        • Ok, checked my 11 Voda sims of values $30-$40-$50 with manufacture dates from 31/05/2016 going back as far as 24/09/2015 all tri sims for either mobile or data, so yeah, fairly old but still 100% functional and usable. Activation codes all start with U09 on these ones that failed activation.

The sim packs that are still ok after either activating in last week or running through their web activation to check is a mix of sims with activating key starting with V as well as U09 and a mix of the usual tri sim starter packs, sims packs that were included with prepaid modems purchased from Harvey Norman old stock on clearance and purchased over a year ago, and the old $50 Prepaid Cap starter packs only full size & micro that have 3GB data printed on them also bought over a year ago on clearance from H.N. Pretty sure the regular tri sims packs that worked were also included with two Vodafone 4G routers I got over a year ago.

I was told on phone from Voda that the sims are cancelled 12 moths after purchase date, but as you can see from my above info that is not always so clear and that can vary depending on sim type and where you purchased it from. Beware,….YMMV LOL.

    • Put in a complaint with the ombudsman if you are not satisfy with their response. I managed to get a refund on all of my Boost starter kits that their system had "expired" before the stated expiry date.

It took a while, and lots of back and forth, but I got an acceptable outcome in the end.

P.S. Boost's customer service is operated by Telstra but their agents can't make Boost's operation team to do anything. So, basically, Boost just keep saying "no" to everything even though the Telstra customer service agents thinks that my requests were reasonable and could be done.

Now I'm reading about so many porting delays and problems,

If porting from Voda do it 2 weeks in advance if your plan expiring. Voda does not offer a prorata refund for post paid customers, so if you roll over into a new billing cycle because of porting delays you've lost that money.

    • Thanks for info and helpful for some. These earlier sim expires and porting delays effect people who port

every 28-30-35 days much more and often these extra cost will hurt these people the most.

Been using Boost for a while. Is it possible to activate one of these sims, use the same mobile number as you have previously been using and get the bonus data? Or is it only for new Boost users?

    • Not sure why people have given you upvotes when your comment is mostly two questions, but they have not answered your questions, go figure lol.

These $150/special $135 are essentially re-charges for 12 months that you can just add to your current Boost number. As they also include a free Boost Sim, alternatively if your with another provider you can port in to boost and add this re charge voucher,…voila.

      • +1

Maybe they’re using it the same way as’Like’ on Facebook - they want to follow and see an answer too?

This isn’t one of the 12 month recharges though, it’s a new membership kit, so you didn’t answer it either :-)

        • Haha, sorry there. I just quickly saw the Boost post and as I have been back and forth from the other Boost Coles deal I got them mixed up. I had a feeling that was an odd question from that deal lol.

To answer your question again,…take two, I think you can't add this as credit as a re-charge to your old number. It is for porting or activating as a New number as I often do just for the data as a tethering hotspot.

        • +1

To use a starter kit, most Telco requests the number be ported in from another network. (NB. Don't try to port between Telstra and Boost. It just doesn't work.) It doesn't care who that particular number has been with in the past, just which network it's on at the point of porting in.

  • What a mistake. I have purchased Boost (Telstra) card from BigW and trying to transport my number since 4 September (20 days ago)…
They claimed the system in trouble for a month.
I asked them give my money back they also refused.

I would stay away from Boost /Telstra as much as I can…

Read this and you will see how many people in same shoes.

  • How much time do you have to recharge these after buying? My current plan expires November

  • Hi.. Does it mean we have to paY only $15 one time payment for first 3 months?

    • $15 gets you 28 days only. Extra months are $30

  • does that mean $15 for 35gb for first month after activation? i have friend and family coming end of this month for less than a month so they are not recharging it.

    • 28 days for $15
