Original Coupon Deal
Just a little more expensive than the 3700X from the last deal for a better bin chip and 100Mhz clock increment. From what I have researched it would reach 4.4Ghz OC very stable. Everywhere else sell for > $610.

Technically correct though, it just sounds retarded.
Technically correct, the best kind of correct.
Accidentally copied from the tag. Edited anyway (:
3700X price drop incoming…
Almost no difference between the 3800X and the 3700X. Save your money for the 3700X deals between $430 - $470.
Where did you get $430 from?
The best I have seen on a 3700X is about $440. From this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/481758.
But for $30 more you can have the 3800X
That is only $30 for 100 more!
This chip getting a full increment higher than the 3700x struck me as odd. As far as I'm aware it's completely identical, they've just clocked it marginally higher. Feels like it's better called a 3750x.
Anyway on topic 10% extra feels somewhat worth over the 3700x iff you're going to overclock it.
This is false. The 3700x and 3800x both come with the same cooler. Wraith Prism.

https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-3800xAnd Ryzen chips don't really overclock that well. But if you DO want to overclock, you are likely to see 100-150mhz higher overclock on the 3800x. 100mhz is the advertised boost clock difference, so it maintains that margin even while overclocking.

Is this a good buy? For the original MSRP difference… no. For $32 though? Unless if you are intentionally going for a lower TDP processor, I think it is absolutely worth the extra $32.
I stand corrected. I assumed the situation is like 3600 vs 3600X since the 3700x is rated at 65W.
Most reviews recommend buying 3700X over 3800X. While 3600 is great value for money, anything above that, you are paying a premium. If the performance of 3700X is insufficient, you really should be looking at 3900X or 3950X or better. The lowest price we've seen for 3700X is ~$441.15 (with some people claiming the lowest being $430). So, we are talking about $59 difference.

I don't think it is worth spending the extra (if we use the lowest prices - the difference is $58-$59) for 1-2 fps improvement in games and the CPU draws more power and runs hotter.
Using lowest prices, sure, probably on the other side of being worth it or not.
Using current prices, $32 ain't bad.
Reviewers made their recommendation to stick with the 3700x based on the MSRP difference, which was $70 USD. Much more significant sum than $32AUD.
Yup for a lot of people 3800x is worth it over the 3700x.
you have no idea what you're talk about. higher rated cooler?????
3700x looks like a nice upgrade path when my I5 4690 gives up…..
https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-vs…
Upgraded to 3800x from i5 4590 and it’s so nice
But yeah 3700x is probably better bang for your buck
The problem is that everything is working just fine and at a decent speed. :) I've upgraded all the HDD's to SSD's over the last couple of years so I can't justify a new CPU/MOBO/Ram but I'll definitely keep it on the radar. :)
I did the same only I upgraded from a Q9505 - same motherboard from 2007, via e4400, q9400 and still worked fine on most daily apps. Video encoding though sees almost 10x better performance with the Ryzen.
I made a deliberate choice to go with the 3700X as it has a low 65W TPD but still comes with the larger Wraith Prism cooler - ideal for 24/7.
Nice. Are ASROCK mobos still the goto boards?
@EightImmortals: I used an Asrock B450 Pro 4. It came from ebay (Shallothead) with BIOS 3.2 which was sufficient for booting and 16G of Corsair RAM LPX 3000 which works fine at that speed. C15 latency.
That combination works fine and seems 100% stable. I don't overclock as a rule as this is an office PC come server that's used 24/7.

@freddofrog42: Cheers
I'm still on my x5670 and trying to hold out.
X58 MASTER RACE
Userbenchmark has a bad rap since changing their metrics because Ryzen 3000 was scoring really well against Intel. Hardware Unboxed commented on their dodgy scoring since this Reddit post in July.

For non overclockers it will be same performance mostly
if you do heavy oc, than you also need a better motherboardthe TDP increased by over 60% for a 100 MHz increase in boost frequency?
https://www.techspot.com/review/1899-ryzen-3800x-vs-3700x-di…
Have to spend more on motherboard, cooling fan and electricity bills to take the advantage.
I believe the TDP is only for cooling performance as both 3700x and 3800x draw pretty same wattage under same load (under 10W different). https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-3800x-revie…
The stock Wraith Prism only rated at 95W so if you want the best out of the 3800x probably need a third party fan or AIO.Sure TDP is not equal to electricity been used.
It's just the potential head room mostlyIt's app dependent. When not overclocked, in some app, the difference is 1W, though in the worst case we've seen (i.e. handbrake), the difference is 14W (16%) from that report.
However, when overclocked, the power draw does go up quite a lot. It's just the performance gain once you overclock seems rather minor for some reason.
Memory / memory controller related?
The all core boost difference is higher. Base clock is 300mhz higher.
Great find OP, couldn't resist the 3800x over the 3700x at this price and seeing I was also able to nab a 280mm AIO at a good deal as well I should be able to put this to good use!
Able to share the deal?
Sorry it was an in-store offer at PLE for their EOFY sale - nabbed a NZXT Kraken X62. Been collecting parts on sale for months now for my new build.
Looking like a very solid build so far under $1k cash out of pocket so far and all i need now is the motherboard, so just waiting on great deal for a good X570.
I'm using my odl rx580 GPU until RDNA or RTX mature in a generation or two then will upgrade the GPU.
Here are the parts I have collected:
I was set on the 3700x, but for an extra ~$35 for what is basically a better binned 3700x. i might grab this instead
As opposed to a baking CPU?
