Great price if you've never taken up one of the deals before. The big cans also tend to be brewed in Japan, only the bottles are brewed under licence elsewhere.

    • +1

Yeah, the Japanese Asahi Super Dry is fantastic. Unfortunately in Australia, you can only get it in cans. The bottles used to be made in Thailand, I think now they're out of China, and they actually taste nothing like Asahi Super Dry. So yeah, buy the cans unless you're actually in Japan :P

The Asahi Black is also very good, and those bottles (you can get them at Dan Murphy's, not sure about elsewhere) ARE from Japan.

      • Ive found a few of the bottles are NZ brew - not a bad version.

The other day had one that was Ireland brew - from a Thai restaurant in Brisbane!

        • Asahi Super Dry made in New Zealand? That sounds utterly bizarre. Probably better than the execrable Chinese variant, at least, but still not "the real thing" (no, not Coke either :P).

    • Agreed… Japanese brewed Asahi is noticable different and better than the made under licence stuff.. of the big Japanese brewers staples (ignoring the special batches or seasonal releases in Japan) Kirin Ichi Ban is superior to Asahi super dry IMHO

I miss the days when the coupon was tied to email address and not a physical address. It was good while it lasted.

    • +3

Disappointing but fair - no way they could keep up the kind of discounts they were offering by providing multiples to the same customers, they would only make a 10-15% margin on this product at standard price.

      • +2

that said, if you move to a new place which someone used the code before then you're stuffed.

    • Just type in an impossible address, and then when it comes up below the box with 'not your address? use the form button', go to the manual form, then type your normal address spanning address lines 1 and 2. i.e.

      5,
      ozbargain rd,
      VIC

It worked fine for me doing this.

      • I did this as well, but they caught on eventually. That was a couple of years ago, maybe they are big enough now that they won't manually check as many orders?

        • I'd be surprised if they manually checked any of em any more. Maybe they'll flag it if you do it more than once or use the same email/account as a previous order, but it would be a logistical nightmare to manually go through all your orders and check to see if the address is off by one or two characters and a partial duplicate.

I'll let you know how my order goes and whether I get a rejection email tomorrow!

          • @[Deactivated]: You would think so, but they got me eventually. I did about 10-15 orders all on new accounts. I got some great deals, and my courier thought it was brilliant because he was getting a delivery for me every morning for a while!

            • @pdtmathieson: "10-15 orders"

Haha, No wonder they caught on!

              • @[Deactivated]: Haha well it was worth the effort, although it felt a bit gross. I don't like to be exploitative but they made it appealing enough for me to push through!

                • @pdtmathieson: Nice. I would have done the same.

        • Hope so. I tried a different method though :)

Worked a treat.. Thanks for the tip.

  • +1

    Thanks OP. Just bought one

  • +5

Just in case anyone is worried the expiry date on the case I bought is 05/2020

    • +1

Thank you, I wondering about exactly this

  • +1

Great deal!!! $11 and change delivery for me, but still an awesome find!! Thanks!!

  • Promo code maybe incorrect or expired¿

    • +1

You are not a new groupon customer.

      • I am now but which coupon code to I use?
Got the $30 ofd but how do I use BRANDNEW code?

        • Use the code in your Groupon vouchers.

  • +1

    thanks, just bought one

  • +1

    Bought one, thanks OP!

$46.89+5 deliver to the door this evening, cheers.

  • Thank goodness I'm boycotting Groupon. I'm drinking too much beer already lol.

    • +3
      • Thank you. I actually bought that during the previous BWS deal. And found out I didn't like the taste. Maybe I just don't like cider. I tried a few different brands and didn't like any of them

        • +1

You might like cider, Somersby barely qualifies as cider. It's very sweet and made from apple juice concentrate. If you want to try something that is available everywhere, try Mercury - it's still mass produced but generally a bit more beer-y than Somersby

          • @pdtmathieson: Cheers, thats right. It felt too apple juicey. I mean I like Apple juice but not like this. Thanks for t he recommendation. Will try mercury next time.

  • Is there a reason why "BRANDNEW" is the coupon code for these deals, we don't actually use that do we? I made a new account and didn't use it but still paid $43.88 + $5 groupon purchase.

    • +1

It brings the groupon voucher down to $4.35 so an extra saving that I forgot to include in the OP.

      • Ah I see! 65c down the drain, sucks for me!

  • -2

    The $50 voucher for $10 it much better deal… Get a case, 6 pack + 1 Asahi beers = $100.13 (31 beers), less $50 discount + $11.89 shipping (to me) = $62.02 + $10 groupon = $72 for 31 fine beers delivered to the door.

Update: I see they removed the option to buy a single Asahi can now. Crap. Just add something to go over $100. Still same math.

    • Is that not around $2.30 a beer, this deal makes it $2.24 a beer with your shipping amount?

      • But I get more beers ;) And depends on the shipping too.

    • +1

Buying two cases would be cheaper wouldn't it? But not everyone likes to buy two.

      • I am maximising the voucher discount as I have access to many addresses, not limited to one. Buying two cases in one order doesn't make sense.

  • Oh FFS we do not deliver to you address? Why was it showing as $15 shipping?

    So I bought a $5 coupon that I can't use? Fook!!

    • Send it to a mate…. a GOOD mate

      • And make sure you can get it back from that mate.

        • Don't worry mate. I'll stick around in my dinged up falcon in the carpark waiting for you. Just waiting for a mate.

  • Shopback 15% on groupon and 7.5% on Boozebud too - grab a referral link if new to shopback

      • Far flung remote places, but The Norfolk Remembers. Winter is coming!

        • More likely Aboriginal communities with alcohol restrictions.

  • Great deal but is this the Coopers version?

    • +1

What do you mean? It's brewed in Japan.

      • I have previously bought the South Australian brewed Sapporo, made under the license by Coopers.

        • +3

Ah, Asahi is completely different, the bottles are not brewed in Japan, the cans are.

          • @onetwothreefour: 500ml cans and 2000ml bottle only.
350ml cans are made in china

            • +1

@koakun: Are you sure about the 350ml cans? I've had some that were brewed in Japan.

    • +1

No it is brewed in Japan

      • This is an unbelievable deal then.

    24pk appears out of stock.

    • :( I should have ordered a second pack!

    • F**K I just bought the $5 groupon :(

So what now, I can't think anything that worthwhile to spend on :)

      • Had chat with Harry@BoozeBud and my order have pass through. Awesome.

  • Awesome deal!

Should have checked stock before i purchased the voucher.

    • Same :(

  • just worked for me … but I did have it sitting in the cart from some time back while I faffed around on the groupon site.

  • is there anything else worth buying? also why only the buy the $5 for $30 credit and not the $10 for $50, I know the discount isnt as much but seeing as you can only be a new customer once…?

    • -1

Work it out yourself on a per purchase basis. But in this case, if you only wanted Asahi and wanted the cheapest $/can, this works out cheaper than tipping it over $100 min spend to get the $50 off, spending $5 and getting $30 credit is a higher rate of return than spending $10 and getting $50. But in some instances it will work out the better deal depending on what you're buying. Edit: also depends on shipping cost as to which voucher will be better for you.

This is a crap beer, similar to a VB. Pay $5-10 extra and get a cartoon of a local craft lager or ale. Day and night difference.

    • +3

      LOL!

      • Ratebeer score:
        Victoria Bitter 2/4 = 1.97
        Asahi Super Dry 4/13 = 2.17

        • +1

I'd trust the 1,860 people who have clicked on the link in this deal for cans that were brewed in Japan rather than the people from eastern Europe on some random website rating beers that were probably not brewed in Japan.

    • You can get it ridin' You can get is slidin' You can feel it comin' on about four A hard-earned thirst needs a big cold beer, and the best cold beer is VIC VIC BITTER! You can get it walkin' You can get it talkin'! … Victoria Bitter!

    • Ordered mine on Friday was delivered on Tuesday to NSW Central Coast.
