Xbox One S 1TB All-Digital Edition Console with 4 Games $299 @ JB Hi-Fi

130

There have been better deals on the Xbox One S in the past, but since the All-Digital console came out I haven't seen many good deals at all so thought I'd share this one.

$299 for the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition Console with Minecraft, Sea of Thieves, Forza Horizon 3 and Anthem Legion of Dawn

It doesn't say it on the page itself, but this price is $50 off at the moment.

I’d hate to have this console. Say goodbye to cheap used discs and the blu-Ray player

    • +4

Personally not a fan of this version either (the all digital) for the reasons you mentioned but in my opinion, this would be ideal if it priced more aggressively (without any games and just a Gamepass code). Like $100 to $150AUD. Considering we're 5+ years into it's life cycle and a new/updated console is not far.

    • +1

At first I was confused as to what you were saying, since the xb1 has a great 4k/Blu-ray player. Then I realized this is the digital version. $300 is a joke, even with the games.

      • It really is. I've updated my previous comment make it clearer. I'm otherwise an advocate of the console, its game library and Gamepass.

  • +8

So literally all they've done is rip out the disc drive, giving you less options, and they're selling that as a feature?

    Well done marketing guys.

    • I think it has a cheaper RRP and I assume more compact. Not worth it though unless you really only want digital and don't use it as a dvd/blu-ray player

      • +1

I think it's the same size unfortunately, could be wrong. Though the One S (and X) are incredibly impressive for such a small form factor.

    • +1

It’s a test for next gen, depending on how sales go they might more aggressively move towards digital only in future consoles

Just continues to show how disconnected (or maybe political) Microsoft’s gaming division is

      • Next gen Xbox will have a disc drive they already confirmed this

    • +1

It's cheaper. They're not pretending like its some revolutionary thing they've done, they've just released a console without a disc drive for those who are only buying games digitally, and because they've removed it they can reduce the price

      • +1

Upgrade to a downgrade with free ring dings

  • +2

No 4K blue ray driver eh? Giving less and charge more. Thx MS

    • +1

      I'm gonna hazard a guess… if you can't spell Blu-ray you probably aren't using it much…

The Console would be better, at the right price. They also aren't charging more for it… it has a lower RRP.

My One S and X never have and never will touch a disc.

      • +1

Why no discs? I used them on both s and x for many years, no issues, both play everything I throw at them. 4k hdr looks amazing on an oled tv.

        • +2

Because I'm all digital, and I absolutely love it.

          Not to mention, having a 2.5yo isn't a good thing for discs…. I also hate clutter, I love a silent machine…

I got a 4K Player for the movies, the X and S I had were obnoxious for disc noise.

          • @scuderiarmani: “I love a silent machine.”

Don’t use an Xbox One X in summer then.

            • +1

@DryScissors: True, but the PS4 Pro is infinitely worse the moment any AAA game is played, in the middle of winter… The X is pretty impressive for the power/size. PC Elitists and Youtube Tech Channels often agree.

          • @scuderiarmani: Fair enough, your internet connection would be a deciding factor I reckon.

Hate to have to download a 100gb game with an average connection.

            • @TEER3X: In this day and age you'll be downloading big updates anyway….

      • Haha incorrect assumption. I use (a lot in fact), but I didn’t care about the spell check. Same goes iPhone users spelling Iphone all the time.

Also available for same price (with free shipping) from Microsoft Ebay page, for those with 10% gift cards. Personally I wont be buying at this price.

  • +6

I don't need the disc drive and am in the market but there's no way i'm buying the "all digital" model out of principal when they won't pass on the discount properly to consumers.

    • No second hand market to compete with and hence no need to discount games in future… say bye to EB games and all the stores that sell games

Remember when Apple removed the 3.5” floppy from the iMac?

    People complained about that too…

    • +5

That’s different. That was just replacing one physical media with another. Microsoft are taking out the middle man, and not passing on any of their profit margins- in fact, digital games are usually 20% more expensive.

      • 'in fact, digital games are usually 20% more expensive.'

        Insert random number here.

Going fwd… Game Pass Ultimate, especially with the upcoming generation, will make physical media a complete waste of space.

We/You/Everyone can complain all we want, it's where it's heading. Atleast MS has a viable option with an excellent value for money subscription service. Far better than the other 2 with their gimped varieties.

        • Don’t get me wrong, I’m 100% digital, albeit with a number of purchases from Turkey and Argentina. I just hope that once M$ goes all digital, they allow discounts on their gift cards, like Apple with iTunes.

          • @DryScissors: I get that, but I won't hold my breath. Atleast we can get the subscription services for huge discounts though…. a first party game or two a year covers the cost.

        • I don't think anyone is against MS's fairly priced subscription service.

This is more akin to itunes trying to sell me the digital copy of taylor swifts new album for the same price as JB hifi while cutting out the costs of the CD, booklet, distribution, retail placement cost etc.

I'll wait for the standard One S to go on sale again for $250ish rather than send the message to MS i'm ok with being gouged. If the "all digital" is a serious flop i'd be surprised if the next gen doesn't come with a fairly discounted digital only version.

It's a very unfortunate acronym - Xbox One SAD Edition …

    • but very appropriate

  • Physical versions are almost always cheaper, and you have to option to resell, trade-on, or gift to someone. I guess this console is for those rich folk who don't care much about re-sell-ability. To each their own.

    • -1

You can buy digital games on sale…. And often in other regions cheaper than day 1 physical..

      Hardly rich folk either…

Can you play your physical games on 2 separate consoles simultaneously?

I had a PSP since 2007, for a few years it was my main game machine.

On Christmas, 2010, I bought the all digital PSP Go with all the Christmas money my 14 year old Atheist ass got. It was on special for 200 at that point after a pretty (profanity) shit launch. It also came with 10 games, which were valued to be around 400ish IIRC. At that point, I got a bunch of games I decently wanted (and FIFA World Cup 2010) for pretty bloody cheap, and a nice shiny new machine to play the games on.

That purchase made sense at the time. This all digital console does not. It's nothing special price wise, it's nothing particularly good with the bundled games either. Make this 250 RRP and throw in a year of Game Pass Ultimate, and then it's starting to look alright, failing that, take the GPU away and this dickless discless wonder should have dropped at 200RRP at most.

    • Take the GPU away? You'll have an interesting game console….

      • +1

        Game Pass Ultimate.

Though I'd be down to see if I can run Doom (93) without a GPU.

  • +1

I'd buy it, if it were $99 or less. 1TB storage with no physical disc player? Not to mention no access to cheap pre-owned games? Yeah, right. Put it somewhere where the sun don't shine, marketing team.

  • Have a 500gb one s and use the dvd/BD all the time, the noise of kids is way more than the slight hum of a disc! Would rather own the discs and not be trapped into only playing when nbn or MS services are working !

Wouldn't mind a one s 1 or 2tb hdd though if they're going cheap as I only paid $200 for the one s 500gb a year ago with minecraft and games now are over 100gb!

Taking away the dvd makes this basically a supercharged Nvidia shield, but with $80 games!

  • Why it is called all digital version? DVD/BD are analog?

  • Just an FYI

The Xbox One controller + USB cable for Windows deal for $59 + delivery (or free pickup from Umart) has more stock.

In case you wanted a cheap controller, but couldn't get one because they ran out of stock https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/481942

Also, people have been able to price match it at Jb HiFi, possibly other stores too (so it's worth asking if there is no stock near you, or you don't want to pay extra for delivery).
