  • The new iPad still has the previous gen processor from 1.5 years ago and includes no new features whatsoever, what's the point of even releasing a new iteration?

    • Yes, the new 7th gen 10.2-inch budget iPad is internally identical to the (previous) 6th gen 9.7-inch budget iPad.

Only difference is 0.5-inch larger screen (barely noticeable) and smart-connector (who is buying the AU$235 plastic keyboard and using it as a laptop).

Also the issue I have is in the US it is released at the same price of previous budget iPad @ RRP US$329 (RRP AU$469). But in AU it is RRP AU$529.

      • Also the issue I have is in the US it is released at the same price of previous budget iPad @ RRP US$329 (RRP AU$469). But in AU it is RRP AU$529.

In fairness, the exchange rate has dropped considerably since the 2018 iPad was released (0.78:1 then, 0.69:1 now), so $329 + $32.90 GST ~= $526 AUD.

        • I see. Even at RRP AU$469 I see little point in upgrading.
          Just my opinion of course.

          • @thebadmachine: I absolutely agree - with Officeworks/Harvey selling the 2018 128GB version for $539 and Apple wanting $689 for the 2019 model, there's no point wasting the extra.

Still Rocking with iPad Air don't see the point of upgrading

      • I was amazed at how well the iPad Air ran on iOS 12 - only upgraded for pencil support.

  • Keynote didn’t mention scratch resistance, yet it’s most critical in my decision to purchase. Originally, Jobs noted Gorilla Glass, but since they’ve started to source locally, the prominence of this has gone quiet.

    • I haven’t scratched an iPhone since the 3GS.

      • Have you used an iPhone since the 3GS?

        • Yep.

          3G, 3GS, 5, 5S, 6, 6 Plus, XR.

          • @Randolph Duke:

            6

then I known you're bullshiting. No-one takes better care of their phone, and mine is full on micro scratches; and worn-out area where my thumb normally rests or scrolls.

            • @AlexF: All phones get micro scratches, why bother looking for it?

I used my 6 Plus for 3.5 years, can’t say I wore away the glass or button lol. Maybe get your rock hands checked.

Lacking innovation. In their complacency, Chinese manufacturers such as Huawei, OnePlus, etc have surpassed them in terms of bringing out new interesting features.

Seems like Apple has thrown in the towel on actual innovation and is focusing on locking users into their ecosystem with exclusives (Apple TV+ and Arcade). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gzj_rwg4wdQ

    • Without Steve jobs they are nothing. His roadmap probably only covered 10 years and its already expired after iPhone X released.

Hence no new innovations nothing interesting and just pure pricey.

      Let's watch Apple shares sink

      • Without Steve jobs they are nothing

Let's not go idolizing CEOs. He had a vision, yes, but execution came from his extraordinarily talented and driven subordinates. Apple has always been about brilliant execution (and marketing), not innovation. Walter Isaacson covered all this in his book (which, isn't kind to Jobs).

        just pure pricey

they price as per market demand. Would be incompetent otherwise. Undoubtedly, they have the best actuaries in the world.

    • Yes, absolutely. Apple will be more and more conservative as they grow. They will just do minor upgrades. For most of the people is enough and focusing on locking the people in the ecosystem and services just makes sense.

  • Got an iPhone 7 and Watch 2. Don't feel the need to buy either new models.

If a X or XS comes up cheap I'll grab that instead.

I never thought much of 2019 for Apple but I am keen to see what 2020 holds.

Wow apple really seems to be loosing traction huh? I didn't hear/see/read anything about an upcoming announcements and wasn't aware there was one until seeing this post :O There seemed to be more hype around the new Vive VR headset announcement than this apple announcement.

    • You must be in the wrong social groups then. I heard plenty about the event before it occured. Just read tech websites.
And straight after it occurred my email inbox was full of emails related to it.
Going onto my meme and pop culture platforms, there are memes about the new Pro Max.

  • Will the ECG app be available in Oz?

    • Don’t be silly!

    • Regulatory nightmare apparently.

  • New watch is tempting, I'm on series 2 at the moment. Could hold off another year though.
Don't see any reason to upgrade from XR.

  • Me: I won’t be pre ordering this year I’ll wait and get it later
Also me: refresh damn you… it’s time bloody refresh. Ooo yay launch day delivery.

  • Wait for the camera reviews before pulling the trigger.

so an entire year of careful engineering, innovation and planning, all they come up with is an extra camera on the back, which every other phone has had for a while now. Add Pro to the name, and jack up the price so people think its better
