Tip 1 - don't rely on what you read on some random blog or facebook page, it might be a pyramid scam, or someone trying to pump up the value of something they have a vested interest in

1) Don't invest what you can afford to lose
2) Try ETF's or LIC's first, let the pros do their thing until you have more experience. Wilson Asset Management is well regarded in this respect.
3) Don't get sucked in by rampers and dereampers
4) Don't get sucked into 'leveraged' accounts.
