Might put something heavy inside the tent so it doesn't get blown away.
kids?
wife?
Don't worry about pegs.
Once the kids are in there with all their stuff it won't go anywhere.
But if you're still worried about a change in the weather and you haven't got any spare bricks to put inside on the corners, use some rope through the corner loops and then tie it to the swing set or trampoline.
The kids won't be out there in a gale anyway.
How many kids have you got? I suggest the 4 person tent for an extra $10 if you have 3 kids. It'll give them more space to move around.
Walkie-talkies are great to talk to mum or dad during the evening (if you dont plan on going in there yourself).
Thanks so much for this! It'll be for my two daughters. Since I'll be joining them on the weekends as well, the 4 person sounds more suitable.
Definitely got plenty of spare bricks, so that's a great idea.
Cheers mate.
Edit: purchased the 4 person, look forward to introducing my girls to their first "camping" experience lol.
They'll love it :).
Torches for everyone so there's no fighting, and if you pop into Bunnings you can buy fire pits at this time of year for under $50.
Then you've got marshmellows sorted too!
God I'm a good Dad :).
Haha, have fake grass too, and bought the 4 person tent for my son and daughter to hang out next weekend!
I have sandbags - will latch the corners of the tents to the sandbags.
Thanks OP!
Your fake turf is likely held down by pegs.. unless it was glued to existing concrete?
Can this be used at the beach on sunny days , while out with the kids ?
Thanks
It can but will be like a sauna inside. Go for a proper beach shelter with plenty of airflow.
I bought one of these last summer…plenty of breeze but a pain to set up.
These pop up jobs are the go. Quick up, quick down.
I've got one of these, https://coolcabanas.com.au/
Easy to set up and pack away.
Thanks OP. Bought a 4 man tent 👍
Excellent price, thanks I picked one up.
Thanks OP. Perfect timing as I need a new small tent due to my failure to dry out my last one after the previous camp ;-)
Awesome thanks. Have a school sleep out and know nothing about camping and needed a tent
is the Coleman Fast Pitch Echo Lake Dome Tent 8 Person for $300 anything special?
I have the coleman standard 6 person and now the silver series 6 person 'instant up'. SO much faster than a traditional tent useful when kids impatient! but also bulky in the boot of the car. Aldi are doing their own version likely identical just cheaper materials/stitching possibly but should be fine for a year or two of camping (aldi warranty generally decent) if you wanted to try an instant up style tent.
Bought mine from Snowy's and can not fault their customer service, so I'll be supporting them again come replacement time.
Anyone know how tightly packed these are? Go hiking once or twice a year so don't need a tent too serious.
I remember looking at these in the store a while back and I think they were fairly bulky.
VERY tightly packed. The carry case is 40 cm in length approximately, circumference to suit.
My camping chairs take up double to triple the space.
Hiking tents are expensive for a reason. Any extra weight on your back while hiking gets heavier throughout the day.
This might do you but I'd say look for decent second hand or get something like this https://www.snowys.com.au/mozzie-dome-i-tent?gclid=EAIaIQobC…
Reckon your linked one, with the weather cover, is good for hiking in different weather conditions/countries? Where it's cold as well?
My experience is with a much warmer climate then most ozbargainers.
I like these mozzie domes cause they do the job, not too bulky and cheap.
I have a hiking tent that's smaller and lighter and would probably be better in wetter cooler climates.
Tents tend to do very little to keep you insulated. Their main purpose is to provide shelter against wind and rain and to keep bugs out. An appropriate sleeping bag is what will keep you warm and insulated.
A tent like that, even with the fly on top, will not do well in windy conditions because there are no sidewalls to keep the wind out. If it's raining, you've also got no where to store your gear because it either doesn't look like there's a vestibule or it's tiny if there is.
If you are interested in some good cheap hiking tents, look up Nature Hike Cloud Up on AliExpress. I have a 3 person one and it's good for 2 people + gear. They're high quality Chinese clones of the Big Agnes Fly Creek tents - very similar design + materials for significantly less money. Reviews are almost overwhelmingly positive. Probably not the best for very high winds, but it's a good all-rounder especially for the price.
If you are carrying it in a backpack, absolutely forget about a tent like this. You will regret every single second of it
This is awesome. I just ordered the 4 person for click and collect. Totally looking forward to a few weekends away when it gets warmer.
Just set up the 4 person on my own. First ever attempt at putting up a tent, took me about 30 minutes. Now that I know exactly how to do it, probably take 5-10 minutes each set up.
Loads of space inside. The girls love it. Look forward to camping in it tonight.
Are you going to scare them?
could you fit 2 adults and 3 kids under 10 in the 4 person tent?
2.4 x 2.1m floorspace….so one child would have to be about 1.1m or shorter to fit sideways, the other 2, 1.5m or under. Someone gets feet.
Alternative answer:
Have you watched Willy Wonka?
I thought this one was a bargain - 9 person, 2 separated bedrooms with insulated blackout material, huge indoor space, $349 before cashback (down from $850, saw it on sale elsewhere for $600)

nice to see this sort of stuff here, would love some more hiking/outdoor gear as i am looking to set up a hiking kit and take up hiking
Yeah missed it. No stick. Brisbane.
Are these suitable to stand on their r own in calm weather? No pegs in the ground for instance. Looking to grab a reasonable sized one for the backyard for some fun with the kids, but we have fake turf put in, so can't peg it down.
