  • I have my pixel 3 now. I have spent the last hour with support because the bottom half of the screen has a pink tinge when night light is on :( getting a replacement but they can't tell me if it is new or a refurb

    • Send it back, you will need another voucher tho

      • They are sending me another one. I was adamant I didn't want a refurbished one but the rep couldn't tell me if they would send me a new or refurbished one. He did agree that I could return it for a full refund if it's a refurb.

        • keep that in writing. as far as I know, once you receive a replacement your 14 day return option is gone.

          • @snvl: @snvl: Didn't get it in writing outside of the chat. Hopefully they have it saved

    • wow, that's dissapointing. Agree, better return for a refund instead of getting a refurbished set

      • Yeah super disappointed. They have agreed to replace it and he couldn't tell me if it is a refurb but agreed I can get a full refund if it is so that will have to do.

For anyone interested this is what it looks like

      https://files.ozbargain.com.au/upload/122337/72494/img_20190…

      • Oh my god that's horrible. I wonder if it goes out of stock and Pixel 4 comes out would they replace it with that? Hmm

        • That would be nice, I'll never be that lucky though

  • I'm getting mine today, P3 128gb White, not sure if i want to keep it. If anyone interested, can pm me

Also ordered a nice case and screenprotector from ebay

    • What has changed your mind on it?

      • I’ve been using iPhone for more than 10yrs, before that was old school Nokia

So, I’m not sure of jumping over to Pixel,

        • Ah right, I feel you. After I washed my Iphone 6 went to Note 4 and it took a bit to get used to it. Though I had iMac from 2011, iPad and 2 iPhones, Apples business practices on top of their extra cost have turned me away now.

          • +1

@Chaddycop: yeah, i got really turned off by the skyrocket price of iphones and ipads. I owned quite a few I-devices over the years. Their hardware is good, but i think software is too restrictive.

Google pixel is the only android that i'm interested, so this 50% offer might be a good opportunity for me to jump over.

I'm still using my old 4yrs old iphone

  • anyone want a code? I've still got one for 50% off. Send me a PM and I can send it to you.

They are all out of stock

  • Google Store is entirely out of stock this morning. Discount codes are probably no use now - unless they find more stock to list.

    • ends dec/31.

    • No Pixel 3XL left, only white Pixel 3 64GB in stock now.

  • My dad and I are after one of these, if there are codes still around please PM me :)

  • Just a word of advise. The quality on these phones are horrible. I did not believe all of the issues plaguing the pixel 3/xl until I experienced it myself. Just returned mine at Jb after using the phone for a week. Don't get me wrong. They are really great phones if you are lucky enough to get a unit without any issues.

  • Has anyone been charged International Transaction fee on purchase? I was charged in AUD but additional $18 are being charged by CBA as the merchant is overseas? GBR.. Pounds?

    • I noticed this also on my bank statement. The charge from google when it actually came out changed to $694 and it shows another transaction below it for $0.00 with the description saying foreign transaction fees included in transaction $19.90. I looked this up and it appears to be because the store purchased from is affiliated overseas, so your bank charges extra processing fees, each bank is different (a percentage of the cost) even if it's paid in AUD. I've bought from the google store before though and haven't had this fee so i'm not sure why the phones are ordered from overseas google. It states on googles help centre that foreign transaction fees are non refundable through them as they are a bank fee

    • Doesn't seem right though, seeing the phones were shipped to us from AU. I thought at first maybe I had my overseas vpn running without realizing, thinking that might have caused it. But it's not just me. Seems for some reason google are charging through their non AU site and the bank flags it as overseas

      • Doesn't seem right though,
Seems for some reason google are charging through their non AU site and the bank flags it as overseas

It has always been the case when purchasing from google. at least now they provide an invoice with GST (if you request it), a few years ago they didn't

    • My bank rebates international transaction fees but it would have been $14.99 otherwise.

I ordered using the link at the top of the Ozbargain page instead of the link in the promotional email from Google. Could that make a difference?

  • I didn't get a separate international transaction fee.

However the charge from Google was $19.90 more than it should have been. Going to chase it up now.

    • Did you get any answers?

      • Not in the 22 minutes since I emailed them…

Why don't you contact them also? The more customers to raise the issue the more likely they will correct it.

        • There's a chat support also you could try

          https://support.google.com/store/answer/7334136?hl=en#contac…

Yes I agree. Surely they will have to do something considering how many people will be questioning this, there were so many sales of these phones going by these threads. I'm going to try the chat in the morning before i drop my new pixel on my face, zzzzz

  • Got charged international fees by Citibank to the value of $20.38 for my $599.50 purchase. Will follow up with google and keep you guys posted how I go.

    • I was charged the same as well. It's bs that they sell it through the Aussie store and handle the payment processing overseas. I've emailed support asking for My $20 back but I don't like my chances

      • Are these charges appearing separately or included within final amount?

        • Mine appeared separately as a charge from the bank as an international transaction fee

        • Separate charge by my bank 4 days after the initial purchase.

    • chatting with the google store support at the moment… painful experience so far. She keeps saying 'it's the banks problem' … but she's currently consulting with a support specialist. Will keep you guys posted as I go… it's been 20 mins of chat so far.

      • Please let me know how you go. I emailed them last night but haven't heard back

        • Can you PM me your case ID number. Just so I can put some pressure on them that it is a widespread issue.

      • Would the international fee be due to the stock not being Australia maybe?

        • The stock should be Australian considering we bought it from an Australian store with an Australian plug?

      • 45 mins now, she's consulted with her specialist who can't find Google charging me an extra $20.38 fee (smh). Ofcourse numb nut!

She's asked me to contact the bank, to which I've told the bank says it's Google's problem for not declaring to the buyer than they are processing their payments overseas!.

45 mins in, she's gonna talk to her support specialist once again .

    • Google Support is hopeless. After 1 hour of chat,

      Hi,

      Thanks for contacting Google Support!

Google Play doesn't charge any additional fees on top of the total price that displays on the confirmation screen just before you complete your purchase. This total price includes any tax or shipping fees, if applicable. You can confirm the exact amount you were charged by signing in to your Google payment service and viewing the order.

Please be aware that your credit/debit card company may add additional fees that are not reflected in the price displayed on the confirmation screen. Any orders placed could be subject to cross-border or exchange fees by your card issuer, and Google Play cannot reimburse for any fees assessed by your card-issuing bank. Thanks!

Don't hesitate to respond back to this email, I am here to assist you.

Thinking of contacting my bank to dispute the charge. Anyone else got a better solution?

      • Just be careful if thinking of doing a charge back. Google will be ruthless is cancelling your Google account ie no Gmail, purchased apps etc.

      • intl fees are technically a bank service charge so google are technically correct. If you want to get around it, pay with an AMEX and it should be waived.

        • +1

Should I be worried every time I swipe my card at Coles just in case they start processing payments overseas??? :o

        • +1

          I see two issues.
          1. Businesses should make the risk of bank fees more obvious so they don't upset customers.
          2. Customers should take their business away from banks that charge these fees.

      • it is the bank charges, citibank will charge international fee if the company have the international address even it is traded in AUD.
it will be worth to check if other bank do charge international fee other than citibank.
Probably worth to send the invoice to citibank and dispute the charges.

  • Received the phone (3 xl, not pink) yesterday and very disappointed with the build quality of the phone. Couldn't believe Google was charging $1349 for this phone. Even 3 year old S7 edge looks premium compared to Pixel.Color - 'not pink' is like faded white. Thick chin feels ugly.
Updated OS to Android 10 and changed theme to dark mode. Thought it will be good but half of the apps (even google apps - maps, gmail) were white. Seems like, Google always do half baked things. I will check with Google, if I can return it within 14 days of purchase, for mind change.
Sorry for the rant, but need to vent off after disappointment. I had high hopes after using Nexus 5.

    • wow, would like to know on the return process.

Who will bear for return shipment cost and will there be any restocking fee?

    • if I can return it within 14 days of purchase, for mind change.

      of course you can.

Who will bear for return shipment cost and will there be any restocking fee?

if your postage wasn't free you will lose that money. they will send you a RMA and postage back is free, no restocking fee.

  • for the people that are complaining about the international fee, you might have missed this:

"Your bank may charge a cross-border or currency exchange fee.
By clicking "CONFIRM PURCHASE", you agree to the Google Store Sales Terms."

    That's just before "confirm purchase"

So next time you go to Woolies and they advertise prices in Aussie $ but process your cc overseas because it's cheaper you'll wear it?

We purchased from the Aussie Google store, they advertised in Aussie dollars and even charged us in Aussie dollars. Nowhere did it say they were processing it overseas so the text you've quoted means f all.

      • +1

As my previous post, it has always be the case. I think it is google Singapore is the one that you are buying from.

A couple of years ago they charged GST and they didn’t provide invoice. I think that has changed.

They should spell it out clearly, but if you check previous google deal, they always get changed the int fee

        • Well I hope the ACCC comes down on them for this. I have cards with no international transaction fees I would of happily used but nowhere does it give you the indication they are processing it internationally. On the invoice it evens says purchased from a Google Australia with an address in Sydney.

          • @matust: Choice did an article on this in 2015

It seems to be a common issue. ACCC response is also in the article.

            https://www.choice.com.au/shopping/online-shopping/buying-on…

How to avoid international transaction fees
Short of asking every retailer before you purchase their product or service if their merchant bank is offshore, the best way to avoid international transaction fees is with a card that doesn't charge the fee.

            • @GCSteve: Thanks but I do have another credit card specifically for not paying international transaction fees. Google has just done a good job of hiding that this is the case. Yes they have disclaimer saying my bank may charge cross border fees but my point is there is no indication that it was a cross border transaction. Their business address was in Australia, the website is .com.au, they priced it in Aussie dollars, they even charged my cc in Aussie dollars.

Anyway I am ranting but it's frustrating that it costs me $20 so they can save $1.

              • @matust: send it back, buy it with another credit card. it is their wrong doing not yours.

                • @snvl: Well it's going back anyway since I got a defective one. The model I want is out of stock and I don't have another code.

Probably won't help with getting the international credit card fee back either.

              • @matust: I got charged extra $20 too, it was a single transaction in my credit card statement

So, are we able to get back this $20? It’s annoying given that we bought from Australian store

                • @DarthLord: I am in email correspondence with them but haven't had any luck yet.

                  • @matust: Only some banks charge this fee. You could also try getting the bank to waive it. Best case scenario Google credit you for the fee, the bank waives it and you make a profit.

                  • @matust: Ok, please share if you have any success in claiming back the fees
                    I felt cheated

  • it seems that quite a few ozbargain members complained about the poor build quality of Pixel 3 / xl. Anyone else experience this and care to share what are those problems? or you managed to return and get full refund?

I'll be collecting my unit from LPO today and hope will be lucky to get a good unit.

    fingers crossed

By the way, does Google offer 2yrs warranty?

    • I mean ozbargainers always find something to complain about. But they mainly have gripes with the design, not the build quality.

Yes they offer 2 years warranty

    • IMO the build quality is indeed lacking. Taking into account the intended $1300+ price tag I'd rate it as terrible.

      1. I bought a white one and there are chips in the white paint under the rear glass. Basically black specks in the white.

      2. The finger print sensor is well off center.

      • Hi Bob,

Do you have pictures of the off-centre? I feel like I have the same issue but not as bad as the other ones I can find online.

        Thanks

  • Would JB price match this?

    • tried with JB VIC narre, nope..but some guy manage to get it match with JB in Brisbane

  • oh come on missed this and now no stock. needed the pixel for the camera.

  • Anyone still waiting on a "delayed" order? I ordered last Sunday and it's still marked as delayed. I emailed support on Thursday but no reply yet.

    • Same !!! .

      • They've since removed the authorisation and said to reorder at full price and they'll refund the difference when it arrives. Lol.

        1. There is no stock
        2. I wouldn't trust them to refund the difference if they couldn't send the first order
        • I sent mine back as it was defective, they are meant to be sending me another but it's been over a week now so I think I'll be getting the same treatment

    • Did you ever receive your order? Mine still says delayed and it's been 3 weeks.

I got charged a $16.50 international payment fee to go with the cost of the phone…. Wtf

    • +2

"Your bank may charge a cross-border or currency exchange fee.
By clicking "CONFIRM PURCHASE", you agree to the Google Store Sales Terms."

This is the cross-border fee your bank has charged you.

      • +1

Where does it say what border it will be crossing so you can determine if there will be such a charge? AU store in AU dollars suggests that notice is for customers outside of AU.

      • +2

I think you miss the point. Most of us know that our banks will charge us for cross border transactions, the point is that Google gives us no indication that this was a cross border transaction. Everything about the purchase page indicates that it's a purchase within Australia.

  • Had a brand new 128Gb, had the known poor reception issue and was pretty much unusable for work. Got a brand new replacement and got rid of it promptly. I never learn so am waiting with abated breath for the 4 next month.

  • +4

Called my credit card company about the fee and they agreed to waive it on the basis that it was not clear to me that Google was using a UK bank account to process the transaction. Even though the amount paid was AUD, the mere fact that the bank account used to processed the transaction was located outside Australia triggers the international transaction fee.

Also called Google to give them a piece of my mind about lack of transparency in their payment confirmation process. A large multinational like them ought to make it clear that the transaction will be processed by an related overseas entity, which will very likely result in cross border fee, even though the amount is AUD and customers are purchasing the goods from Google Australia with tax invoice.

    • Which card was this on?

  • Ordered Pixel 3 128GB on 7/9/2019, still waiting for delivery, multiple contact with support team empty promises every time…… Anyone has the same issue?
