Echo Input adds Alexa to an external speaker and connects via 3.5 mm audio cable or Bluetooth.
With four microphones, Alexa hears you from across the room — even when music is playing.
Stream Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify, TuneIn and more on your favourite speaker. Services may require subscriptions or other fees.
Just ask Alexa to play a song, read the news or check the weather and traffic.
Set alarms and timers, add items to your to-do list and control compatible smart home devices.
Calling and Drop In via Bluetooth is currently not supported.
Alexa is always getting smarter and adding new skills. Track your fitness, play games or fall asleep to rain sounds.
Slim, low-profile design fits almost anywhere.
Speaker required
Echo Input requires an external speaker and connects via the included 3.5 mm audio cable or Bluetooth. Sonos speakers are not currently supported. It does not pair to Wi-Fi speakers. We recommend pairing with certified Bluetooth Speakers. Search speakers

Speaker power-saving mode and volume
Speakers connected by 3.5 mm audio cable may power off if not used for an extended period of time. When possible, we recommend turning off the speaker’s power-saving mode by following the manufacturer’s instructions.

When connecting Echo Input to your speaker, first increase the volume of the speaker. Then say, “Alexa, volume 7” or “Alexa, volume up”.

@askbargain: Yes, at Erasmus Hall High School

  • Probably asking to much but will this work with Yamaha YAS-108 soundbar?
I understand the Yamaha must be on all the time. Then, can I ask Alexa to play music from my Synology Nas?
I also still want the soundbar to output sound from tv when I turn on TV

    • If you already have a Alexa, you can pair it with your YAS-108 via bluetooth.

      • Yes but bluetooth is poor quality - this provides better - however there is a new device for audiophiles - just visit Amazon.

  • Will this device be able to switch on the soundbar/Hifi and switch it to the Bluetooth input? If not then doesn't surely it's not turning your "dumb" Hifi into a smart speaker?

  • I have a few Amazon Echo Dots at home. It cost around $37 for a dot and I connected one of them to an old speaker. I wonder if there's a market for this input device if Dot can do the job with additional functions.

    • The Echo input is generally cheaper, more compact, and just uses a micro USB port for power unlike the newer Dot.

It's also lower power, so you can plug it into any USB socket on your amplifier or powered speaker. No need for a high wattage AC adapter like the older Dots.

It's thin, light weight, and discreet enough that you can command-strip it onto surfaces or behind a speaker grille.
