Epson TW3500 1080p Cinema Projector (Inc Lamp) $899 + $7 from Epson Clearance Centre (SOLD OUT)

80

Its been some time since I last posted, but i think this is a good deal.

The TW3500 is the previous generation 1080P cinema projector from Epson, the current iteration of which is the TW3600, selling for around $2000 street and $1300 import.

When released in Sept 2009, RRP was $3500, street price $2900.
In June 2010 RRP dropped to $3000, street price $2500
In Sept 2010, TW3600 released at RRP $2500, street price $2000
June 2011, you decide whether $900 is a good price for TW3500.

Note that the factory second warranty has three notable differences compared to original warranty:

6month vs 2years
no warranty on lamp compared to 6mth
warranty requires you to post it to epson, as opposed to epson sending you a courier to pick it up.

Specs (true measured specs, as i've owned it before)
1800 lumens in dynamic mode
600 lumens in best colour mode
1:1300 contrast in best colour mode
1:6000 contrast in best colour mode with dynamic iris on (which i dont particularly recommend)

5units only. once that sells out its gone indefinitely.

includes new lamp… you dont have to pay 500 more

Edit: all gone

  • great price for a full HD projector and good brand

  • except the epson projector globs has a habit of exploding :(
good price but still a factory second.

    • i know you have a Benq wisc, brand envy? =P

(all pj globes explode at end of life)

      • nah, i did some research on this before i bought it, this was one i was thinking about, but apparantly the w6000 is in the next league…

        • its price is too =P

        • yeah but for the 2K that the cable connection was selling it for, it was about the same price as the local version of the epson… no brainer really…(though probably could have got the epson for about 1400 imported, the benq does bost much better specs, many reviews said one of the best projectors, to get anything better you'd need to spend a few more k)

only thing about the light cannon that is the w6000 is that its so damn big(not much smaller than my old CRT!)…. lucky its light i guess…

    • Had mine for 3 years on same globe, no explosion :)

      • wait for it to die… should be getting close :P

  • -1

Lamp is an optional extra at $499, and is not covered by warranty. Still a good price for a high end home product though.

    • what do you mean….

they all come with a new lamp

      • maybe it does include, but it doesn't say it does anywhere, and it lists the lamp as an 'optional extra' in specs, maybe thats misleading or Im missing something.

Excellent deal if it does include.

        • trust me, its included.

i've bought 4 projectors from this place =)

  • Price is OK but I'd be wary of these as the optical engines are known to fail. It has happened to two x500 series PJ I had and the replacement x600 series is starting to fail after 500 hours. The first two PJ's lasted 500 and 100 hours before failure. Thankfully the warranty on new units is good, but projectors are a pain to take down, send off and then re install, calibrate etc when you get it back.

Great picture though, nice and quiet and good throw distance.

    • very true issue.

my understanding is that they've known the fix since this year, as reported on dtvforums.net.au.

the problem was to do with some seal/glue that creeps into the projection, casting a shadow. supposedly they've corrected it in new models and repairs - but you might want to ring epson to find out. if you ask to talk to a service department technician, they're very friendly and helpful.

a dtv member also reports the fix to be about $200 out of warranty.

  • Guessing with 3d projectors now the norm, heaps of these will come down in price

    • the cheapest 3D cinema pj is the $4000 JVC X3.

the next cheapest is the $4000 Sony HW30 =P.

3D may be prevalent in TV, its certainly not true in PJ at this point. The coming year will see more first gen 3D projection, but basically they're 2-3years behind TVs.

      • 3Dish projectors are available fairly cheaply.

I just imported an Acer H5360. In combination with the Nvidia 3D Vision kit, I can play games and watch content in 3D from my HTPC.

        It's 720p however.

Projector cost me a little under $600 delivered. 3D Vision Kit is around $180.

If you want 3D projection, it is possible. 1080p is a bit more expensive.

…waiting for mine to be delivered!

        • true, which was why i specifically mentioned Cinema Pj ;)

          i.e. tw3500 or similar/better

  • Hi, I don't see on the site state that new lamp is included?

    • +2

i honestly did not think these questions would be asked. you're right, they didn't explicitly say that remote control, power cable, invoice, new lamp, packaging foam are included.

have you purchased a projector before? serious question. its an assumed inclusion to the product just like your car came with tank filler cap and radio antennae.

please ask epson directly if my words do not satisfy.

      • thx for ur clarification, i have to agree that you make a fair point. after my wife so tempted with this i hav purchased one, ty. Their payment process is terrible! Hate that stupid verify by visa.

        • +1

you're welcome! glad to be of help.

they'll likely post it on friday and you receive it on monday morning.

  • Great price and find - too bad the fun police will not let me upgrade to the TW4000 ($2500) :(

    • dont worry mate that one isn't worth it.

the tw4500 sells for 2k on there, and 5500 for 2.4k

if you keep an eye on that tw4000, it may reduce to $1500 any day now (they reduce by 40% after not selling an item for x amount of time)

      • Whats the difference between this one?

        • three model lines, the 3's 4's and 5's

          x000 is 09 model, x500 is 10 model, x600 is 11 model (current).

4's and 5's are identical image wise. only minor feature/look/warranty diff

3's vs 4's, the latter has better contrast and slightly better colour.

the newest models are comparatively more accurate/marginally better in general than the older ones. however you cant tell without side by side comp.

so the 3500 is the cheapest of 3500 4500 and 5500, but still very good as it was entry high-end (depends how you look at things.

      • hmmm ok… the misses is away for another 4 weeks…

I've got a TW600 that still goes very well (same globe after 3+ years with spare in cupboard), is TW600 vs TW4000 like chalk and cheese?

But I did like the review of a recent Sanyo or Panasonic that had improved interpolation for movement scenes

        • my impression of interpolation is that all the brands are equally good. they probably use the same processing chip.

the tw4000 will be markedly improved, but i'm not sure why you're so interested in that particular model. its 3years old, probably only worth $1000-1500 now.

if i was choosing tw3600 vs tw4000 for $1500, i'd still choose tw3600. its brighter, and colour is more accurate, but lacks the interpolation feature.

if your budget is really $2500, i suggest the tw5500 group buy on dtvforum. its got 3yrs of unlim Lamp warranty, and is a newer model than tw4000.

also bear in mind that new gen will be released across the board in Sept.

  • I remember paying over $2000 for my TW3000. Really nice projectors.

  • I've had my 3500 for almost a year now. Paid $2.5k for it. It's a great projector.

  • sold out now

  • D'oh! Just decided I'd give this a go.
