Don't forget it's often Tax Deductible too !!!!

(Disclaimer : talk to your accountant first…)

    • So if you company has locations in different states/coutries, and you travel to those locations work work, you can clean it as a work expense?

      • actually, Qantas club provide business facilities in their lounges, so unless you only do personal travel, you can generally claim the entire cost as a business expense…

if you pay within the next 2 days, you can usually claim the entire amount in your 2011 tax return… provided you do some of your travelling for business…

    Don't forget to drink lots..responsibly…

      Unless you're the pilot…

  • Admirals Club is still cheaper and last I checked on whirlpool their club is going down the drain.

    • Sorry meant to say priority pass https://www.prioritypass.com/Join/What-it-costs.cfm

"The Lounge will no longer accept Priority Pass cardholders effective 01AUG2011".

Pretty much means this will be useless in Australia

        • Damn those devils. Oh well, I only use these things internationally.

    • cheaper yes but doesn't provide QC access

  • Isn't it free anyway for business class?

    • Yes, free access if you're travelling Business class and for Gold/Platinum members.

  • Do you have to be flying Qantas to use the Qantas Club if you've got a membership?

    • Yes, or a OneWorld Partner Airline (AA, BA, etc) or Jetstar (domestic lounges and a couple of international lounges)

    • Terms and conditions state:

"10.1 Subject to these Terms and Conditions, Qantas Club Members are entitled to access the Qantas Club lounge in the departure port when the Member's next onward flight on that day is with Qantas, QantasLink or Jetstar."

If your workplace has a corporate rate, then its better if you sign up through your work as it will be cheaper than this deal.
Also recently Qantas has changed their check in procedures, you used to be able to queue up in the business queue for priority check in, you cant do this anymore and have to line up with everyone else. However the new Q tag and Qcheckin is suppose to be the new way to check in, it actually works well.

On a good note you can use the British airways and American airlines club, used them on my last around the world. The only thing about the AA club is you have to buy your own stuff while you are in there anyway. Cathay wont let you into theirs nor did iberia.

    • QF corporate rates are around $620 IIRC, so less than full price but still not as good as this offer.

      • Must depend on the corporate plan, ours until 30th June is still
        $200 initial joining fee +
        $260 1 year
        $435 2 year

  • Good deal if you're not travelling business class or don't have gold/plat QFF status

  • The business lounge in Singapore is quite nice. Lucky enough my gold FF gets me in regardless.

geez it's getting expensive, I got life membership about 5yrs ago for $2500
Good if you fly Jetstar, the flight pays for itself when you have half a dozen Chivas
& you can bring in a friend to.

    • Damn that is a good long term investment.

Hate to break the news to you, but it's actually not. Let me explain. If this guy had invested that $2500 at say, 8% 5 years ago, he would now have $3673. So his lifetime membership has cost him $734 a year over that 5 year period. After 10 years, that $2500 would be worth approx. $5400 (working out to $540/year). After 15 years, $528/year. After 20 years, $582/year!! That's right - after 20 years, the annual costs actually start going up - meaning you are probably better off just paying year by year. I'm sure Qantas has invested that $2500 wisely and are making alot more than the membership is actually worth.

Let me put it another way. Let's say someone pays $1610 for their 4 year offer listed above. Assuming investment at the same rate, it works out to $547/year - much less than this guy paid in his first 4 years ($850/year).

quite true, perhaps not to be considered an investment in the general sense, but average (frequent travelling) consumer is going to see this as well I have $2500 right now, let me pay it, claim deductions, and not have to worry about paying more for the rest of my life, because in their mind they see ok, I pay $2500 now and after 10 years, all I've paid is $2500, whereas if I pay by year, then after 10 years it's $8400 (assuming they renew in non-promotional periods and their is no increase in the annual fee cost).

I think windsurfer's excitement was based on the fact supabrudda makes good use of his membership by knocking back the "good stuff", which if you do enough of (responsibly), eat up and make use of the facilities as a frequent business traveller $2,500 initial outlay is very worthwhile. Especially down the track when your older, in retirement, possibly not earning that much, and arrive earlier than you've ever been to any airport, with hours to kill - you can walk into the qantas lounge with a smile on your face and enjoy a feed and a few drinks while the grandkids go and buy their $30 happy meals :)

        • nice try, but the $2500 is for lifetime membership…

if the return on $2500 is 8% as per your example, that would be only $200 per year… Much cheaper than the $470 per year, paying on a year by year basis…

        • JV - you are ignoring the compounding effect of interest. Let's compare the two. Person 1 pays $2500 for lifetime. Person 2 pays $470/year. After 10 years, person 2 has paid $4700. Person 1, on the other hand, has paid $2500, but lost a potential $2900 in interest, so they have ended up effectively paying $5400 - more than the $4700 the other guy paid over 10 years.

        • JV - you are ignoring the compounding effect of interest.

          no I'm not…

lifetime memberships is by far the cheapest option…

do the calcs and you will see…

lol guess you were bored at work?

  • There are various sites out there (Australian Frequent Flyer springs to mind) that if you pay to become a gold member of their website ($50 iirc) they'll let you join their corporate program (not sure of the costs as I'm a Platinum Frequent Flyer so I don't need to pay for access) but it's a legitimate way of getting into the corporate program meaning that when you renew, you're going to pay a lot less (even though this deal is good, when it comes around to renewal, you'll be coughing up normal retail prices if you're not in a corporate scheme).
