Boost Refurb iPhone 7 vs Moto G7 Plus

I’ve been looking at getting my wife a Motorola G7 plus to replace her iPhone SE and just saw the Boost refurb deal for an iPhone 7 at $341.
The G7 plus is $358 so pretty much the same price.
If it was for me I’d grab the G7 plus but I’m just wondering if the iPhone 7 is still a decent phone even as a refurb as my wife is used to IOS.

She’s not a gamer, just basic browsing and taking pics/ videos of our kids.
Probably the best suited feature of IOS is videos being so easy to send via email or iMessage.
I find Android not as simple. In fact I tend to use PhotoSync and transfer videos from my Android to my iPad, then email or iMessage from there.

  • i would take G7 plus (2019 release) anytime. iPhone 7 (2016 release?) is way too old + it's a refurb + performance throttling issues in newer iOs.

i have never owned an iPhone myself, had never believed the hype surrounding Apple products. YMMV

  • How quickly will your wife figure out the differences in the two phones (or ecosystem perhaps) and how much time do you want to devote to help?
The iPhone 7 is fine, she'll be able to use it just like the SE and you basically won't need to help out other than with the initial transfer.
On the other hand she may be more than happy to swap to a new system and is more than capable of managing it on her own.

Get the iPhone 7. The last few years of iPhone updates have been pretty insignificant in terms of real-world day-to-day performance - meaning the iPhone 7 is still quite fast compared to today's iPhones. My iPhone 7 Plus that I got on launch day is still rock solid and i'm struggling to find a good excuse to upgrade.

Android phones are fantastic for about a year or 2 (usual length of a phone contract). Then the manufacturer completely forgets that they ever made the phone, they stop releasing software updates and fixing bugs. Most people on phone contracts don't care because they'll already have a new phone by that point - but people who buy phones outright in cash and upgrade every 3,4+ years get completely screwed over.

  • I've looked at those refrub phones on their site, and you need to go into it realising that they are NOT apple refurbished which usually gives brand new exterior, battery etc .. These are second hand units +/-scratches etc … They most likely will not have 100% battery health. See below. If you do get one, would love to hear how it went as it is tempting as a phone for daughter dearest…

REFURBISHED MEANS YOU PHONE IS PRE-OWNED

A refurbished phone is a gently used, authentic phone that has undergone intensive testing and inspection to ensure it is in great working condition. The phone may have minor surfaces scratches or scuffs, but this will in no way affect the function of the phone.

Our partner Alegre, sources only Australian compliant phones that have been data wiped and cross checked against a national police lost and stolen database. They perform an industry leading 72 point check to ensure that the phone performs at a high standard.

  • Any issues with the SE? If not, I’d hang onto it as it’s a very capable phone having the guts of a 6S (only one gen before the 7). You’d have to get an X or 8 to see a big difference…
