I hear ya. It’s a shame this router has to be so horrid. I guess it could live in a cupboard
Hide it among a cactus garden
just don't put it 'legs down' and it won't try to escape
I know a Decepticon when I see one.
I got this at Xmas (for $440) and it has been very very stable and reliable. Had a Netgear R8000 before and it was unstable, needed to be reset about once a week as the radios would stop working or the unit would just stop responding completely. The 5400X resolved all those issues and speed is phenomenal in a two storey house. Can get reception all the way in the street.
The only issue is that Tplink doesn't release firmware updates very often so I am not sure about long term support.
This is very old tech. The Viet Cong used this in booby-traps.
Too soon
I guess those antennae offered a very different kind of reception.
Came here just for the antenna comments lol
Sick of my wifi on my dlink 2888A is this worth it for a router and use the dlink as a modem?
worth it
Are you for real? This is OZBargain, and you are asking whether a wifi router ever worth $400?
Find out whether it is your other device is faulty or not set up first, but in my personal experience ISP/under $100 modems from reputable brands are decent for home use
The Dlink 5ghz is practically unusable from 1m away and the 2.4 struggles
See if you can update or flash custom firmware. I was prepared to murder my Telstra Gateway ages back but the culprit was my usb wifi dongle, replaced it with a pci-e internal wireless card and happy days
Dlink are pretty crap.
Agreed, there are plenty of really good quality sub-$100 routers out there.
Sounds like yours is broken, @starry001.
The photo with the ethernet ports makes this thing look huge!
Because it is huge.
All this money and it isnt even AX Still AC. What the actual F!
The C5400 is under $300. Plain old black.
Does it include one way ticket for teleportation to Mars?
Ridiculous to buy this over Ubiquiti. Like what a little kid would think is good. Equivalant of putting a Chevvy badge on your Holden.
^ No point on spending money on "high end" networking gear when you can get enterprise gear for the same price.
Ubiquiti is good starting point. If you want to received firmware update (Security/software fixes) down the line none of consumer gear will provide this.
Are you seriously calling Ubiquiti enterprise gear?
Ubiquiti is good, but enterprise gear - LOL
Probably mixed definition on enterprise. If enterprise = any business which is what I think then sure this is enterprise. If you mean enterprise = large business then sure you'd definitely be better with something like Aruba or Cisco.
Never said specifically Ubiquiti was enterprise. It more like semi-enterprise gear for small business but it has been getting deploy is some bigger business and public areas.
It by far the more affordable compare to actual enterprise but not every client can afford them.
I've got the Netgear R8000 and it's still receiving updates after 3 years.
Last firmware updates was last year. Let wait and see.
I have a unifi security gateway that sits in a cupboard as it has less features and grunt than my asus rt-68u. I run unifi AP though which are good.
Depending on the FW, home routers can be better than ubiquiti gear unless you really want to spend time setting it up.
Yes I am talking about wifi their routers are overpriced crap.
It doesn't have enough antennas.
As someone who really wants to get a router, should I get this? Still using adsl2+ and NBN will be available around mid 2020.
Wait for a ISP one or buy a used Telstra smart modem v2 off Gumtree
What's the difference between the C5400 and the C5400X?
Other than appearance, the C5400X has 8 gigabit ethernet ports whereas the C5400 has 4
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/compare/TP-Link_C5400_vs_TP-L…
A couple of other minor differences in the comparison above
ALso the C5400X has a 1.8ghz CPU vs 1.4ghz in the C5400

Bear in mind too that these are both now superceded by the AX6000 and AX11000, both of which have 8 LAN ports and a 1.8ghz CPU.

$339.15 seems like a good price…
I am getting $387.03
WHat code do you use for that?
Either way not bad
@aussietivoman: Ah I see it now - EBAY PLUS ONLY
@aussietivoman: Yes, using code Panther with eBay plus.

Apologies, notice that you have posted a new deal (:
@Springfield: Sadly they didnt send me the $1 subscription offer
Yeah I listed it as a deal with clear credit to you.
The AX is a better buy than this AC.
I think my nephew got one of these free with his Skylanders game
No thanks. I'd be scared of this thing coming to life.
