  • That's great for the price.

I'd say it's more of a low tier gaming laptop. GPU isn't very good.

I wouldn't even call this laptop mid tier, struggles with 1080p gaming in pretty much every title.

    • Though is this OK for the price? Price to specs-wise?

Trying to get my boyfriend something new as his current laptop is dreadful and he doesn't really game that much, if ever. Wonder if this is OK.

Think about what would be a priority for him, portability or performance? Gaming laptops are heavy and bulky (eg this is 2.7kg) but the dedicated graphics card will allow games and programs such as video editing software to be run faster and better. If he doesn't use the laptop for such things, then look for a laptop with the following specs:
        - Full HD screen (not just HD) 1920x1080
        - Under 2kg weight
        - Either 14 or 15 inch screen
        - 8GB RAM and above
        - SSD memory 128GB (more typical for under $1k) and above
        - Core i5 or Ryzen 5 and above

      • I dunno. The cheap GTX 1650 laptops start from just $200 more, and can be on sale for the same price. Those are a massive step up from this

I don't understand why people make comments like this without any proof. For it's price, it performs pretty well. Did you have a look at the Notebookcheck review. In relation to gaming there is not much difference between the 2500u and 2700u CPU. The RX560 performs pretty well at low/med settings in gaming at 1080p. I state this whilst referring https://www.notebookcheck.net/Acer-Nitro-5-Ryzen-7-2700U-Rad…. 66fps in Fortnite is pretty decent at medium settings, 1080p, and this review was in early 2018 before AMD starting releasing Radeon drivers for Ryzen mobile.

      • What proof do you even need, if you remotely know about gaming then this is pretty much useless.

1200 on a gaming desktop will easily triple your performance in any games. Ask yourself do you need a laptop. 66 fps in fortnite is pretty poor considering it isn't an extremely demanding game. Any other triple A title it struggles to get more than 60 fps even on low settings in 1080p. In addition average frames don't tell the full story. Are there significant frame drops in between scenes or even looking at different objects, a poor GPU like the RX560x which only costs $50USD at wholesale isn't going to compare to a 1060 which I would consider to be a medium spec gaming experience. As a multimedia machine Rx560 is fine.

Wasn't it $100 cheaper just a couple of days ago? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/477046

How is it cheaper if it was $1004?
