Pretty decent deal for the Grey Switch.
Sorry for the short post.
There's a new version? I didn't even know about that. Is there any link/info about it?
I only know about the downgraded / mini version and the upgraded pro version or something.
Much better battery life.
"Nintendo's internal revamp of the original modular Switch looks to offer between 50 and 100% more battery life at 4.5 to 9 hours — the original Switch, per Nintendo, lasts 2.5 to 6.5 hours."

TLDR: New edition have red box instead of red+white. Model number HAC-001(-01) instead of just HAC-001.
Thanks for the link
Sorry for the short post.
No need to apologise. Short and concise is all that is required. No need for a huge essay.
I think he was just trying to reach the minimum word count
Amen. Infinitely better that the ones that start:
"After many days and nights of negotiations with my very good friends at XYZ Corp, I am tremendously proud to announce this amazing exclusive deal for this community of…blah blah self-congratulating blah blah"
Or "Hey ya'll, it's ya boy XYZ proudly presenting you with another deal to thank ya'll for your ongoing support blah blah blah"
God damn, these (profanity) Switch deals are great.
Already had one since midnight day one, and the missus has had her's for probably a year (think we paid 360/380 for that new), but holy shit, I might buy one for my grandmother who's never played a video game in her life, it's just such good value.
You and missus has different one? Wow switch family eh?
Yeah man. Hit me up when you do. I’d love to play some games with your granny.
hey its me your granny
"Where's my damn switch, sonny?!?"
Whoa, uncle Rico!
Haven't seen you since that incident at the family gathering in 2007.
@cnut: Back in '82, I used to be able to toss a pigskin a quarter of a mile…
Does anybody know how they got the better battery life out of the switch ? Was it simply a better battery? Or have they under locked the CPU or some other funny business to get the better battery life
More energy efficient processor, should have no performance difference. Battery is the same capacity.
I guess my main concern is does "more energy efficient processor" mean less powerful xD Clever marketing
Nah, SOC (system on a chip) is produced on a newer, smaller (and hence more power efficient) manufacturing process. Lower power consumption for same performance.
The lower power consumption allows for either the same performance with lower power use (what is being done in the switch), or higher performance at the same power use (thermal limits will only be hit at a higher clock speed due to the chip being more efficient).
@CountDuckula: Apparently its a drop from 20nm manufacturing down to 16nm manufacturing, which is not as big of a drop as I had hoped given that we are now dropping down to 12nm, 10nm and 7nm in the PC world. the new chip has the same CPU clocks as the first gen but the GPU clocks have a new rated max of 1.267ghz compared to the first gen which was rated at 1ghz but only used at 921mhz on the switch in docked mode, lower in portable mode. Whether or not nintendo have boosted the GPU higher in the docked state has yet to be tested, most likely they are just doing the nintendo thing and keeping performance the same, better battery life and fixing the bugs.
Mid cycle updates like this have given us the Xbox slim, PS whatever slim, etc. They run just as fast, but they're smaller and output less heat (so less cooling required) and use less power
Performance should be identical, its just advancements in cooling and power management that allow it to be more efficient.
It also "fixed up" some security issues with boot loaders, so if your someone who wants to modify their console I would go with the older one.
@Han Solo: It's not "just" cooling and power management, it's actually more efficient processing too.
Thanks for explaining it guys!
New screen too apparently.
It may be a new screen (the igzo tech). I'm not sure if this is confirmed yet?
new processor with better efficiency
Supposedly, at some point in the future, a newer Switch with maybe a Sharp display, and again maybe higher definition screen will be released, possibly with the moniker Switch Pro.
Honestly I thought that a Pro model would be released this year, as if it’s released next year it will have to compete with both the new XB and PS releases, particularly if it’s released later in the year.
Then again, who knows. Nintendo is always so cagey with release information it becomes infuriating.
So this doesn’t have the new screen?
This has a very slightly modified screen. Dunno who makes it but the color temp is a bit warmer and a smidge brighter.
Apparently it's slightly brighter (I think 290nits on the old and 310nits on the new) and a warmer colour profile. It's a more accurate screen in terms of colour temperature.
Nice. Nothing to waste money upgrading for, but good to have on top of the battery life.
"At some point in the future", people last year were saying to hold out for this years one. If you want one now, just get it now, and if the new one is good enough for you to make the switch, then just sell your old one and buy the new version with upgraded internals. The switch doesn't really lose value that badly from what I've seen anyway. There's always something new coming out
I remember doing this for my first desktop PC.
"you can wait a few months for the next gen of CPU to come out and the price drop for the previous gen"
"you can wait a few months for the new AMD / Nvidia graphics cards to come out"
If I had followed that advice, I would have a PC without a graphics card, or a PC without a CPU lol
Agreed. Unless there is a definite release date and its within a subjective reasonable amount of time - there really is no point waiting for the next version. Always gets outdated so quickly!
I’m currently looking to upgrade some parts and this is exactly how it feels haha
Yep, this. Who knows when, or even if the big N will release a Pro version. I totally agree puzzles2.
All the grey makes me sad like when I watch one of those DC movies.
Updated Nintendo Switch(not Lite) has different packaging, Google it.
Got excited until realised old model.
$430.91 for the improved battery version: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-Switch-Neon-Joy-Con-Con…
Ooof, Jack has played with the price yet again.
Nintendo haven't even officially announced the release date for the new and improved battery version yet - or many people call it "pro" version
It's already in stores with red boxes. Also on Amazon.
oops you're right haha
do you think there will be a better deal on the new version in the next month?
Better than the first and only price seen so far?
Yes. Yes I do…
Yeah just wait for a 15% or 20% off ebay coupon when everyone has the red box Switch. I'd be surprised if it isn't sub $400 before the end of the year.
Tempted to get it so I can play Fire Emblem. But I'll convince myself that I can wait for the newer Switch with my growing backlog of untouched Steam games.
Is this just for Ebay Plus members then?
Make sure it's the new model with double battery life.
looks like its sold out? I cant add a qty 1 or anything without it glitching
It's out of stock now.
They listed new ones at a higher price ($368 discounted) instead.
It's still available. Just got one, thank you OP!
Looks like it is sold out
Heads up, EB Games has the new model Switch with the improved battery on their eBay store now. Only the grey one right now, and only in a $469 bundle with two games that they're probably trying to get rid of:
https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Nintendo-Switch-Grey-Console-2-G…
Can anyone with Plus check if the PANTHER code works on this one?
EDIT - Checked it myself, and it does. $469 down to ~400ish, and it looks like you'd get maybe $40 for selling the two games. I'm sure there'll be better deals over the next few weeks but this is good enough for me right now. I need something to play Astral Chain on in a couple of weeks :P
For those wondering, this is NOT the revised version with the improved battery life.
