Sandisk 16gb Ultra Backup USB Flash Drive for sale by Shop-Xpress

ABN: 13 126 060 491

Also they're authorised Sandisk resellers - see here http://sandisk.com.au/retail-buy.aspx\

EDIT: According to some websites these flash drives get 22MB/s read and 8MB/s write - a big improvement over the regular cruzer blade 16gb - which a friend of mine has. They get about 3MB/s read and 16MB/s write.

EDIT EDIT: I've purchased more than once from these guys before, they're a great company and i can recommend them to all

  • Mate I got 3 from MLN for 23$ each.
there is no bargain there at all.
this looks like an ads for me.
    CHEERS

  • Appears these drives are a bit slower than you'd hope: http://usbspeed.nirsoft.net/?g=16gb. Anywhere between 7-10MB/s.

The A-DATA TRX-200 is about ~$28 pp but quote much higher read/write speeds even over USB 2.0 - see this for example

  • HN is currently seeling 16gb Toshiba USB drives for $19, and theres heaps of stock left in the Martin Place store.

    • You have to remember those toshiba 16gb flash drives aren't anywhere nearly as reliable as Sandisk, they're probably using slower memory. I think i remmeber seeing somewhere that they got about 3MB/s write and 12MB/s read

EDIT: 4MB/s write and 17MB/s read

      • Having used the Toshiba one just yesterday to transfer a shitload of files I can verify the write speed tops out at more like 3.4 MB/s and dips as low as 2.8.

  • I got an 8gb for 8 bucks at clive peeters yesterday

  • Sorry, my bad. Considering it's a Sasmsung though, and they retail for alot, i though it was a good deal. And yes, on that website it looks like they get 7MB/s write and 25MB/s read.

  • I'm getting around 6 to 9 MB/s real world write speeds (copying ~300MB files from HD > Ultra Backup) with the 8GB version I bought in the uniquemobiles deal. Better than my Blade but nothing to brag about.

The thing that surprised me was the build quality - for something labelled Sandisk "Ultra" it feels a bit cheap and plasticky, with a retraction mechanism that's not as smooth and solid as old school Cruzers.

    • Thanks for the input - guess I was wrong. Stupid fake MyMemory benchmarks lol. I had a chat to their customer service lady yesterday because they were stating that Integral 16gb Micro SDHC class 4's could get 15MB/s write and 20MB/s read. She then said that these were with optimal performance, yet i insisted that they just won't reach thay speed because the inbuilt memory chip just isn't that fast.

Back on topic - Looks like I won't get the Ultra Backup then. What read speeds do you get?

  • I just ran a read/write benchmark on my Cruzer Micro 8gb

    9.89MB/s write

    23.0MB/s read

Guess there'd be no performance benefit upgrading to an Ultra Backup then.

  • The only benefit of the Ultra Backup is the 'one touch' button which basically kicks off a sync. Not bad if you're trying to get some novices into backing-up important data such as photos and documents. Still wouldn't trust any backup on cheap flash memory like this, but it's a start.

  • The backup software is only 30 days trial.
