that a good price for the specs

  • that a good price for the specs

  • Damn that's cheap.

This MLN one is probably a tad better value…

    https://www.mln.com.au/product/?itemID=1291&typeID=special

tad faster CPU, more HDD space and double the ram for $20…

Then again if you HAVE to have discrete graphics (even if its an obsolete one)…and whether you want 14" vs 15.6"

    • Is that HM55 Intel graphics the 2000 or 3000 or something else? From what I can see on Anandtech the 2000 and 3000 in the i3 and i5 are actually not bad for integrated graphics. The trouble is they never tell you the model number :(

      • Unfortunately the MLN one isn't the 2000 or 3000

Those come with sandy bridge CPUs ( the ones with 4 digits )

The one in the MLN link is an old arrandale CPU which has a crappy integrated gpu

Of course it's this cheap. Integrated graphics.

    Finally, a 14" Core i3 laptop under $500!

I'd buy if I had the money… sigh.

    • I hear you!
I'm saving up for a massive upgrade on my desktop from Conroe to Sandy Bridge or Bulldozer.

However, I really want a laptop too considering how cheap they are. These prices are making it very difficult to save for a PC >_<

  • Got this laptop. I bought it on discount (cotd deal) with bag under $700. Prices have certainly dropped.

Seems like a good deal. HDMI out. Wireless N + Blutooth. There's also an option to upgrade to 8GB for $69, which isn't that bad considering they have to replace 2x2GB sticks with 2X4GB.

  • and it has an eSata/usb port :)
nice ! most likely its a 5V port - and wont support 12V esata but you never know.
i opted for the Ram upgrade too

  • I have the exact same laptop. Bought it about 7-8 months ago off COTD for $770 with an extra years warranty. Its a nice machine though mine overheats all the time now and just turns off. Have not been able to give it in for repairs because it was half way through the uni semester and I needed it. It seems to run hot in general, especially compared with my parents 15.6" and 17" laptops which dont give off much heat at all, this almost burns off its sides. Maybe I just have a faulty unit.

    • Can anyone else comment on the heating issue? I'm very close to buying this for my girlfriend but will pass if its going to burn her legs. Have tried finding reviews to no avail… If I do find anything I'll report back but would love to hear from other owners as a few people above said they own this laptop.

      • Mine does produce some heat, with the fan coming on and off, although not having another laptop to compare not sure if this is normal or not. It doesn't turn off due to it though. Seems fairly solidly built otherwise. I do take care not to cover the left hand air vent.

        • Thanks for the feedback. I might hold off and wait for something else. This would be fine for me but I don't think my other half will like it getting hot.

  • Damn procrastination, sold out. Item removed from cart T.T

Any chance of me still getting this deaL?

    • Yes we have last 2 left currently

      • mine has arrived :)
am in initial Boot sequence and Recovery Wizard is asking 64 bit or 32bit .. i dont know !! lol
can you tell me which windows_7 OS is pre-installed please :)

        • +1

You want 64-bit to take advantage of your 4gb of memory.

  • arggh !!
you are sooo right . lol
came with 32bit pre-installed - and i opted for the extra ram as well .. will have to look for a 64bit Win7 now …
Currently recognising 2.99 Gb — as seen in Device Manager — but might have to look at that later.
computer seems great so far .. but haven't really checked anything yet as its still in the Create Recovery Media process (4x DVD!).

    • 32bit pre-installed - and i opted for the extra ram as well.

You'll definitely want the 64bit version then. You're wasting 4.5GB of your 8GB of memory.

It should have asked you when you turned it on what version you wanted, or at the very least, have included the 64bit version on a DVD / restore partition.

Perhaps Centrecom can help you out changing versions. You should sort this out ASAP as anything you put on the 32bit install will get wiped when you change to 64bit.

  • cheers mr C .. no indicators for a select choice of alternative bit Version on first boot - that i noticed anyway ..

    • Factory Reset :
power On - whilst holding down the 0 key.
woohoo — its back to the original option screen to choose between OS'es :)
