  • Wow a top end product. There's a long list of features on the website but can someone outline the main features in layman language, perhaps giving an example? Does it mean that I could possibly watch a movie on my TV off from the external drive hooked up to this router?

If you want to watch movie on TV Via external Drive, you may need this

    • Does it mean that I could possibly watch a movie on my TV off from the external drive hooked up to this router?

if your TV is network ready, perhaps…

  • Darn it - just bought last week for $190 - thought I had a bargain but this is great!

  • just to confirm are they USB 3.0 or USB 2.0 ports? On specs it says 2.0? http://www.netgear.com/home/products/wirelessrouters/high-pe…

    • Got this model. Usb 2.

  • How is this better than the amazing Billion 7800N Gigabit Modem Wireless N Router available for $160 available all the time?

    • Well, looking at the specs, this one has 2 USB ports, whereas the Billion doesn't.

    • The Billion has no dual band (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz).

Something comparable would be Asus RT-N56U, which is $20-30 more, and has no modem. Reliability wise I don't know.

    • Billion doesn't do DLNA and isn't dual band.

  • Do you guys think Commscope cat6 cable good quality enough for gigabit network?

    • Yes cat 6 is more than you need.

You only need cat5 for gigabit.

      • Cat5e is minimum for gigabit I thought?

  • is the router available for this price in store? i'm right near a centrecom store and want to avoid paying postage

  • Meh.

    Two things:
    1. MSY has it cheaper at $155 according to StaticIce and I can pick it up from a few places.
    2. The 4000 model will be out any day now in Australia (may be out already).
    Amazon certainly has it: http://www.amazon.com/NETGEAR-Wireless-Gigabit-Router-WNDR40…

I think you are looking at the wrong model. For $155 you are only getting model "WNDR3700" which is just a router. But this post is for model "DGND3700" which is a modem router, so it has a built-in modem. And the model from the Amazon link is also just a router but if Netgear is releasing a new router only model, they will probably release the modem router soon.

You are right - I am wrong.
The Netgear misspelling on the title threw me off - thought the model number etc were wrong too.
Apologies - a good deal indeed.

What's shipping to sydney like? I hate websites that don't have a postcode shipping estimator.

    • $18

  • That's an awesome price, this is a top class router! I've had mine for 3 months, no hassles at all. I'm an ex Nortel Networks tech (LAN design) and I wouldn't choose anything else for it's bang for buck at home.

  • Nice. If it only had VOIP I'd buy one.

  • "Gigabit Ethernet (1000MB/sec)"

    Lol, try 125MB/sec

    • Actually 134.22 MB/Sec :P

      • Google calculators response:

        1 (Gb / sec) = 128 MB / sec

        :p

  • Just a couple of things.

This router / adsl2 modem has DLNA, which means if you have a DLNA enabled device you can watch video, photos and music directly from the router / modem. This includes your PS3 or Xbox as well. This is very handy and good for energy savings, since you don't need a seperate PC / NAS to perform this function.

I have read on a few sites that people have had problems with their Internet connection dropping out on this model, anyone with this device able to comment on that?

    • I have the WNDR3700 which (I believe) is exactly the same thing without the modem part.
If it's the same interface as mine, I can comment:
I find it really good and easy to use.
NAT rules, static IPs are easy to set up.

      I don't have any dual-band wireless-N devices, only single-band wireless-N and wireless-G devices.
The best speed I get to my N laptop is 70-80Mbits/second but is usually around 50Mbits/second, at around 10 metres from the router.

I have managed to stream to my Squeezbox Boom at the back of my backyard, which is approx 20-25 metres away from the router and thru several plaster walls & 1 brick wall. But that's only streaming mp3s so not a difficult job.
I have gigabit wired set up to stream from my PC to PS3, no issues with data transfer there streaming really large HD files.

Final note, it looks bloody good.

  • I believe this does not do IPTV

  • I got a Fritzbox 7390 instead, these things are awesome !!!

    http://www.fritzbox.com.au/product-fritz-wlan7390.html

mind you, it costs twice as much though…

  • any VPN capabilites?

    • It does not look like it.

I would buy a router than can run DD-WRT or one of the other custom operating systems.

They let you do much more with the unit than you could do with the original operating system on it.

      • its just a shame that there are no DD-WRT compatible modem routers :(

        • I did not know that!

But you can always use a cheap modem and then a dd-wrt router but that might cost as much as a vpn enabled modem/router

    • No, but for $50 more @Umart(Pickup is free) you can get the Billion 7402NX - ADSL2+/3G & HSPDA USB/300N/IPTV/16x VPN/GBit
I've run 6 different tunnels around Australia with this thing and it doesn't miss a beat.

    • If you're after that router-only model, U-mart has it for $159.
I got mine about a year ago for about $180.

  • The one officework selling is Router only, DGND3700 is Modem + router

    http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?sort=2a… $187 only <— we beat $99 LOL

    • Hi is pick up available for $169 at the Nunawading store?

      • If you can get to Mt Waverley, you can get it pick-up for $159 at Umart.

        edit:
Sorry, just realised you're not talking about the WNDR3700.
The DGND3700 is more expensive at Umart.

  • Price is back up to $229.00 :(

Was just about to hit the confirm button when I noticed the price had changed within the checkout.

  • I have no idea how this website does it's maths but…

I went ahead and check out
    Origina price is $205.70
The $60 off only provided me with $20 discount
So in the end I was asked to pay $185.70

    Misleading title?

    Will neg it for now!

  • highball - the price might have gone up to $229 but the discount still gets you down to $169 before shipping.

Just ordered one as I was looking for a new gigabit router to go with the HP Proliant Server bought last month.

    Nice deal Centrecom!

  • If you have ever owned Netgear product, you should know they are among the worst qulity. Never get this rubbish.
