Hey everyone, I’ve seen in the upcoming Aldi catalogue there’s a treadmill for $600 not sure of the quality of it though I’ve also seen these on eBay.

Not sure on the quality of these any tips I finding a cheap but good quality one. I work and also study so I haven’t had time to go gym hopefully this can help me with getting back to my fitness goals and lose a bit of extra pounds as I enjoy the treadmill with a nice movie running aswell

  • I would have a serious look at Endurance Treadmills - a local company with a great reputation.

After researching treadmills for over a year, and waiting for the right one to come along at the right price, I went with them them a couple of months ago, and I've been very impressed with the quality of the treadmill I bought, and with the service.

The one I bought was above the price range you're looking at - the Spirit at $999.

However they have a couple in the price range you're looking at - the Bondi at $499, and the Fit at $649.

Similar quality, I would think - just slightly lower specs.

    • Will look into it and check out reviews, thank you.

Having owned a couple, the inconvenience of going to a gym is worth putting up with.
Treadmills simply aren't built to last, sooner or later the belt or motor dies and costs nearly the same as a new machine to replace. Better to pay $300/yr for a gym membership and use their $2000+ machines without worrying about them wearing out.

    • Thank you for letting me know I wasn’t aware of that issue, I might save my money. The gym I go to only problem is it only has 5 treadmills and 80% of the time it’s always taken that’s the only annoying thing about it.

      • You could find a different gym with more treadmills?

      It's called basic maintenance.

We had one for 10+ years and it still worked, just needed to be oiled once as the belt was making noises.

I would rather run outside and spend those $$ on a healthy diet or some fitness training

    • For some reason when I run outside I get really bad shin splint, is it related to form or my flat feet?

      • Better shoes needed?

        • I’ve got a pair of ultraboost not sure how good they are, if you run do you know any you can reccomend are ASICS gel any good?

          • @Hardyz100: I don't run anymore, but I used to always go with Asics, but they always seemed to suit my foot better than any of the others.

I would definitely suggest getting a proper shoe fitting than just finding a cheap pair somewhere on sale. You might save some money initially but you'll spend it all on physio and stuff when you're ankles and knees go down the toilet.

          • @Hardyz100: Do you get shin splints when running on a treadmill, too? or have you only tried running outside?

ASICS Gel Kayano are what I swear by, they are great.

when I run outside I get really bad shin splint

Don't overstride, otherwise when you land, you are actually applying break force which would in term cause shin splint. On the treadmill due to limited space you tend to take shorter stride with higher cadence. Do the same when you run outside.

        • Agreed… you should be landing on the front mid of your foot under your hips instead of landing of your heel out in front of you. Play some music at 180-190bpm and run in time with the music as that will help get the timing.

For shoes, it could be worth going to a sports podiatrist to get your running technique analysed in slow motion video so you know which type of shoes are best for your pronation.

            @ShortyX:

you should be landing on the front mid of your foot under your hips instead

No, that's how you should be running if you were actually running naturally.

But if you were running naturally, obviously, you wouldn't be wearing a caste that you call a running shoe.

The caste known as Ultraboost, like most running shoes, is made to strike heel first. It specifically prevents toe movement which allows a natural running style.

Most people find running naturally very difficult because just like having a broken foot and wearing a caste, the muscles required to do this are completely atrophied and very difficult to use at first.

This happened because Nike told them that striking heel first was natural because they had a shoe to sell.

  • An elliptical machine is better. Could be the only machine you need if you just want cardio with some resistance. gyms always have them but you can rent them too. You don't need to worry about oiling or replacing the belt board or belt like with a treadmill.

    • Hey thank you for the suggestion, honestly I really find them boring, treadmill or running outside ( if it didn’t give me shin splits) is what I prefer. Thank you for the help though.

I can never understand why people need to pay money to join a gym to walk for exercise.
    Go outside!!

    • +1

I can see quite a few reasons - traffic, dogs, weather, poor road/footpath surface, ability to dial up hills. I can see plenty of negatives to treadmills too.

It's so cold outside, and wet, and people stab each other around here at night and night is when I want to exercise most.

      • Exactly what aussiebargain said, my area is defienfley not the safest and I’m at uni and work so mainly get time to work out at night, so I’m debating If it’s worth the $600 or try to push through it at night

How else can you run and Netflix at the same time?!

  • I noticed a treadmill in one of the recent Aldi flyers. $599 - August 10 - Xterra - any good?

    • Same here it looks different compared to different years but that’s what I was wondering about also, how is there warranty policy and return policy at Aldi?

If you're going to buy a treadmill. Look on Gumtree, they are constantly on there because people buy them and never use them so just hang their clothes on them.

    • I was actually having a look yesterday most of them seemed really old quality and had issues. Is there anything to look for in getting a good deal on gumtree? I’ve never bought before from gumtree.

      • Wait for the right one to come up, they will. You’ll save a bunch of money and get a hardly used machine for a great deal.

With your budget you’ll be able to get a really decent machine, just need to be patient if you can

    • And the last time any of them lubed those treadmills will be never. Once the board or belt is worn you'll never get the same kind of traction you did when it was new, without spending hundreds more getting them replaced.

I bought a 2nd hand one on Facebook Market for $100. It does the job, currently putting in 1-2hrs work a day since January.
When it breaks, I'll buy another one for $100.

    Save your money…

    • 100% agree, buy used!

There are so many bargains because most of them end up getting put away collecting dust, which is precisely what happened to mine.

When I was a student my treadmill was the pavement or park.

Treadmills, exercise bikes and rowers go through really large forces which means there's no cheap option that lasts if you use it.

  • Aldi has one on sale for $600 this week I think if you really must have new.

    • Is it any good? The brand looks different compared to previous years they’ve had.

  • I was just about to make a post like this, I'm looking for something for my mum.

She's happy to spend $600-1,000 new, as she wants to use Afterpay.

Any recommendations for up to $1,000, if there's any major benefits to spending more? She'll just be walking as she's 60+(Yes, she should just walk outside 😕)

Any Brand recommendations for people looking at "used"?

    Thank you

  • Merged from Is LSG the same as lifespan?

Sorry for making another treadmill thread, this is my last one. I was told lifespan is the best brand or go with 2nd hand however I prefer brand new ( I’ve never liked preowned stuff might be my anxiety) just wondering if this is the same as lifespan, Thank you. If it’s not is it a good brand?

    https://www.lsgfitness.com.au/products/stride-m2-treadmill

    • From my research, yes. Lifespan sells LSG next to Lifespan models in their clearance section on their website.

FYI the LSG/Lifespan seller on eBay seems to eligible for the 20% off sales quite regularly.

    • Btw, I highly recommend lifespan. We had one of their cross-trainers and we couldn't fault their after-sale service. They went above and beyond what we would have expected.
