  I'm not sure, but it's free, so you can't lose - since there is no need to use it if you don't want to.

  Then again, maybe someone just wants to check the Optus mobile broadband coverage or signal strength in their area, compared to what they already use, and don't want to buy a SIM card just to do that?

  It's not for me to judge what people might want to use it for.

  These have a use. If you own a stack of another carriers sims, you can port out/back for free. To actually bother putting a recharge on this? Nah not worth it. Wait a few days and get something half price from your friendly local retail conglomerate.

      I think you are correct, can't port (activate) Optus without adding credit.

  Guys this is a data SIM (for tablets etc).

  A lot of posters seem to think it's a mobile phone SIM, which it isn't.
