Doesn't Optus require a top up for activation?

    • true that

    • Yes. Minimum $10 I believe.

    • +1

      Yes they do

I went to Woolies yesterday to buy the optus $10 sim pack and when I scanned it through on the self checkout, nothing went through so I got the $10 sim card for free :D hahaha

      • Probably won't work as it needs approval activation by staff before credit is active after payment.

        • Yeh you're right, doesn't work :(

          • @Homr: Not to worry. Just look out for specials on the $10 starter packs for half price or less, even for $1-$2 sometimes and Telstra also sometimes. Otherwise better off with a $30 pack on sale for $10-$15.

  • +7

    Yes I have tried twice…

Wants a credit card to proceed.

Better to get a $10 sim discounted to $5

  • As stated below you have to recharge $10 or more to activate. I was going to get one, but then read that, I don't need to recharge just a new Sim, so I'll have to go to the Store.

    $2 Prepaid SIM
Recharge required to activate SIM at a minimum cost of $10.

    3-in-1 SIM fits all phones
Keep your own number or get a new number
    $2 $0In-store price $2. Offer ends 30/9/19.
    Limited to 1 per customer.

    These sims discriminate against sluts

      Shame the sluts 😆

  • +1

I took up the netflix/Voda woolies deal
Should be good for simslutting for the next
    Few months 😊

    • Few months?
Anything less than a year's worth and you didn't make the most of it.

      • @NoDiggerty
I did but shared amongst family :)

Guys any information regarding when esim going to replace SIM cards.

Bought iPhone XR for it found out letter only Optus offers with expensive plans only. What a rip off.

Seems like no one like Gov or accc give damn care about it.

    • +1

Having same issue atm with Galaxy Watch I just purchased. Seems I have to pay through the roof (compared to usual deals I get) , just because it is esim rather than physical sim.

      • +2

The watch should be $5 a month

      • +1

What… So these phones delete the SIM slot? Instead of just adding esim capability!? LOL. Gee I hate manufacturers.

        • The iPhone XR has both a normal sim slot and an esim slot

    • +2

Define expensive, because I'm on a $36 p/m plan and I activated it. Esims are available to all postpaid customers.

Seems like no one like Gov or accc give damn care about it.

That's because if the government cared about esims, they'd go after Telstra and Vodafone for not even having them yet

      • That's because if the government cared about esims, they'd go after Telstra and Vodafone for not even having them yet

They are totally different. ie. 'not having something' and, charging much more for an equal-ish type service (pricing discrepancy) are completely different things.
I say equal-ish, because maybe it costs some minimal amount more in running costs (or perhaps in the initial activation cost).

    • Hopefully never. I don't want to buy a new phone just because they decided to stop making SIMs. :-( Unless it will be managed by an app we can download - on old phones. :-)

  • It's not free it's a minimum $10 to activate.

    • SIM was $2, SIM is $0 = FREE.

      • +1

Can't use it without spending $10. The exact same Telstra deal posted yesterday is 100% free postage and activation.

Optus free sim deal = $10 minimum activation

Telstra free sim deal = Free activation

        • -1

This post is about a free SIM, not about a free SIM with activation. If you read the comments, most appear to be aware of the activation requirement. You may just want the SIM to test the signal strength in a particular area. Activation isn't required for this.

          • +1

@tightarse: Two exact deals from two different providers. One has an activation fee while the other doesn't.
