TCL 65" 65P6US 4K HDR Smart TV - $754 (Free C&C) or Delivery @ JB Hi-Fi

240

This is a really solid price for what you're getting.

It's by far the cheapest this model has ever been…

Only downside I can see is the slow boot times according to a few reviews!

65" 4K UHD (3840x2160)
HDR Premium
DTS Sound Technology
Works with Google Assistant

  • Can you stream from mbl phone to it?

    • From the JB HiFi listing - Built-In Chromecast

Boot times are super slow (30 seconds) on the TCL Oreo 8.0, even with "quick start" enabled.

There are a few issues with it that bothered me, but may not bother you.

    1. Slow boot up (about 50 seconds). You can turn on fast boot up but it doesn't work sometimes and it also causes an audio issue (2)

    2. If you connect your stereo to the 3.5mm audio output and use fast boot, no sound comes out. You have to reboot in slow boot again. As I used a stereo sound system I just left fast boot off. The TV speakers are pretty ordinary.

    3. HDR Premium is another name for fake HDR. It's rubbish, and colours look washed out. You'd get a better picture with HDR off.

    4. Screen auto-dims during dark scenes and can't be turned off. (This was my top peeve)

    5. Slow OS updates.

Otherwise, Chromecast works fine and the picture quality was also fine. There was some vertical banding on dark scenes but you can adjust backlight to compensate. Lots of high end TVs also have this issue anyway.

If it wasn't for a good deal on a Sony OLED (for PlayStation members) I might have kept the TV. Just don't expect to be able to play HDR content or a game with HDR option in it.

It plays HDR content and games but it obviously isn't as good as a decent oled. I have the latest firmware and no issues with a washed out picture.

Dolby Vision would be nice, but at this price you can forget it

      Absolute steal

  • Decent review here:

As with all cheap big screens, dont expect the world and you'll be happy. A 65" for $750 delivered is cheap. Very cheap.

  • Be aware there return service is awful, don't expect any response for dead LEDs.

  • Ignore the message about delivery options "* Delivery only available in the following areas: Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Brisbane, Perth, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Bunbury, Townsville, Toowoomba, Launceston, Darwin, Canberra, Illawarra, Dubbo, Newcastle & Central Coast. More areas coming soon."

I tried to have one of these delivered to Brisbane CBD (post code 4000) but no success

  • Are there any other alternatives in this price range maybe up to $1000 AUD max for a 65 to 75 inch 4k TV or PC monitor?

This is probably as good as it gets for under $800. I bought one for $1000 about a year ago (after all cashbacks) but only because a slightly dearer Hisense that I had my eye on at the time was out of stock everywhere.

Looking at the forums for both Hisense and TCL, I should have waited for the Hisense as it would have had less issues. The issues weren't super noticeable but over the year I had the TV, they were starting to annoy me, and I'm generally very tolerant.

Overall I would say spring for a better brand like Hisense for about $1200 or even better an LG, Samsung etc in the $1500 range. I only lost about $200 out of pocket selling the TCL but that was $200 I could have spent on a Hisense in the first place.

I really recommend spending some time in the whirlpool TV forums before you decide on the TV, looking for potential issues. The TCL ones are just pages and pages of people swearing they'd never get another TCL again. While my experience of this TV was not as bad, for something you might spend hours with daily the little things do add up. I would recommend this TV only as a second TV and not as your daily driver. Spend a bit more and the difference is significant.

      • Yeah definitely. For me personally I want to buy something that will last because there is a high charge I won't buy a new monitor or TV for 5 maybe even 10 years ago good value now pays off later than going just super top tier or super bottom budget tier.

Something above middle is my goal.
