Been after a cheap laser rangefinder and this seems to be packed with a few features. It's design has also won the 2019 the German iF Design Award. Probably won't be the same as a $200 rangefinder but still worth a shot.

Stackable with cashback.

Edit: The LS-1S (Upgraded version) is available for $15.39 US thanks to yak

  • Any good for home DIY projects?

    • +1

That's what I intend on using it for.

      • I own this one https://www.totaltools.com.au/test-measurement/laser-distanc….

Got it for about $75 on sale, but apparently has same specs as OP's one at $20?!?
I'd be hesitant on those claims for accurate work (my linked one has certified accuracy) and is more accurate than a manual tape measure, but for quick measurements and for something that you won't cry about if you leave it behind or drop it, I reckon OP's is worth a go. It's $20.

Once you get it, measure a known distance as accurately as you can with a tape measure and compare. If it's out by a bit, at least you know how much to allow for. But for odd jobs that don't need to be mm accurate (like a retaining wall or concreting etc) it should do the trick.

      • Unlike a cheap drill, I don't see why this is not good for commercial/trade construction use.

I just would not use it for surveying a new land subdivision :-)

        • +3

It will not survive a day in a dusty jobsite and a few drops from gloved hands.

  • Measuring range is only up to 40m, so not really a proper "range finder" sold for $200 (for instance ones that golfers use).

Still… for a cheapy laser tape measure, good price!

    • +6

Guess it's good for the inside of the majority of homes in Australia.

      • +1

        Exactly. It's a laser measure not a range finder. There's a difference.

    • Thanks, I grabbed this as well

    • Bought 4 of these, thanks! There's bday presents for the dad and brothers sorted

    • Dunno how I missed that one. Added to the OP!

    • bought one, this is a good size. I have a Leica one which couldn't fit into my folio.

    • +4

Did these go up in price? Showing $33.88 for me now.

    • Got this a month ago, and can confirm that it's very useful. It has replaced the traditional tape measure in our home.

  • I went with the dtape d3 instead - more features, but the ls-1s does seem pretty cool

    I got the Suaoki S9 for $45.

I would suggest that over this unit as it has Pythagoras function which is very handy. It will help you measure vertical heights where you'd normally need a ladder. Can be done on this unit too but slightly less accurate (no leg) and you'd have to manually calculate.

Second major advantage is the Suaoki uses AAA.

Third is the housing. The Suaoki looks and feels very impact resistant.

    • Do you have a link- can't find it on BG and saying $245 on Amazon au

      • I got mine off eBay.

I did try to find one for the same price just now but everything has a huge shipping cost to it.

        • Thanks for looking

    • D30 here has pythagorus function as well, currently coupon code brings it to US$13.

Not a bad unit but these things don't typically get used day to day so they may have discharged when it is needed.

        Much prefer standard batteries.

        • +2

          Much prefer standard eneloops.

          FTFY

          • @davidl820: Those buttons are a nightmare with gloved hands.

            Also, the body looks fragile.

Good for home use but I wouldn't take that out to a jobsite. I've broken phones and keyfobs because they were in my pocket when I was lifting material. You'd really want something with substantial rubber moulding.

    • Floureon Laser Measure Devices comes out trumps here, and they also offer ip54 protection (dust/splash proof), any thoughts?…

      https://www.whywelikethis.co.uk/top-7-best-laser-measure-dev…

      • Looks similar in specs to the Suaoki.

These are entry level proper tools so they'd all do just fine.

The next step up has angle finders and tilt indicators and I'd be more discerning of the quality.

  • I have never used one of these but I remember Aldi sell something similar to the dtape d3.

  • I have one of these. Nicely built and very compact.

    • What's your thoughts on the accuracy?

  • Hows the shipping time from BangGood? All These overseas retailers can vary significantly.
Might make for a good Fathers Day Gift.

    • +2

Bought a couple of times on it. Generally took 3-4 weeks if not longer.

That's when someone knock on your door for delivery and you can't remember what did you buy.

    Thanks OP :-)

I did a search, as others were finding alternatives, and ended up buying the (no brand) one below that is also worth mentioning.
Has the 40M +/-2mm specs, but also does the pythagoras.

With discount code BG40MLDM it comes down to $19.45 delivered:

    • bought
      thanks.

    • And angle/pythagoras by the looks of things.

    • I'll give you $50 for it then

    • Is that the Bosch green one what was on here recently? If so I am eaiting for one of those as ot was mentioned the phone app will draw up plans based on your measurements for you

Now Chineese government wants to know all my sizes…
    Well…

    • +4

      They'd probably be disappointed.

      • His location could be in Congo.

        They'd be terrified.

  • I got one of these a few weeks ago. Seems to work well, although I dont know very much about it - I just needed it as a household tape measure.
The unit is really small, about the twice the size of a USB stick. Instructions are only in Chinese, which I do not understand.
    It only has one button,
long press to turn on/off, note laser activates weakly at first until you aim
    short press aim(activate bright laser)/measure(deactivate)
Display is backlit, main large numerical display shows most recent measurement, three smaller numerical displays above show prior measurements. There is also a battery indicator, something that looks like a radio signal level?, and an icon that flashes when the laser is active and bright.

    • +1

"radio signal level" indicator is the measurement device including its own length in the measurement, you can change it to only measure from the laser tip in the settings if you have to.

Price shows up as a little more for me at US$22.99 and US$16.99 now

  • Okay, so now the sale is back on at promotion sale price of OPs price $13.19 US (gst inc).

Upgraded version has run out at special price.

  • showing AU$25.14 for me

  • got an out of stock notification on the ATuMan LS-1S, chose to wait.

    • I got the same, but it looks like it's still available to order, but slightly cheaper @ $14.29 US.

  • A bit OTT, but I just went and ordered a
SNDWAY SW-S100 Handheld Laser Distance Meter
for $71.00 from a dodgy Ebay Aus (located in Singapore/China not Australia) mob.
    I wanted a proper e-bubble thing.

Here is a variety of Ebay Aus listing for SNDWAY

    https://www.ebay.com.au/i/352521882719?chn=ps&norover=1&mkev…

  • They cancelled the order on me… What happens now do they refund?

    • The LS-1S I ordered is out of stock, but still "processing" right now.
