Thanks mate. Have been looking for a good deal on a Apple TV 4K :)

  • Two questions for owners;

1 - Is the 64gb a better buy over the 32gb for the extra $25~

2 - My parents have an old 4k TV - around 2013. Which unfortunately won't work with bluetooth headphones. Is there a way I can connect bluetooth headphones to this device?

    Cheers

    • You have no direct access to storage, so depends on apps usage. I doubt you would need more than 32 for streaming..

The remote is BT but never checked if you can pair headphones. Apple says yes - https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT205302

    • Yes, you can pair Bluetooth headphones and speakers to it.

Regarding Bluetooth. your old tv can connect Bluetooth speakers or head phones. I use this tiny USB Bluetooth transmitter/ receiver adapter. Insert it into USB port on TV and connect the supplied audio cable, between this tiny Bluetooth transmitter device and TV Headphone or Audio output ports. Headphone port works better for me as you can control the Bluetooth speaker volume using tv remote. Also my Anker Bluetooth speaker connect automatically to tv each time I turn it on. So no pairing required each time. Very easy for parents.

      • Not all TVs have 3.5mm audio out. Most do but I've come across those that don't.

      • Cheers. I actually have one of these which I tried but it wouldn't work. Haven't been able to connect the headphones to a source which won't allow me to physically 'select' them somewhere.

You are right. The Logitech device you have looks like a RECEIVER ONLY and it won’t work in your situation. This Logitech Bluetooth adapter receiver-only device, is used to make non- Bluetooth speaker Bluetooth capable. So it can receive the audio signal transmitted from Bluetooth capable devices like smartphone or TV.

Now in your case you have Non-Bluetooth TV and a Bluetooth speaker. Just the opposite of the case explained above. That means what you need is a Bluetooth transmitter so you can transmit Signals from old TV to the Bluetooth speaker/headphone. The device I suggested above fits well. You have to connect it to TV.
In fact it’s both transmitter and receiver so you can use it which ever way you like to.
I hope I was able to explain. It works very well for me and should work for you unless u don’t have USB port on your tv.
And if u don’t have headphone port on your tv, you will have to use RCA Audio out (Red & white) of TV & you will need the same RCA to 3.5mm audio Cable which u are using with your Logitech device.

  • Guess there will be a new model released this September.

    • Which Aladdin movie did you watch?

  • This or nvidia shielf tv?

    • Can't say about the Nvidia, but I will say the aTV (along with a HomeRun TV tuner) has the wife seal of approval .

The only downside is that recording live TV isn't possible with this set up (without paying a subscription service).

      • Hi. What does the HomeRun do for you? FTA tv can be seen on the aTV using the Freeview TV app.

        • I'm not sure! I did buy the Channels app which allows me to skip back/pause etc. Not sure if I can do that on the Freeview app.

Looks good though - esp. if you hadn't already bought this stuff because you didn't know about Freeview! :-)

Wow. Dolby Vision at this price!

Now all I need is a compatible Dolby Vision TV.

    • It’s better get tv first 😁

      • Lol I know 😁 not cheap!

But I saw a Panasonic 55' OLED for $1,500. Display stock.

I think all the LG OLEDs are Dolby Vision certified, not sure about other brands.

My guess is most, if not all, OLEDs would be Dolby certified since there's only 2 or 3 OLED panel manufacturers, so the picture would be pretty similar.

Btw I just came across a new OLED brand - Konka from Kogan.

They sell for $1,200 (saw one 55' today for $850 on eBay) and apparently they use LG OLED panels.

spend the extra $300 - $400 get the lg or panasonic when on sale, you really want to stare at a kogan badge for years

            @RogueWolf: Definitely not lol.

BUT, interestingly, Konka TVs run on Android (or Android TV) and use LG panels, maybe they're not THAT bad.

I wish my Samsung ran Android instead of Tizen tbh.

But yeah, personally, I'd spend the extra few hundred bucks for a decent brand (I could always get an Android box or even Chromecast).

            • @BooYa: lol

              "maybe they're not THAT bad"

sounds like your still trying to convince yourself lol

@RogueWolf: Lol. Nah. Not really. Just typing out loud …

  • Does Plex come standard on this? If so, how is the app quality compared to the android tv version?

    • Plex exists for this yea, and it's pretty good. Most people prefer to use either MrMC or Infuse and link their Plex libraries.
