[NSW] USB-C (Male) to VGA (Female) Adaptor $4 @ Bunnings (Bankstown Airport)

650

It's not listed on the Bunnings website anymore, so seems to be a genuine clearance.

It's $50 cheaper than the cheapest brand at Officeworks. Not useful to me, but I'm sure it will be to someone.

Should work with most laptops, some tablets and phones.

The black version wasn't shown as discounted, but I suspect it may be also.
Spotted at Bunnings Bankstown Airport (Milperra)… may not be available at all stores.

    What is VGA 😌

    • +6

What hipsters use instead of DisplayPort because they think analog is better.

    • ask your predecessors

      Calm down ScoMo

Is Bunnings going to replace Msy position in ozbargain?

  • Why would I need this?

    • +1

So you can mirror Pornhub on your phone to the tv

    • +6

Connecting a recent device to an older VGA only projector.
I wouldn't expect it to work with any sort of reliability though, the DAC chips used in these adapters are complete garbage.

    • I've had oldies from time to time who only have an old VGA input monitor that don't want to replace. Now that I think of we needed to get them a HDMI to VGA rather than USB-C as in the OP but I might check out Bunnings anyway JIC they do have some of the latter.

    ?$50 cheaper??…was $15

    • +3

Try to read the rest of the sentence first

        • +2

"$50 cheaper than the cheapest brand at Officeworks"

As in the cheapest branded one at office works is $54.00

  • Bunnings eastgardens has 10 of em, just at $25 each.

  • +6

Nice. Been wanting to play fallout shelter on an old crt monitor for immersion

Need one of those green shade ones…

    This would be extremely niche

Do they have any USB-C to Parallel so I can plug in my 9pin Dot Matrix printer? :D

    • +1

parallel, luxury - my first printer was a second hand serial connected impact printer. It was about the size of a medium size suitcase as well. Huh, kids nowdays, don't know how lucky they are.

      • I dont think people even print anything anymore?

        • +1

We printed all out tickets etc when we went over to Europe. Also had everything in software form etc but found that the printed out tickets were faster and a good backstop in case everything went pear shaped with the technology. I didn't print out the air BnB addressing etc, but wish I had as it makes it easier to give to the taxi driver. Mostly we use public transport but when we had four of us taxis became an option.

@try2bhelpful: And here I am thinking "phone is fine" 😀

            • @BargainKen: Normally, but just handing the taxi driver a bit of paper is better than juggling a phone that then decides to go into sleep mode, or swap to another app because the screen was touched. We have a really cheap black and white laser printer we use for this sort of thing. The other thing we normally do is Screen capture our tickets so you can show them from the photos rather than the mail app. It means you don’t have an issue with no connectivity or if the person checking touches the screen.

        • I would love it if there were a windows printer driver that I could install so I could print from any app and collect the results from a store, so I never had to deal with any physical printer again. None of this "upload your pdf/word doc" crap.

      • Daisywheel ftw

        • Well, somebody had money, didn’t they?

          • @try2bhelpful: No, not at all. I had to do a paper-round for about 12 months in order to 'upgrade' to a canon bublejet later down the track.. 12 months of weekend work.

Then my dad printed off 6 photos with the included colour catridge, and exhausted the whole thing.

  • Is VGA short form of something

Or Video Graphics Array if you're old and into tech

      • Tbat's CGA/EGA :D

  • This might come in handy

VGA is from the 1950s and should be illegal now.

if you own any equipment with a VGA connection, then throw it into the bin.

    • +3

But, my monitor works just fine. Why throw something out that’s not broken?

      • -5

because your life will be simpler after disposing of ancient tech.

i sold my Bose QC35 with the ancient MicroUSB … my life feels so much better .. cant stand those stupid old micro USB connections.

    • Even my newest LG monitor has VGA support (as well as USB-C)…

  • A lot of older work projectors still use VGA. Noisy huge bastards too.

I just cleared out Thomastown. Was marked at $26, I asked the register lady to check, and it scanned at $26. She did say it was a "quit" line. I showed her the photo from this post, she asked her manager and they dropped it to $4.

    Thanks OP

    • No worries!

  • +1

Interesting, I thought these wouldn't work at all as VGA is analog and a usb video input would be digital? Wouldn't you need a converter? I have a VGA/Composite/Componenent/SVIDEO projector

    • +3

They have a really cheap digital-to-analog converter chip in them.

    • Used this adapt with my Samsung S9 to connect to an old Projector, it worked but the phone battery drains fast.

  • I've used the two outputs on my video card to run 2 monitors. Would anyone know if i Could use this to run a third monitor?

    • +3

Depends if your USB-C ports can output video. Check if they have a logo printed near them that is an upper case D with a P inside it, or if the manual mentions anything about supporting "alt. mode".

  • there is a Bunnings in an airport?!

    • +1

Doesn't your local Airport have a Bunnings?!

      • Useful for all that manure I need when I take a flight.

  • Jandakot WA had them, about 4 left, for $10

  • I was in there today, and the guy in front of me had a pile of USB-C to HDMI adapter a claiming they were $4… The register guy said they were scanning at $39.98… The customer replies with "I came so far because they are so cheap" - considering the $4 ones are not listed on the Bunnings website, I'm guessing he came from this post.

The guy at the register asked him if he could grab the tags, I'm curious if he got them for $4… but I doubt it.

Should have called him out for Brodening to see his reaction.

      • Makes @Broden look good; I consider Brodening to be greedy, not scammy!
