Greetings everyone, Harvey Norman have matched the current JB deal on this phone, however are chucking in the Google Home Max (which currently retails for $349) for free.

Considering that if you didn't want the speaker and could sell for possibly around $250 - $300, seems like an excellent deal for this phone.

That's the first good pixel 3 deal I have seen.

  • Is it dual Sim?

    • No I dont think so

      • Pity single Sim. Can't live without dual Sim as it was very hard carrying 2 phones.

        • -1

It has an eSim, so you can activate that if your carrier supports it.

          • +4

@gamerkonks: Australian SKU do not have esims

            • +1

@eleon00: That's true. It's more that they've been intentionally disabled, as I understand it. The Australian SKU '3a's and '3a XL's do have a functioning eSIM, interestingly.

              • +1

@ragrum: Yup, the 3a esims function well. I've been trying to activate my google fi on my 3 after I upgraded from 2. And found this limitation the hard way. Read from the interwebs that the telcos pressed for this.

                • @eleon00: I learnt the hard way too after buying an eSIM plan from FlexiRoam. To their credit, they were as surprised as I was. They gave me a partial refund and have since added this note to their eSIM page:

Not supported by Pixel devices purchased in Australia

How is Pixel 3? I saw lot of comments about poor call quality and dropping calls. I need a phone for my wife and her Nexus 6p died because of bootloop error.

    • +7

Pixel 3 is probably the worst phone I've ever owned (previous Iphone and Samsung user)

      • -4

But all the Google fanboys love it because 'the best camera'

        smh

      • +2

thanks, I was about to buy a pixel 3, will wait for something better :)

    • +3

I'm loving my pixel 3. Only had it a week. Clear calls and solid BT connection.

    • +3

Great phone, not worth RRP or anything close to it, at these prices it is well worthit. Very basic phones.

      • Did you experience any hardware issues? Nexus 6P had a bluetooth issue.

        • +2

This was the first Pixel that I didn't have hardware issues. I had plenty of software issues though, some were fixed months later while some weren't.

        • +7

Nexus 6P had an everything issue

    • My girlfriend bought it back in Jan, she is not very tech savvy, and always an iPhone user, so far she is loving it

    • I have one, no complaint so far. Great pure android feel with security updates pushed frequently

    • Pixel 3 user..had call quality problem..returned the phone to google and got a new one..problem fixed so far..

      • was it dropping from 4g during calls?

        • +1

          4g, 3g and wifi..voice was garbled..

    • +1

I have a Pixel 3 (XL) it's been a great phone, no issues with call dropouts or with anything else.
I also had a Nexus 6P the first and only phone that has died on me, yes bootloop issues.
But I've had my Pixel 3 for over 6 months and it's been a dream, the photos/videos are amazing also!!

  • Wow great deal!

  • Curses. No amex deal to stack

    • If you purchased the gift card back then, this would be only $748.

      • hah. did think of that, but was annoying to offload last time i bought up on $500 worth of gc and couldnt find anything i wanted..

  • Wow this is a good deal. Pity no Amex deal.
I also wish they'd do a deal for the 3a.

  • Great deal!

  • The price was ok until I saw the Google home max thrown in. Awesome deal OP!!

  • +2

How's the pixel 3 worth double the LG v30 jb Hi-Fi deal?

    • +1

It's not. The Google home is $300!

      • Ah I see. Had no clue.

  • I'm so tempted

  • Why are they selling so cheap?

    • +9

New Pixel 4 coming in the next couple of months + slow sells number throughout the product cycle + software and hardware issues some user experienced + generally lack of outright performance compare to iphone despite being the flagship = discount and bundles of Google products

      • Wow. Wasn't expecting that, but THANK YOU!! Was considering, but as with many deals, didn't need it.. might wait for the next version and see if a watch comes with it so I can switch from my ssslllloooowwww Samsung s7 edge that's on its last legs.. thanks @andysjunks!

        • I had a serious look at Pixel 3 to replace my iphone 7 but stopped after seeing so many issues, and some still don't have fixing solutions

          • +6

@Andysjunks: Not sure why ozb is so anti pixel.
Every phone model has batches of phones with issues, e.g https://www.gottabemobile.com/common-galaxy-s10-problems-how…

            • @Vombatidae: I can't say about Pixel 3 however my Pixel 2 has been good. Have no issue with BT, call or software. Battery is fine, I tested it several times over the year and it still performing exactly like reviews. It even survived being dropped in sea water at the beach on one occasion. Admittedly, Pixel 2 was receiving fairly less complaint comparing to 2XL or the 3s (all LG, the 2 was the last Pixel assembled by HTC).

          • @Andysjunks: I'd highly recommend getting the iPhone XS :)

            • @DNAngel: My iphone 6s took on the battery replacement program last year and that battery expanded and burst open the body. Apple replaced with a new 6s this week no questions asked. The rest of the phone is 4 years old…

Don't think i get this support from any other brand so may end up staying in the fruit market despite it is really too expensive…

  • Garry Harvey.

Why do I look at deals like this and try and justify buying it when I have a functioning phone and 2 Max's already :(

    • +4

Coz ozbargain that's why. Oz-buy stuff cause its a-bargain, not because you need it. That's what this site is for!

    • +1

Because you live in a society where intrinsic values take a back seat to rampant consumerism. Because you have years worth of messages from overpaid marketers hooked into your brain. Get the latest, get the best! To be happy! Happy! And we never are. No need to thank me for this lift to your spirits btw. Totally free!

I'm in the same boat btw. :P

Actually I could almost justify it. The Pixels will have hearing aid support from 'Q'. Just not sure if my hearing aids will be compatible.

  • Anyone else's order being reviewed? Does that mean they might not honour this deal?

  • Hopefully there will be many cheap Google Home Maxes for sale…that thing sounds great

  • Is it worth upgrading from Oneplus 6 to Google pixl 3?

    • Only if you want wireless charging and a slightly better camera.

    • Only if you want better photo quality. In terms of performance, no.

  • +1

I'll buy one if JB matches this deal, still holding onto the $500 from the Telstra deal

    • In the same boat. Went at eofy and they wouldn't budge from the $899 ($300 off deal)… 3a they could knock $40 off but I'm waiting on a proper deal for the full pixel.

  • +3

I don't think 64gb is enough considering there's no sd card slot..

    • Google gives free cloud storage for photos but for rest I think should be enough.

      • If you access the cloud to view your photos are you basically redownloading the photos each time to view it?

    • +1

I might be biased as I own one, but most of the stuffs in my old phone are pictures. And since this has unlimited google photos storage for 2 years, I don't have any problem with 64gb

  • Hey doweyy, quick question - do you know why I got asked if I was associated with you when voting? Am I just voting up your posts too much?

    • I'm not too sure Zazer! I've got that message before because I was in a similar IP Range to the OP, but considering you seem to be in Syd it might just be a precaution for the voting patterns?

Either way, it's all good and nothing to worry about :)

      • +1

Hahaha… I was gonna post this myself today. I get the same message everytime I up vote your deal!

        • +2

Lol weird, must be IP range and voting for you because you're in Brisbane! I used to get it all the time for nocure's deals lol, and I think I've got it on one of yours also!

          • +4

@doweyy: Two alts is a bit overkill doweyy.

  • How does this phone compare to the LG that was posted the other day? Mainly after the camera for my wife so she can take good photos of bub, she’s currently using a 6s plus.

    • +1

The pixels camera quality is probably ahead of all phones currently. That's the main reason I got one.

  • How does bonus Google Home Max get listed in the tax invoice from Harvey Norman? If they are listed together, and intend to claim TRS refund, might need to show both Pixel 3 and Google Home Max at the TRS counter for refund?

    • You bring your google home max along…

      • +1

33.5 x 18.7 x 15 cm and weighs 5.3 kg. Likely oversized for hand carry.
Maybe can check in. "You should also take oversized items (such as skis, snowboards and golf clubs) to the ABF client services officer for verification before you check them in."

    • +1

Called the Tourist Refund Office today, the officer advised me that I am only required to bring the phone for refund and not free / bonus gifts

  • Good deal. The Google Home Max market is going to get flooded from this, I predict $200 prices.

    • Allow me to consult my crystal ball…

  • Thanks for the post. Just Just purchased!

    • +1

Good to hear! Wonder how does Harvey Norman state the bonus Google Home Max on your receipt? As intend to claim TRS (if receipt just mentions Google Pixel 3 only, means I can leave the Google Max at home, only bring the phone with me to airport)

  • Only "Clearly White" available now? Am I mistaken?

    • yep. I ordered Not Pink lol

  • Any successful pricematches with JB?

    • Nope. Kotara in Newcastle wouldn't do it.

  • So I ordered last night and picked watergarden store as it's the closest store. They had clear white in stock. Got the confirmation message but not the ready for pick up message. Called them to check today but manager said out of stock. Any clues how long it takes to restock phones nowadays? Thanks

    • Ahh damn that's unfortunate, did they cancel your order or did they let you back-order the phone with the GHM?

      • The manager said i can just wait for more stock to arrive and they will send me a message to pick up. But to be honest i'm not convinced. Maybe i should've just chosen to deliver. Now im stuck because i already purchased case and protector for this phone.

  • +1

    Great deal. Thanks doweyy.

  • I just went to my local HN in Woodville SA and they didn't have any in stock. I was told they can't order any more in as it is 'run-out stock. Sounded like they're not going to restock it at all, at least not before this deal expires.

The guy said I can try to order one online, so I did. Haven't heard back though, only received the order confirmation but no ready for pick up message.

    • Probably online team off day. Mines on back order though.

    • I did the same. But what pisses me off is last night when i ordered mine i chose watergarden store because they still had some as per the online portal. But this morning when i drove around i was told i had to wait for more stock to arrive. Got the "review" email from Hn then the confirmation of order but not the pick up.

  • Harvey Norman are advertising the Google Home Max for $349 but does anyone know what they are actually selling for?

If you were to buy the HN Pixel 3 / Home Max deal for $798 Mobile Monster will pay you $550 for the phone.

    https://mobilemonster.com.au/sell-your-phone/google/pixel-3-…

That means you have effectively purchased the Google Max home for $248 - good deal or not if you wanted one?

    • Why would you sell it to mobilemonster for a brand new phone…? If you want to sell it, at least put it on eBay?

      • +2

lol, far too many oil rig workers and exiled Saudi Princes desperate for a new mobile phone on eBay for me to ever consider selling a phone (or anything of value actually) on eBay.

Just not worth my time and probable frustration :-)

  • the last 64gb one in Ballarat sold right in front of me. lol

going to Geelong tomorrow, both the HN stores there have stock for anyone interested. they don't have the Google Home Max in stock tho, but provide a raincheck

  • Doesn't appear to be any stock online or Perth metro.

    • Maybe call Joondalup and malaga. Had stock yesterday…

      • Spoke to the guy at Cannington store 30 minutes ago and he said no more stock in Perth.

  • I was able to get one online before it became out of stock. Managed to get free shipping through Shipster. Is there any way to choose google home max colour for online orders?

    • If you read t&cs, it’s only for store pickup….

      • My order confirmation does mention "Bonus Google Home Max" so we will have to wait and see.

        • See that’s the thing you can’t even select the colour…anyway let us know how you go!

          • +1

@cloudie9: Got a call from Harvey Norman that my items have been shipped. I am getting a chalk (White) google home max along with my white pixel.

  • My local store has stock, but says it doesn't include the Google home Max. Price is still $798

    • That's dodgy. It is mentioned on their website so they should have honoured it.
