No thanks will no longer purchase this Ice cream after their last scam

    • got a link? just wondering what it was.

    • What was their last scam?

        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/456951

Tried to get out of giving out the VISA cards through stalling and changing the promotion terms. Most people eventually got their cards months later after numerous back and forths. Some are still in the process or have been rejected with no good reason.

        Ice cream isn't even good.

Family received all 3 requested - after a wait. Given I often order purchases from China & wait longer, I didn't notice the wait

          • @INFIDEL: Yeah, we got ours with minimal fuss too.
Not sure what the difference was, maybe that I left it a couple of weeks.

              @chymb: Nearly 800 upvotes.
Some were apparently submitting multiple claims. Some missed out.

I didn't follow the comments, & bought on last possible day, so avoided getting stressed like many others.

Pretty easy deal to get free ice cream & a profit! As long as you didn't mind the wait for free $. Cashback takes far longer & is often uncertain.

        • Didn't know they rejected people, I thought it was only slow. Got all mine 3 also.

Even if it was free, not ever buying B&J due to previous CB fiasco.

Negging merchant for their unethical trading practices , not OP

I tend to agree. I got my cashback without issue, but the whole convoluted process was so deceptive and so obviously designed to deny claims, I feel nothing but irritation when I see this brand now.

Still waiting for my code from retarded promo team, ice cream I bought actually taste great but I'll never buy anything from them again as they are trying their best to weasel their way out from paying genuine claim.

  • (only valid at Bondi (NSW), Manly (NSW), Chatswood (NSW) and Flinders Lane (VIC) locations)

    • Thanks for that! I didn’t even notice that.

  • Negging due to previous scam by this merchant.

  • +2

I will + because others are being askhole to the OP

  • I can understand people’s frustration with the Virtual Visa deal but surely you all realise had the deal not been abused by so many people claiming more than once then I really think they would of paid up a lot quicker.
And by abused I’m not just talking about one person claiming more than once for themselves, I think claiming more than once per household is abusing, even though technically it wasn’t mentioned in the terms and conditions.
Simple maths tells us that every claim paid cost them money. Woolies cost price is probably around $7 or $8 so they were loosing around $6 or $7 per claim.

I know one thing for sure. That deal won’t be back next year.

    • just to be clear they weren't losing money at all.

The cost to make ben & jerry's is let's say $1.

They got lazy and outsourced the promotion to another company and then that company did a crappy job of handling it.

They didnt have a proper system in place to automate the process at all

      • This was a promotion by B&J, in conjunction with Woolies. Both made a profit through increased sales.

The cost of production, marketing, warehousing, distribution, etc is pretty irrelevant. Levers are big boys in global manufacturing. They make money.

They got lazy and outsourced the promotion to another company and then that company did a crappy job of handling it.

Probably all promotions are outsourced to specialist businesses. Especially so in one-off cash back style promotions like this.

Those businesses package up incentives designed to drive sales (from pens, to visa cards bought cheap, to luxury holidays), & market their services to companies like Levers / B&J.

It's not being "lazy", but usually good business practice. That way, businesses stick to what they know best.

B&J paid an unknown amount for this promotion. Whether that cost was larger than their profit on sales due to this promotion - I doubt we will ever know.

Any short term loss by B&J in running this promotion, would be expected to be covered by longer term increased sales. That's the only reason for the promotion.
(They never counted on the OzBargain effect😱)

The promotions company may not have made a profit (depending on their agreement with Levers), with an unexpectedly high amount of claims & complicated processing. Their reluctance to pay out some claims would indicate this.

I agree - Most likely the business that ran the promotion stuffed up this promotion, not B&J.

    • dan76n I beg to differ. A well design, planned and executed promotional campaign would eradicate or minimise abuse. The stuff up boiled down to pure incompetency and apathetic behaviour of the Ben&Jerry's promotional team.

Incompetency aside, to cover up their stuff up, they employed unscrupulous tactics including stalling, changing the claim process midway, adding new information requirement, broken SMS verification, etc…to disqualify as many valid claim submissions as possible. This is pathetic and a violation to Unilever’s published Value, Principles, Code of Business Principles and Code Policies. These morons refused to do the right thing to re-gain the trust of consumer with sincere apology and admission of their stuff up to all affected consumer.

After more than 2 months, some Ozbargainers are still battling to get their Virtual VISA for legit/approved claim submissions. Personally, I don't see this as a $14 Virtual VISA matter. It is about consumer rights and a public listed company's unethical business practices and refusal to do the right thing.
