They still support it. You can use SD.

The memory stick was available in 2TB 10 years ago, where as SD card is still stuck on 1TB released just this year.

Stubborn Sony I heard they are struggling (sales) in almost every department.

Definitely not struggling in camera sales

      • +6

Yeah, Sony's been smashing it for like 5+ years now and their stock price seems to reflect that.

  • +2

Looks like the A7R IV is already pushing prices down. Think I might finally take the plunge and grab a A7R III once a cracker deal comes along.

      What rank are ya steve?

      • D1 in 2s and D2 in 3s. You?

This is a good deal, but I wish Sony glass wasn't so expensive. as it stands I'd rather get a high-end APS-C camera from Canon or Nikon than a full frame from Sony, just because of backwards compatability with EF/F-Mount lenses.

As this stands, this is a great deal if you don't plan on using much more than the kit lens, but if you're looking for a versatile ILC on a budget, you might be better off looking elsewhere, because even the cheapest compatible glass is almost doubles the cost of buying this.

Pick up a second hand D750 (body only) for around this price, and then enjoy 50+ years of Nikon glass :)

      • +1

Heck, if you look around you can pick up a 5D Mk III for about this price

        • I had the Nikon glass already, hence the D750 remark ;)

            @holoz0r: Yeah, that's fair.

The thing is, this is a good camera, and for under 1000 dollars it's a GREAT camera. But not so much if you're trying to buy into the format on a budget. Sony seem to make really good high-end cameras for people without budgets, but not so much below that.

            • @TheRealCJ: I was hoping for an A7s II, like many - those low light capabilities and dynamic range are absolutely obnoxious on the first one. The next iteration of it would be insane - especially for things like live music, events, and unlit weddings.

              • +1

@holoz0r: Yeah definitely. Sony really hit their stride with the A7II, the first one kinda felt like they were just shoving a full frame sensor into one of their lower end ILCs and calling it a day.

  • +3

Tempting, but its dynamic range basically mirrors that of current gen micro four thirds, even all the way down to ISO 12800: Photons to Photos

Might be patient a while longer and see what Black Friday brings.

    • At higher ISO's that should change fast

      • +1

Well respectfully that was my point. The graph I linked above maps DR performance in 1/3 increments all the way up to max ISO. I'm struggling to justify spending money on a FF cam that can't distinguish itself from m43 even at ISO 12800. Later models wipe the floor with crop sensor.

Wouldn't buy it again even at this price. Have the a7 as a back up cam and the autofocus was and still is god awful.

  • Would this be a good buy for a casual photographer for my trip to Japan this coming September? I've heard good comments about this from a friend and the sale seems awesome..

    • Yeah. I'd recommend getting some cheap off-brand spare batteries though, you can't charge and use the A7 at the same time and it has a really short battery life. The Ravpower ones come on sale here every few months and you can just leave them charging in your bag with a powerbank.

      • Thanks! I'll look around for the batteries.

This is a very old model so do your research.

    • I wish I noticed this!!! In the US and had been stalking slick deals for camera deals on prime day, completely missed these somehow…….

  • Will sony store ma5ch the price?
Then we cam use Amex offer

  • Curious, are Sony still making these cameras, or did they only recently stop. Or is this still unsold stock that Sony have from a really long time ago.

  • I heard Sony menus are not that user friendly. On this particular model focus is bad and battery life is terrible too. Any A7 owners here ?

  • +1

i wouldnt bother with this model… its very old now … performance is not that great….

    • At this price, it'd be a decent option as a backup camera to keep for emergencies (when your mains die) if you're a Sony shooter.

  • https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/206486 it's been lower with cashback :)

    • Not with the lens

this is the price for my A7r IV in my dream

  • Still remember 4 years ago, $1100ish you could have these plus a canon lens adaptor.

    • Same. I got 2 package, sold the adaptor for $250-$300 each. Make it the best deal I have ever got.

Consider to get this as well as I sold anything except 55mm lens (too good to be sold). Only concern is focus speed of A7.

    • Me too used to buy the camera and sell the adapter. Prices have gone up massively since. Sold off all and have gone Fuji.

  • anyone knows if JB hifi giving out 5% discount code anytime soon?
