Note - the standard edition is also on sale for $19.97 (50% off)

I personally haven't bought this game yet but if I do now is the time I will be getting it. I am interested to see what the OZB community think of this game compared to PCARS2.

  • Wow very nice deal, the base game already has tons of content

  • I've never played PC2 but I have Assetto Corsa on PC and I think it's a fantastic game! It's supposed to be slightly less arcadey than PC2. The car list is pretty handy too. Lots of open wheelers and LMP1 cars and then classic production cars and their GT variants. Without mods, I think the PC2 track list has more content though.

  • Project Cars 2 is a game, this is a driving sim. I havent ever played the xbox version, but have sunk in countless hours on PC. No other game ive played (Race Room, PCars2, Forza7, FH4) comes close to the driving feel of Assetto Corsa. I only play solo so cant speak for how this compares to the others in multiplayer or against the AI, but if u want a game to show off how good your high end wheel can be, this is it IMO.

  • On an associated topic, any decent deals on wheel/pedal sets out there? Would love to go a Fanatec etc but budget will only stretch to the $300 mark so I guess that's a Logitech/Thrustmaster.

    • +1

At that price, your best bet will be the Logitech g29 (or g920)
Fanatec is pretty much out of the question, and I've never personally used the cheap Thrustmaster gear.
My mate is using a g29, and for what you pay, its incredible value. The force feedback isn't as smooth as Fanatec, the steering wheel rim is a little small for my liking. The pedals are adequate despite not having a load cell, but the shifter feels cheap. Regardless of all that tho, it still gives you an awesome feeling of control over the game, and is a bargain when compared to the expensive gear.

You will probably need to factor in the cost of some sort of wheel / pedal stand though, as the pedals have a tendency to want to move across the floor when braking hard (or if your chair is on castors, you will probably roll back).
But if you like racing games, all this is well worth it IMO. I was worried i wouldn't use my setup enough to get my moneys worth out of it, but that definitely wasn't an issue :)

      • Thanks - pretty much confirmed what I was thinking!

  • I have the heard the pc version is much better than the Xbox version - does anyone here have this ultimate version on the Xbox? I am tossing up whether to get this or not

  • So downloaded, and gave it a try. Not bad at all but wow - hats off to anyone who is good at driving a car on this with a standard controller. Have to be very accurate with braking & accelerating. My first run I seemed to spend most of my time off the track and in the sand. Reduced the difficulty, changed from the default Ferrari to something a little less insane ie an MX5, and Silverstone rather than Barcelona - and that was frankly more fun. I managed to make my way from last on the grid to second, and was making ground on first…… until I was punted off the track by one of the maniac AI cars. I then stopped trying - will wait until I get a proper wheel. This is definitely more simulator than game, and needs a decent wheel/pedal set.

  • Sweet. Thanks. Picked up a copy of the ultimate edition for when I finally get that wheel.
